The Chef Rules the Last Days
Chapter 610 - 608: Insect Eggs
CHAPTER 610: CHAPTER 608: INSECT EGGS
Lu Chen nodded, "It’s a bit thorny."
They had naturally come to take down the bunker, but now, even Su Mo didn’t know how to begin.
She stepped back a few paces, and Lu Chen directly grabbed a bucket of oil and splashed it inside, followed by a Fire Ability User.
He said coldly, "Light it up."
Instantly, raging flames surged through the edge of the door and into the interior.
The heart-like Insect Nest was ignited in an instant, and the densely packed insects covering its surface poured out in droves.
They tore through the membrane, and all the tadpole-like crawling creatures made a beeline for the door.
In the midst of the fiery blaze, Lu Chen slammed the door shut, and eerie screams echoed from within.
The two of them backed off a few steps as thick smoke rolled out from the crevices of the door
The pungent odor made them sneeze several times in a row.
"How did this Insect Nest end up here?" Li He peeked out from behind Jianxiong and asked.
Lu Chen said coldly, "The queen is still alive."
"But we just burned all its offspring, isn’t it going to seek revenge?"
You have to admit, Jianxiong’s guess was unsettlingly accurate.
Rapid crawling sounds came from the ventilation ducts above their heads.
Those ducts were lined with a series of marks.
The accompanying superpower users took up their guns and began firing into the ventilation ducts.
Unfortunately, the creature was too fast, and they hardly hit it, only leaving many bullet hole marks.
On some large wooden tables used for serving food, the ventilation duct on top completely broke, and a humanoid creature dropped from above unto it.
It was a zombie, yet not quite a zombie.
Instead of a head on its neck, there were countless flesh-colored tentacles sprouting from where the head should be.
The tips of these tentacles were shaped like blooming flowers, covered in sharp teeth.
Its arms were grotesquely twisted backwards, and its legs had long lost their human form, resembling the hind paws of a wild wolf. The skin was stretched, the flesh peeled, and the veins burst open.
"What kind of monster is this? A combination of a zombie, wolf, and tentacle creature?"
Jianxiong, protecting Li He, retreated continuously, his eyes wide with shock.
Even Su Mo couldn’t help but say, "I’m starting to suspect that beneath this bunker is actually a large experimental site. There are just too many of these insect-combined mutant zombies."
And the one before them was completely different from the others and even posed a threat that Su Mo could sense.
The monster didn’t attack immediately but instead stood on the platform, its neck tentacles seeming to sense something.
It pivoted its stance towards the Insect Nest, and its mournfully dancing tentacles drooped.
Su Mo and the others wouldn’t miss such an opportunity, and all their bullets and superpowers slammed into its body.
The bizarrely shaped zombie vanished on the spot.
"What!" someone exclaimed in shock, "It’s a Space superpower too—this is bad, we can’t detect its position anymore."
"Where did it go?"
Lu Chen, standing beside Su Mo, moved closer to the main troop and said apprehensively, "Stay close together."
The creature’s Level was so high that spiritual superpower users couldn’t detect its exact location at all.
In the vast cafeteria, aside from the miserable howls coming from the kitchen, there were no other sounds to be heard.
Not far from them, tables and chairs that had been neatly arranged and covered with thick dust were suddenly scattered by a swiftly moving figure.
This realization made Su Mo aware once more that it possessed a dual ability.
"What on earth have these monsters experienced down here!"
She employed her superpower in her eyes, hoping to catch a glimpse of the creature’s shadow, but even with her space superpower, she couldn’t pinpoint its location.
The only thing she could sense was that it was getting closer to them.
In the stuffy cafeteria, gusts of wind blew sporadically.
Among them, a superpower user standing on the outside was the first to suffer an attack.
Five or six tentacles with sharp teeth at the tips and fleshy flaps that flowered out struck the Pumpkin Protection Shield with such force that it sent vibrations through the shield.
Su Mo, acting on instinct, swung her sword but hit nothing but air.
Lu Chen took a few steps forward on his own, "I’ll chase it."
His superpower was on par with it, and at that moment, he fully utilized his spatial rift ability.
To everyone’s eyes, Lu Chen would appear intermittently, only to disappear again suddenly.
Su Mo’s ears twitched, and she activated her eye ability once more.
Finally, she caught sight of a fleeting figure before her.
When the tentacles struck another superpower user’s protection shield, Su Mo made her move.
She gathered her superpower, her eyes not daring to relax for a moment, and together with Lu Chen, they caught up to the creature’s trail.
The two of them worked in tandem, trapping it in a corner.
The flailing tentacles couldn’t get the better of them, and the wolf-like claws that landed on the protection shield in front of Su Mo shook it with such force that the shield trembled.
Su Mo wasn’t about to let this opportunity slip. The vines in her hands shot out instantly, binding the bizarre zombie’s legs and firmly restraining its entire body before her.
Seizing the moment, Jianxiong, whose protection shield was already at its limit, rushed forward, striking the zombie’s stomach. The spatial strangulation emitted by the zombie at that instant created extensive wounds on Jianxiong’s arm.
Seeing this, Li He quickly gathered a ball of light in his hands and pressed it onto Jianxiong. Bright white light flared, and the wounds rapidly healed.
Lu Chen’s Ice Seal came into play at that moment. He froze all those whipping tentacles and with his Ice Blade, sliced off the suspended tentacles and completely severed the neck.
A stream of dark blood spilled out, landing on the ground with numerous tiny black particles in it.
Thanks to the protection shield, everyone circled the corpse unscathed. Lu Chen squatted in front of it, eyeing those particles on the ground, and said, "Burn it all, these are all insect eggs."
Recalling the sight in the kitchen, a fire ability user immediately stepped forward and incinerated the corpse completely with a burst of fire.
Scattered around the large cafeteria, everyone went to check different areas. Su Mo climbed onto a wooden platform, gazing at the broken ventilation duct. Her pupils dilated, and she swallowed down the nausea, calling Lu Chen over.
"Take a look, it’s full of eggs inside."
Lu Chen stepped onto the platform, his expression grim, "This is troubling."
"Exactly, burning these ventilation ducts with gasoline won’t do, unless we all want to suffocate here. But without fire, how are we going to clean these out? If we allow these things to develop here, by the time we bring people back, who knows what kind of monster might have grown."
