bBut /bit had only been a little over two weeks since Lily moved into the Luke family estate, and already, the clothes Nancy and the others bhad /bgifted herpletely filled the spacious walk–in closet. Shoes and bags piled up in babundance/b.
She had so many things bthat /beven with Grace, Nancy, and the vi’s maids helping her pack, it nearly three hours to get everything organized. By the end of it, Lily was so exhausted she didn’t even want to move her pinky.
Dragging her tired body into the shower, bshe /bfinally copsed onto the luxurious, delicately decorated pink princess bed–and quickly drifted into a deep sleep.
Maybe it was the warmth and beauty of the room, but her dreams that night were unusually sweet.
Clutching the soft silk quilt, she finally felt a sense of belonging.
From now on, bshe /bwasn’t James‘ wife; she was Nancy’s daughter.
She really had a mom again. No matter how old you were, having a mother made everything feelplete, made life feel full of happiness.
When James returned from nc’s study to his bedroom, Lily had already moved all her belongings out. He didn’t own many clothes; after Lily moved in, he had only used the double–door section of the wardrobe in the walk–in closet. The rest of the space had been hers.
Now, when he went in to grab his pajamas, the brows /bband /brows of her clothes were all gone.
The clear shoe cab stoodpletely empty.
The bags Nancy and Grace had given her–bgone /btoo.
Looking at the empty closet, James felt like something inside him had gone hollow.
He hated this feeling of emotions slipping out of his control. After grabbing his pajamas, he quickly headed to the bathroom to shower.
On the bathroom counter, only his toothbrush cup and men’s toiletries remained.
Before she bmoved /bin, this bwas /ball the space ever held.
But after getting bused /bto seeing soft pinks and fresh greens among the ck and gray, the sudden absence of any warmth left bhis /bchest strangely heavy.
After showering, as he passed by the big bed, his eyes instinctively swept across it–wondering if she had kicked the nket off again so he could help cover her up.
The bed was empay.
He kept forgetting–she had moved next door into the princess room.
That’s right. She was no longer the wife the family had forced onto him. Even if their divorce papers weren’t finalized yet, they had all epted that he was bnow /bjust her brother.

He couldn’t have any inappropriate thoughts about her. All he could do was protect her happiness, and. wish her and the man she loved a lifetime of joy.
bAnd /bhonestly, maybe that was for the best.
He and Lily had never been meant to bcross /bthat line.
By all logic, now bthat /bshe had bmoved /bout, he should’ve slept in his big bedroom again.
bBut /bfor some reason, he didn’t. Out of habit, he ended up in the study instead.
Lying in bed, staring at the cold white ceiling, his mind kept shing with images–Lily’s radiant smile, then Le’s bugly/b–ver–endearing face.
must be losing it. He thought.
His heart felt like it had been split in two, half for Le, half for Lily.
One minute he missed Lily, the next he was nearly going mad longing for Le. The aching need and yearning overwhelmed him–nearly driving him insane.
Gripping his phone tightly, he tried to force himself not to bthink/b.
But when he nced down, he realized that at some point, he bhad /bactually sent Le a message.
Just two words.
“Lilise.”
They had agreed not to contact each other again. He shouldn’t bhave /bmessaged her.
His first instinct was to recall the message–but strangely, he also wanted a reply.
In the midst of that tug–of–war, the recall window bpassed/b.
He checked his phone every few seconds, desperate–pathetically so–to see more lines appear in the bchat /b
window.
But the whole night passed without a single bword/b.
The message “Lille remained alone on the screen.
After such sweet dreams, Lily woke up the next morning feeling especially refreshed.
She instinctively reached for her phone on bthe /bnightstand, intending to scroll through some news. But to her surprise, she saw a message from James.
Just her
“Lillse”
Her heart skipped wildly.
She bhadn’t /bexpected him to reach out–not after they’d agreed to bgo /btheir separate wa

After a brief moment of thought, she decided to hit him with the harshest blow–to make sure he’d let go-pletely.
