Chapter 218 - 218 218 Little Calculations_1
Chapter 218: Chapter 218: Little Calculations_1 Chapter 218: Chapter 218: Little Calculations_1 Chen Momo was almost taken aback when she saw the elderly Bo being so amiable.
“Grandpa, I knew you were hospitalized due to a relapse of your illness. However, I was still nursing my own injuries, so I didn’t visit you at the hospital, to avoid causing you any trouble,” she said, looking innocent and understanding, “But now that I heard you’re discharged, I thought I’d come by and visit.”
While speaking, she took out the gift she had prepared for the elderly Bo, “This is a token of my gratitude, I hope you won’t find it ungrateful.”
“Your kind thoughts are truly appreciated!” The old man asked Zhang Bo to accept the gift and asked out of concern, “How’s your own recovery going?”
Despite his earlier doubts that Chen Momo was not as simple as she appeared, he could not erase the fact that she saved his life.
He had already separated Xia Qingtian and Chen Momo, so he wasn’t worried that she would do any harm to Qingtian anymore.
Thus, he resumed his amicable attitude towards Chen Momo.
Momo immediately responded, “I’ve been to the hospital for a check-up. Thanks to the nurse and housekeeper you assigned to me, Grandpa. They took such good care of me that the doctor said I’m almost fully recovered. I should be able to walk normally in a few days.”
“That’s great news!” The elderly Bo nodded in relief.
Once a guest, always a guest. He insisted that Momo stay for a meal at the old house.
Momo was gently and well behaved throughout.
If Qingtian hadn’t known Momo’s true nature, she might have been fooled by her.
No matter what, as long as Momo stayed out of trouble and didn’t hurt the elderly Bo, Qingtian was willing to bury the hatchet, for the time being.
After the meal, Momo prepared to leave.
However, just before leaving, something seemed to occur to her. She flashed a bright smile at Xia Qingtian.
“Qingtian, in exactly a week, it’ll be our high school teacher’s 50th birthday. The class president contacted me yesterday, asking me to join them in celebrating his birthday.”
“I told him you were back from overseas, and they asked if I could bring you along.”
“Our teacher was so good to us, dedicating himself to our education. Plus, he was especially proud of you as a student. I heard that he still mentions you in his classes. I bet he’d be thrilled to have you there.”
Something flickered in Xia Qingtian’s expression.
However, she didn’t immediately agree. She had a hunch that Chen Momo’s proposal bore no good intentions.
She didn’t know what game Momo was playing this time.
Seeing Qingtian hesitate made Momo anxious.
She then addressed Bo Jingyan and the elderly Bo. “Grandpa, Jingyan, could you help me convince her? Everyone really misses Qingtian. She was really popular when we were in school.”
Jingyan answered indifferently, “This is Qingtian’s personal matter. It’s up to her.”
If she wants to go, she can go. If she doesn’t want to, no one can force her.
But the elderly Bo, recalling how Qingtian had been keeping him company in the hospital during that period and often looking bored when alone, felt that it would be good for her to reconnect with her old friends and classmates.
So he said to Qingtian, “It’s a rare opportunity, Qingtian. Just go out and enjoy a day.”
Qingtian hesitated for a moment, then agreed.
“Alright.”
She didn’t want to worry the elderly Bo.
Besides, she was curious about what Momo was up to.
The more she schemed, the more mistakes were bound to surface, and Qingtian might one day uncover the secret Momo and Shen Yaxuan were hiding.
“Alright, let’s consider it settled then!” A hint of excitement flashed in Chen Momo’s eyes.
Great, she was truly worried that Qingtian would reject her invitation outright.
Fortunately, the old man stepped in to help her.
Qingtian noted Momo’s reaction and was even more certain that the teacher’s birthday party was a trap.
…
Time flew, and the teacher’s birthday came around soon enough.
Jingyan asked about the party’s location and then drove her there before heading to the office himself.
Before leaving, he told her to call him when the party was over and he would come pick her up.
Qingtian agreed, feeling a sweet sensation in her heart.
She stood by, watching Jingyan drive away before she entered the hotel.
At least Momo wasn’t wrong about one thing: back in school, Qingtian was popular and a top-grade student, greatly admired by the teacher.
Her arrival was warmly welcomed by everyone.
Qingtian was also quite excited to see her old classmates and teacher.
At lunchtime, after the students had all toasted the teacher, they started to chat and drink among themselves.
Pregnant and always hungry, Qingtian didn’t join them, but stayed at her place and ate her food. Suddenly…
“Qingtian, it’s been a long time. You look even more beautiful than you did in school.” A strange voice said.
Qingtian looked up to see a female classmate from school.
Back in school, their relationship was lukewarm at best, nearly non-existent.
“What’s the matter?” She raised an eyebrow and asked, her tone slightly cold.
The female classmate noticed Qingtian’s indifference and was a little upset.
However, thinking of her purpose, she didn’t leave. Instead, she managed to keep up her smile and say, “It’s been years since we met. Why don’t we catch up?”
As she spoke, she confidently seated herself next to Qingtian.
Qingtian did not ask her to leave.
After settling down, the woman said, “Qingtian, I heard that you used to work for the Gu Family. My company is currently looking to collaborate on a project with the Gu Family, do you think you could help us out?”
Qingtian swallowed the food in her mouth.
“Sorry, I quit some time ago.”
The woman seemed disappointed, but she quickly bounced back and said, “No problem. Even if you can’t help, I’d still like to toast to you.”
As she spoke, she poured a drink for Qingtian.
Fearing that Qingtian wouldn’t drink, she made a point of saying, “Don’t worry, I’ve checked, the drink doesn’t contain any alcohol. You can drink it.”
Qingtian gave her an ambiguous smile.
“No thanks, I don’t like drinks.”
But the woman persisted, continuing to press her, “Qingtian, you’re not looking down on me and refusing to drink with me, are you?”
“If you really consider me a classmate, give me some face and have a drink.”
Then she shoved the drink into Qingtian’s hand, acting as if not drinking would be an affront to her dignity.
Qingtian suppressed her emotions and feigned helplessness.
“Fine, but I can only take a sip.”
Upon hearing this, the woman glanced at Momo unconsciously.
Momo gave an almost imperceptible nod, after which she immediately agreed, “That’s okay, your situation is special. A sip is fine.”
Qingtian didn’t miss the interaction between the two, but she pretended she didn’t notice. She picked up the glass and took a sip, then quickly wiped her mouth with a napkin.
A little while later, she suddenly held her head, “What’s going on? Why is my head feeling so dizzy?”
After saying that, she collapsed on the table.
