The Bodyguard King’s CEO Wife
Chapter 765: 765: Night Talk
Chapter 765: Chapter 765: Night Talk
Ridiculous, utterly absurd. How could a relationship between two people be torn apart just because they are said to have ‘incompatible fates’? How could their love simply vanish with one sentence?
The blade in her hand had already made a cut on the woman’s neck; although it was merely a thin trickle of blood, it looked terrifying. If the cut went any deeper, even a divine being would die, yet the woman showed no panic, her eyes resolute. In contrast, it was Ji Qian, who held the knife, whose gaze was flitting uneasily.
“You won’t kill me, and from the moment you drew your knife, you already believed my words.”
“I did not,” Ji Qian shook her head, “I don’t believe the words of a charlatan.” Ji Qian put away the blade, her hand shaking uncontrollably.
“Ah, perhaps this is his destiny too. Fortunately, his great calamity has yet to come, and I think he has plenty of time to prepare.” The woman smiled at Ji Qian and said, “Whether you believe it today or not is up to you. Think it over before you decide.”
“Get out…” Ji Qian suddenly turned around and roared darkly, her outburst startling the serene night. Her face reddened, a symptom of rage overwhelming her. Indeed, she could no longer bear it, as the woman’s words pierced her heart like sharp awls.
“Hehe, right, he still needs to stay with me for a few more days, but rest assured, he won’t come to any harm.” The woman smiled faintly, “Also, there’s no need for you to stay here. There are many things outside that need your attention, aren’t there?”
After saying this, the woman lightly tapped her toes and disappeared into the night, leaving Ji Qian alone in the cold wind. Even though the woman had left long ago, Ji Qian still sat there numbly, obviously deeply affected by today’s conversation.
…………………………………
“So this is your treatment method, huh?” Ye Shikai swung the axe in his hand, forcefully splitting the firewood on the ground. Abandoning the “slap in the face” wake-up method, this “demoness” had dragged him out of bed straight to this place first thing in the morning.
“Exactly, now that your Inner Strength is sealed, you must first restore your physical fitness.” The woman was sitting nonchalantly on a haystack nearby, laughing heartlessly.
“Then unseal my Inner Strength,” complained Ye Shikai.
“No, this is also part of the treatment process,” the woman nodded slightly and said indifferently, “Or do you want the love worm to mature?”
“Then… let’s forget about it, I will listen to you,” Ye Shikai said, and with a swing, he split another piece of wood in half.
“Hmph, demoness, I will chop you instead,” Ye Shikai grunted, imagining the woman in every piece of wood, which motivated him to keep chopping.
But then again, under the woman’s “treatment,” the love worm indeed was suppressed, and he did not experience severe pain last night, allowing Ye Shikai a good night’s sleep.
“Don’t you have a thousand disciples? Why make me chop firewood?” Ye Shikai looked around; the wood piled up like a small mountain—it surely wasn’t a one-person job.
“Haha, I’ve given the fifty disciples who chop wood a week off. All these are your tasks now, haha.”
“What, fifty, and for a whole week?” Ye Shikai yelled out, feeling this was nothing short of exploiting labor, no, it was mistreating a patient.
“Aren’t you supposed to pay for your treatment?” the woman spoke coldly, giving him a disdainful glance, “Three hours. I want to see all the firewood neatly stacked.”
“You…” Ye Shikai sighed, really like a tiger fallen to the plains and bullied by a dog.
“Haha, this is part of the treatment too, just endure it,” the woman nonchalantly played with a willow twig.
“Come on, aren’t you curious about who put the love worm on you? You know, the Single Love Poisonous Insects always come in pairs, which means the other party has one too.” The woman propped her chin with both hands, her cold beautiful face slightly adorable.
“Not curious,” Ye Shikai stopped his hands momentarily, then spoke indifferently.
“Why is that?”
“There’s no particular reason, I just don’t want to know,” Ye Shikai shook his head and sighed.
“I really don’t get it, you, who detest evil, show no interest in the one who inflicted this upon you.” The woman’s lips curled into a smile; Ye Shikai really disliked this expression of hers. This woman had too many tricks up her sleeve.
“Sometimes, that’s just how people are, inexplicably hurt without knowing why, but once they know, the harm could be even greater. So, they choose to play dumb, so dumb that even if they clearly understand everything, they pretend to know nothing.”
“It seems you already have a guess about who it is,” the woman changed her posture and said lightly.
“Knowing or not, what has happened has happened. I just don’t want anyone else to get hurt because of it.”
“You’re just like how Dugu described you, keeping all your pain buried within, never wanting to show your edge, especially… to those close to you.”
“There aren’t many around me, I treasure each one I have,” Ye Shikai let out a resigned smile.
“No wonder you’re fated to stir romantic troubles; you think you’re protecting those around you, but in reality, you’re only delaying and worsening the situation.”
“Think whatever you like, I’m doing what I think is right.” Ye Shikai didn’t argue further; who could clearly articulate matters of the heart?
“Forget it, I won’t bother with you anymore.” The woman huffed coldly and left the woodshed straightaway, Ye Shikai didn’t bother about her, just went back to his wood chopping.
……………………………………
“Lord Moon God, what do you need from me?” At the outskirts of the Worm Sect, Ghost, reputedly the steward of the Netherworld Palace, received Ji Qian’s message to wait in the tent. Although he knew about Ji Qian and Ye Shikai’s relationship, what mattered most was that Ji Qian, as a woman, excelled him in both management and strength. Thus, in Ye Shikai’s absence, Ghost obeyed Ji Qian’s commands.
“Pack your things, we’re preparing to leave,” Ji Qian sighed lightly and spoke.
“What? Aren’t we waiting for the Boss?” Ghost was surprised; Ji Qian had adamantly wanted to stay just the night before, but now she was choosing to leave of her own accord.
“You take a few Hidden Guards to wait for him to come out; I’ll take some people back first,” Ji Qian nodded, “No more questions, just follow the orders.”
“Alright then, I’ll go and instruct the men now,” Ghost was puzzled, but seeing the situation, even a fool could guess a bit of what was happening.
