CHAPTER 607: CHAPTER 605: BUNKER

The superpower users, who had previously lacked confidence, were now full of it.

Having received the update, Jianxiong stood up and walked to the main door, using both hands imbued with his superpower to slowly swing open the rusty iron door.

The arched iron doors unfolded from both sides. Contrary to Su Mo’s expectation of a pitch-black tunnel, surprisingly, blue wall lamps embedded in the arched walls lit up upon opening the door.

The path led straight underground, and the walls by the entrance only had clean bloodstains, with no zombies visible in everyone’s sight for the time being.

Lu Chen and Su Mo led the way at the front, while Jianxong closed the heavy door behind them as he followed.

Under the dim lighting, the air carried a heavy and muddy scent.

"The air circulation isn’t very good here."

Su Mo sneezed and said, "It’s probably because the ventilation system hasn’t been used in a long time. We need to make a trip to the main control room."

Jianxiong surveyed the bare walls on both sides, which bore nothing but bloodstains. "We haven’t got a clear understanding of this bunker’s layout."

The spiritual superpower user said, "There is another door below; all the zombies on this floor are behind it. I can detect many Level 3 zombies among them."

At the end of the corridor was a door assembled mechanically that needed to be opened manually from both sides.

Lu Chen asked, "About how many are at the door?"

"Roughly around 100, no high-level ones detected so far."

Lu Chen gave Jianxiong a meaningful look. This door, obviously heavier than the previous, was approached by Lu Chen who hardened his entire body with his superpower. He grew taller and moved forward, together with another power superpower user, they slowly opened the door, one on each side.

Su Mo quickly said while the door was still not fully open, "Only leave space for one person to get through, keep Li He protected behind us."

Soon, that heavy iron door was opened, allowing only one person to pass through at a time, and a zombie immediately rushed out.

It was just a simple Level 2 zombie. Lu Chen, standing aside, directly threw his Ice Blade and chopped off the zombie’s head.

As soon as the door was cracked open, Jianxiong immediately retreated, his fist sprouting bone spurs, which he smashed into the faces of the zombies squeezing through the gap continuously.

The zombies crowding at the door pushed the heavy iron door further open in their frenzy.

Li He, protected at the very back, watched the battle nervously. He was ready with his superpower at all times; however, they all had protective shields, so no one had been injured yet.

The combat was easy but did not last long; suddenly, from the large iron door, a humanoid monster whose upper body had completely morphed into an insect burst forth.

It appeared as though it had combined with some unknown type of insect.

Its body had entirely integrated with an insect’s, its spine growing to an incredible length. The upper body resembled a centipede with many insect-like legs, and similar to a mantis, scythe-like wings protruded from its back.

Unable to hold back, someone yelled, "What the hell is that thing!"

Such a zombie was unheard of, and even the spiritual superpower user, after double-checking, said in panic, "This is a Level 3 Zombie! Why does it look so different?"

Luohe city’s zombies seemed to be all mutations combining insects and humans.

This realization made Su Mo’s heart sink, and she rushed toward the freakish zombie, wielding her Tang Blade, as it slammed its insect wings against a superpower user’s protective shield.

Its body, long and full of legs like a centipede, easily blocked her attack with its sharp claws, even the Ice Blades thrown by Lu Chen were intercepted by its legs.

It also made a strange noise from its mouth, much like a piercing sound wave.

Lu Chen realized something and instantly used his special move, "Cold Ice Barbs," which burst from the ground and pinned it in place while ice crystals converged and stabbed into its body.

Although the hybrid’s mutation was strange, the huge level difference instantly turned its head into a hornet’s nest.

Of course, this was just the beginning.

After the bizarrely shaped zombie died, more identical roars came from the dark gap of the now-open door.

It had summoned all its comrades.

Su Mo and Lu Chen exchanged a glance and immediately blocked the main entrance.

"Why are there so many insect hybrids under this bunker, have we poked a nest of insects?"

Lu Chen, conjuring an Ice Giant Sword, coldly said, "Probably got in through the pipes and infected humans, the first group hidden below likely died this way."

Just as the two had finished speaking, seven or eight bizarrely shaped insect hybrids squeezed out of the door gap, their upper bodies like centipedes, causing many to feel a wave of disgust.

Although they were sustained by the time from their protective shields, the impact of the crustacean abdomens against the barrier only caused a wave of nausea, but fortunately, the soldiers were well-trained. They furiously attacked with their superpowers, drinking Jasmine Tea to replenish as soon as they were depleted, their combat effectiveness growing exponentially.

In no time, these Level 3 Zombies were repeatedly forced back, their centipede-like bodies cleaved in two, leaving a pile of disgusting corpses scattered about.

It wasn’t until no more zombies rushed out that they all finally collapsed on the ground, gasping for breath.

The first round of battle ended temporarily, but it was far from over. After a brief rest, Su Mo went to stand beside the pitch-black door, checking the situation inside the seam.

With her night-vision enabled eyes, inside was a massive warehouse with hundreds of boxes stacked in the middle, arranged area by area.

"For now, I don’t see any signs of zombie activity, they might still be deeper inside, I must say it’s really big in here," she said.

Su Mo stepped back two steps, Lu Chen shone a flashlight inside for a look and then walked in, "I’m going to check it out."

Following closely behind him, she circled her gaze and noticed a switch embedded in the wall. She went over and tried to pull hard. Instantly, the interior of the warehouse flickered and, within a few seconds, one light after another lit up;

Looking at the lights overhead, Su Mo narrowed her eyes to adapt for a moment before saying, "It looks like there’s a separate generator here, that’s good news."

"Not bad," Lu Chen walked to the covered wooden boxes, draped under thick ash, and he lifted the entire canvas, raising a cloud of dust.

Su Mo turned around and walked over, "What is this? Open it and have a look."

Lu Chen opened a wooden box and inside was just a pile of sand. He directly tipped the entire box onto the ground and beneath the yellow sand were all the bodies of dead insects.
