The Dark Rebirth of Pandora: Revenge of the Abyss
Chapter 77: Basic Alchemy
CHAPTER 77: BASIC ALCHEMY
I don’t know how long Lionel is gonna last, but it doesn’t matter, I had a good night’s sleep, today is the class on alchemy, the saint is also a professor of alchemy and will teach these two things.
Her first class was pretty lame, but it was just to select students who could participate in a special class on sacred magic, normally the saint will teach theology and alchemy.
Now I’m in the classroom while Celeste came to talk to me, it seems that for most people I’ve become more sociable even though I’m acting just like the Kaelith from the past.
So people’s view of me has changed after what I did to save them, how ironic, as soon as something that evolves me in a negative way happens, fear will easily come back, humans can be so hypocritical.
Soon Hana arrives and says something that surprises me.
"Pandora, did you know that the equivalent of the mind is a response?"
I freeze completely, something in my Instincts screams for me to stay silent, I can’t answer this in any way, I don’t know what this question is but answering it will be bad, very bad.
I stare at her in silence for almost 4 minutes.
"Tsk...sorry to bother you," She soon leaves and I breathe calmly, she seems annoyed and mutters something I didn’t hear.
’Was that a skill?’ Just like that snake, to a certain extent I’m sensitive to the use of magic and skills near me, of course that snake had a greater sensitivity but mine is not bad.
’What was she trying to do?’ She clearly tried to use something on me, it would probably be activated if I answered.
"Any problem, Pandora?" Celeste asks, completely oblivious to the strange situation.
"No...hey Celeste, that heroine, has she had strange interactions with other students and something happened to them or they acted weird?"A hypothesis comes to my mind.
"Hana...I think so, sometimes certain students acted strangely after talking to her," She thinks a bit and responds.
"Strange how?" I ask.
"Kind of hard to explain, they seemed a bit out of it? Like they weren’t focused, even standing still seemed wrong with slight irregular movements from side to side," she responds with a thoughtful expression.
"Anything else?" My hypothesis is slowly being confirmed.
"Well, I think so, I don’t know much about it, all I know is that Hana became very famous in other classes and there are many students who like her."
"..."
"Celeste, have you ever received a strange question from Hana and answered?"
"Yes, I received one, but I didn’t answer, I remained silent, I can’t say more, but something seemed kind of... strange, like I can’t explain it, it just gave me a bad feeling."
"Okay, thanks for helping, and better go back to your seat, Professor Rosaline will be here soon."
I’m extremely angry and don’t want Celeste to realize how much the anger is spreading through my mind.
My fingers digging into the table.
"What’s that grinding sound?" Riko next to me asks, while my teeth are clenching tightly together, making a loud metal-like sound.
’THAT BITCH’ I know the descriptions well, Elena taught me how to identify mind control magic, Elena said she also had a skill that did that, so she showed it in practice and talked a lot about it.
She showed the effect on some maids and even asked permission to demonstrate on me, and when she used it I felt a bad feeling.
And among all she said, the most important things are the "symptoms" demonstrated by someone who has fallen under mind control, considering Hana’s level difference from me, the fact that I feel threatened means that that ability ignored my status.
’Hana has a unique skill based on mind control or mental control’ It’s probably mind control, the difference between mind control and mental control is that mind control skills work through conversation.
Usually specific speeches or magic-imbued conversations with elements that affect the mind.
This damn woman without a doubt tried to use it on me, but failed because my instincts didn’t let me say anything, in this case I wouldn’t need to give a specific answer, just the act of answering would be the condition for activation.
And she apparently already tried to use it on Celeste, but that’s where the difference in status comes in, although we can’t block it because it apparently ignores status, we can still feel something wrong because of the level difference.
And from what Celeste said, it probably has a very long-lasting or even permanent effect.
’There must be some restriction, maybe single uses, or not being able to use on the same target, maybe some price for her body’ Every skill has its restriction and this doesn’t change for unique skills.
The real problem is that she has such a powerful ability, and she seems to know how to use it very well, she’s already used it on several students from other classes, and maybe even on other heroes or influential nobles.
’It’s too perfect’ If nobody noticed the mind control then I can say that after it’s active it’s imperceptible.
Hana has just become a huge threat, because she can literally create an army of "zombies" who don’t care about anything other than her orders.
’What a broken-ass skill’ No mind control done by magic is imperceptible, so if even the principal didn’t notice, it shows that unique skills are generally much stronger compared to normal magic.
’Why does a damn psychopathic sociopath like her have something like that?’ Life is so unfair, when I was summoned I had nothing, and now this damn sociopath has this ability.
It makes my instincts boil, every day seeing this bunch of weak humans makes me want to kill, but I contain myself, but unlike the past life, containing myself is harder.
’I think I need some killings’ Masturbation won’t help anymore, I need another pleasure besides the pleasure from lust, I need to satisfy my bloodthirsty side, I need to hunt something.
’One of the kingdoms at the edge of the web doesn’t have strong people...I think I’ll go there tonight’ I remember the kingdom’s structure is like a web where other kingdoms serve as a barrier.
’I think if I fly at MACH 3 speed I can get there in 2 hours’ It’s far because it’s the furthest edge, but it’s worth it because there’s no one strong there and by the time help arrives I’ll have already fled.
The plans soon form in my head as the saint arrives to teach the class.
"Students, today I will teach about alchemy, although it may seem similar to magic, they are completely different."
I stop thinking about the plans while paying attention.
"To begin, let’s talk about the alchemy formation process, for everything in alchemy a magic circle is mandatory, nothing can be done without the use of a magic circle."
"The magic circles in alchemy vary depending on what you plan to do, but there are magic circles that can take years to complete, it all depends on how much experience and knowledge the alchemist has."
"Alchemy is widely used to make potions of all kinds or to generate various minerals, in the kingdom alchemy is strictly controlled, and alchemists cannot make minerals without prior permission granted so that this does not cause problems in the economy."
"For the creation of items through alchemy, they must first make the base of the magic circle, usually the base is always a simple pattern, after that they must engrave smaller magic circles on top of the base made earlier like this..." She shows drawing a simple magic circle on the board.
And then drawing other smaller magic circles around and on top of specific points.
I start scratching the same pattern on my table, I want to see if I can use alchemy without any problems.
"This here is an alchemy circle used to create stones," She says as she puts mana into the circle, and a small stone appears.
Nothing visually impressive, but for someone from the modern world, if you think about it, this is simply absurd, where’s the law of mass conservation? She literally created matter.
Mana is not material, it’s more on the spiritual side, so alchemy literally defies the laws of chemistry and physics.
"What is produced in the magic circle depends entirely on your mana, that’s why alchemists usually put a magic circle that stores mana in the alchemy formula, so they can always put mana in until they reach the desired result."
I was able to produce a small stone with the alchemy formula she used, but it wasn’t as easy as she made it seem, it looks like if I don’t know the process behind it, it uses a lot more mana.
That means if I use alchemy I should make my own magic circle instead of using someone else’s.
"In alchemy, talent is important, but effort is indispensable, even if you have talent in alchemy, if you don’t put in the effort, at most you’ll have mediocre results."
"Alchemy is something difficult and complex, theoretically alchemy can literally create anything, but the more complex and powerful what is being created, the more mana it will consume."
"That’s why creating anything remains theoretical, for someone to really be able to create anything, they would need to have an infinite mana reserve, as well as an extremely high mana release rate along with a gigantic comprehension capacity."
Mana release rate is quite relevant, even if you have a lot of mana, most people have a percentage of how much they can release at once, like some people have a maximum release of only 10% of their mana.
In other words, they would have to release it 10 times to completely empty their mana, naturally the more mana is released, the stronger the attack, so having high release percentages is good.
I can release 100% of my mana at once, but according to Lilith, this comes from my race that naturally has this ability, so I’m as broken as the heroes.
"Normally, alchemists use materials to supply specific parts of the alchemy formula, whether it’s materials obtained from monsters or made by themselves, the use of materials is important because there are things that the magic circle absolutely needs."
"These things usually can’t be supplied by mana, so the item is necessary to function, and a large part of alchemy formulas were made to combine items to make something new."
"In these cases, the material would obviously be necessary," The saint explains in a somewhat excited way, unlike the previous teacher who explained in a serious and even unfriendly manner.
I start ignoring her while thinking about how I’m going to kill people, I can’t make it obvious that it’s me, so I think I’ll cover myself with a shadow armor and go out killing random people until I’m satisfied, and then come back.
Also, killing randomly can confuse the kingdom, which won’t know the reason for the murders, two birds with one stone.
