The CEO's Substitute Ex-Wife
Chapter 356: Apologies and Explanations
CHAPTER 356: APOLOGIES AND EXPLANATIONS
"I’m so sorry about my sister. She’s too young and naive and has been spoiled by the family. Please don’t take it to heart if she offended you in any way," Du Di said. His voice was incredibly pleasant to listen to.
Wen Nuan’s eyebrows furrowed slightly. *His sister?*
"Du Yueying is your sister?"
"Yes."
The corner of Wen Nuan’s mouth lifted. "You two are... nothing alike."
Du Di laughed softly. He didn’t say much about Du Yueying, but he did ask about Wen Nuan’s eye and offered to pay her medical bills. Wen Nuan smiled and said, "Mr. Du, you really don’t have to. You’re making me feel awkward. Ye Feimo also acted on impulse and injured Miss Du. She’s more seriously hurt than I am, so let’s just let this go. Also, Mr. Du, please tell Miss Du that if she really likes that qipao, I’ll have someone send it back to her. It’s just a dress. There’s no need to hurt the relationship between our two families."
Wen Nuan felt very awkward about how polite and graceful Du Di was. No one would object to or make things difficult for such a gentleman. Given Du Yueying’s temper, she wouldn’t have called to apologize. The fact that the Du family wasn’t pursuing this matter was most likely thanks to Du Di. Wen Nuan was so grateful to him that she didn’t want to make things difficult for him. If that qipao could calm Du Yueying’s anger, she wouldn’t mind giving it up.
"Wen Nuan, don’t say that. The qipao... you don’t have to send it over. It looks great on you. A dress is just a small thing. Yueying has been spoiled since she was a child and always has to get what she wants. It was just a temporary tantrum. I can get her another qipao in a few days. Besides, with her temper, she definitely wouldn’t want that dress anymore, so don’t go to the trouble," Du Di’s voice was calm and carried a hint of a smile. It was very comforting and didn’t make Wen Nuan feel cold or distant. She actually enjoyed his tone.
"Okay," Wen Nuan said, no longer insisting. "I’m really grateful that the Du family isn’t suing Ye Feimo. Thank you."
"You’re welcome. Yueying deserved to learn a lesson," Du Di said with a laugh. He then asked, "Wen Nuan, you..."
"Nuan, I’m going to work. Remember to come to the company early," Ye Feimo said, knocking on the door.
Wen Nuan covered the phone. "I know. I’ll be there in a bit. You go to work first."
Ye Feimo looked at her and then left. Wen Nuan continued, "Mr. Du, what were you going to say?"
Du Di seemed to be silent for a moment before his calm voice sounded again. "It’s nothing. Well, I really like your movie. Your TV show is also very good. I’m currently watching it."
Wen Nuan thought, *Du Di watches movies and TV shows?* She raised her eyebrows in confusion. In her mind, Du Di was a man who didn’t care about worldly things. How could he do something so normal?
In her impression, Du Di was a man who ate Western food, listened to operas, and went to concerts.
"Thank you," Wen Nuan said sincerely. *So, does that mean he’s a fan of mine?* Du Di didn’t say much more to Wen Nuan, asking a few more questions before hanging up.
Wen Nuan threw her phone down and went to eat her pizza. She felt much more energetic. Du Di was a true gentleman. He and his sister were nothing alike. Just listening to him speak made her feel comfortable.
Du Di put down his phone and played with a jewelry box in his hand. He had originally planned to give it to her. He frowned slightly. He had heard Ye Feimo’s voice on the phone. The woman already had a man. She didn’t need another admirer.
He opened the jewelry box. It was a butterfly necklace. He had seen it in a jewelry store the other day and thought it would suit her, so he bought it. He pulled open a drawer in his study and put the jewelry box inside.
There was a knock on the door. Jingnan came in. Du Di’s face turned cold. "Is Miss throwing a tantrum again?"
"Master, the old master called your father and mother and said he must pursue this matter. What do you think?" Jingnan said, looking at Du Di with difficulty. This matter had already been settled. No one wanted to cause any more trouble.
Du Di got up and went to see the old master. As soon as he entered, he heard the old master on the phone, scolding his father. He had already talked to his parents about this and had clearly analyzed the pros and cons. The old master and his wife didn’t want to pursue this matter. The old master spoiled his granddaughter and insisted on pursuing it.
"Grandpa!" Du Di called out. The old master hung up the phone and glared at Du Di. "How can you be Yueying’s brother? She was beaten like this, and you’re not even asking about it? Do you think that’s right? My granddaughter was beaten and sent to the hospital in A City. How can I possibly get over this?"
Du Di’s smile didn’t reach his eyes. "Grandpa, I said that this matter is over. I don’t want anyone to cause any more trouble."
"How dare you! Is that how you talk to your grandpa?" The old master hit his cane on the ground.
Du Di’s expression was extremely cold, but a hint of a smile lingered on his lips. The smile made people feel a chill. He was clearly a gentle and refined man, but when he showed that expression, it was frightening. Even after decades of living through ups and downs, the old man felt a sense of terror.
"Grandpa, Yueying has been so willful for twenty years because of you. If you didn’t spoil her, she wouldn’t have caused trouble today. You should be happy that Ye Feimo is not pursuing this matter. This is already a blessing. Don’t think that the Du family can do whatever they want in A City. Grandpa, your time has passed. This is just a small matter. There’s no need for both sides to get hurt," Du Di said calmly, his voice as cold as ice.
"You’re overestimating the Ye family. Just with Anning International and Longmen, you’re already scared of them?" The old master was furious and couldn’t help but mock him. "When did you become so timid?"
Du Di’s eyes became displeased, but he forced it down. The person in front of him was his grandfather, just an old man who loved his granddaughter. He had always been a dutiful son and didn’t want to argue with his grandfather. "Grandpa, A City is the Ye family’s territory. We don’t need to provoke them. The Ye, Tang, and Lin families are not easy to deal with. Plus, Longmen... If it were just the Ye family and Longmen, we wouldn’t need to be afraid. But you forgot that the Ye family has another terrifying power. We don’t need to go head-to-head with them. Besides, it’s not worth it to fight over Yueying’s actions. I’m not going to make that kind of deal."
"What’s not worth it? Is that what a brother should say? She’s your sister." The old master was enraged and was very unhappy with Du Di’s cold tone. His family was being bullied, and not only was he not getting justice, but he was also treating it like a business deal.
