CHAPTER 93: THE NEW GOD

"It’s pretty simple," I said casually, walking next to Shido as we stepped into the courtyard. We were almost alone, as I had ordered no one to follow us as I led him through the now-cleared-out school.

As a result of all the zombies being killed within Fujimi Academy, I had gotten my first quest reward in this world just a few minutes ago.

[Quest Complete!]

Protect [Fujimi Academy]!

Prevent [Undead] from invading [Fujimi Academy]!

Rewards:

+Gained potential [Allies]!

+1 [Medium] Gacha Pull!

+279 [Low] Gacha Pulls!

The reward wasn’t anything crazy, as while it was a lot of pulls, the [Low] ones were mostly useless. I had already sifted through over a hundred of them at this point, and I didn’t even want to think about the amount of [Smoke Bomb]’s I had.

If I ever needed to escape, and for some reason didn’t want to use my physical abilities or skills, and was against an opponent who couldn’t see through a thin cloud of smoke, I was definitely prepared.

However, I said ’mostly alone’ because he had insisted on Miku being with us. He seemed to figure out pretty quickly that I tended to be nicer to beautiful women, which wasn’t hard to see as I was already being surrounded by multiple women every time I went back to the gymnasium.

He probably thought I wouldn’t kill him out here because she was near, and watching me murder a human would obviously put her off, but he was overestimating my kindness.

I certainly liked beautiful women, but Miku wasn’t so beautiful that I’d play this game with Shido to gain her favor. I had countless supernaturally gorgeous women back in my Kingdom already, and if she was really traumatized by watching Shido die, then I could live with missing out on her affection.

It was already difficult to handle my growing harem, and I didn’t consider her a top-tier woman in this world, even if she was pretty close. Rei, Saya, Saeko, and Shizuka all put her to shame easily.

"We need a vehicle to transport everyone in," I continued, referring to the students and staff huddled in the gymnasium. In reality, I didn’t need one, as I was just going to bring them through a portal into my kingdom in the DxD world, but I was just being dramatic.

"I understand, Sir Valon," Shido gave me a shaky yet sly grin, "But I don’t have the keys to my car on me, and there are a lot of zombies outside the school, so maybe I should deal with something else - like managing the students!"

Shido was actually pretty unique in this world, which was surprising for such a rat-like man. Most of the humans in this world naturally tended to show me a lot of respect, which could’ve been due to me saving their lives, but I figured it was more so because of my naturally increased [Presence].

Essentially, if they weren’t clamoring to stay close to me all the time, like Rei and Saya were doing, then they were bowing their heads instinctively whenever I was close.

Shido, despite his respectful words, seemed not to share that same innate respect. If he did, then he wouldn’t be trying to trick me so blatantly, right?

"That’s fine, you don’t need your keys for this," I just grinned lightly, my smile looking predatory as I placed one hand on his shoulder and the other on Miku’s. A split second later, they were both hoisted off the ground casually, and I shot forward.

For them, the world just blurred for a singular second, but for me, I lunged over the fence, dashed down the street in front of the school, and then easily leaped onto a nearby building.

"W-What..." Shido stumbled as we were suddenly on a rooftop, almost falling off as he stared down at the various cars and zombies walking the streets below. Notably, there was a large unoccupied bus at the foot of the building.

"W-We’re up here now?" Miku stuttered, also looking down shakily.

"You see that bus, Shido?" I continued, my grin growing even wider as I lightly patted him on the back, "We need to transport a lot of people, so we’ll need that, alright?"

Shido just gulped loudly as he looked down, taking in the sight of the various zombies walking around the bus.

"A-Ah, Sir Valon, I-I still think this is something that you would be better suited for," The man stuttered, glancing back at me with a shaky fake-smile, "Besides, I don’t even know how I’d get down there."

"Like this."

I casually pushed forward my hand on his back, and Shido was sent stumbling off the rooftop.

"W-WHAT ARE YOU-GUH!" His scream was cut off as he hurtled downward, slamming into the top of the bus roof harshly. The wind was knocked out of him, and I was sure more than a few bones were broken as he landed chest-first on the metal surface.

"W-What did you just..." Miku stuttered next to me, taking a fearful step back as I stared down at Shido’s form.

"You’re on the bus now," I called down casually, still grinning as I stared down at the man as I gave him a thumbs-up, "Good work."

"Ah... W-What... should I... do now?" Shido called up, apparently still not understanding why I had just shoved him off a building despite the blood flowing out of his mouth.

Did he think I actually wanted him to get the bus? That I just thought he was as durable as I am or something?

"You die," I said bluntly, and I heard Miku inhale sharply next to me.

"W-Wait! I-It’s... one thing to... kill a... z-zombie, but..." Shido coughed as he shakily pushed himself into a sitting position, glancing up with wide, fearful eyes, "S-Sir Valon, y-you’re not really... killing a f-fellow human... right?"

"’Fellow human?’ I’d much rather not be considered the same species as someone as slimy as you," I just chuckled lightly. "You saw me scale this building in one jump, and you still think I’m a human?"

I certainly looked human, but I doubt I could be considered one, and I certainly wasn’t anywhere close to Shido. I couldn’t blame the humans of this world for not questioning their savior about his supernatural abilities, but to assume I was a human?

"Besides, I think you should focus on yourself instead of talking to me," I called down, smirking as our voices had caused the dozens of zombies littering the street to start stalking toward the bus.

"P-Please, S-Sir Valon! I-If it’s about asking for leadership, I’m sorry! J-Just help me out!" Shido called up again, his voice becoming a bit desperate as he glanced off the edge of the bus at the zombies, "I-I can be very useful! I-I promise you!"

"H-He’s going to die if he stays down there," Miku stuttered next to me, glancing up at me with pleading eyes, "Please, you have to help him!"

"I don’t have to do anything," I merely shook my head, replying harshly as the girl’s eyes went wide, "I think you humans misunderstand me a bit."

I turned my body, towering over Miku as I stared down into her fearful eyes, "I’m helping you because I want to, not because of any moral obligation. I’ve killed more than you can imagine, and I’ll kill more than you can comprehend. I’ve been kind to you, so you seem to think that’s because I’m a generous man."

I leaned forward, my face stopping mere inches from Miku’s as her breath hitched and her body started to shake, "I’m far from generous. I’m a greedy, power-hungry bastard of a King, and I take whatever I want. You humans are simply lucky that I happen to want beautiful women."

That wasn’t a lie either - if this series had been void of Rei, Saya, Saeko, and Shizuka, I probably would’ve just said ’fuck it’ and blown up most of the school, quest rewards be damned. I had hundreds of [Low] pulls already anyway, and it wasn’t like they were difficult to acquire.

The only reason I was being civil, and not just slaughtering humans and zombies alike without a care, was because I valued the waifus. I wasn’t strange in that regard either, as for all of history, Kings had thought a similar way.

Kill the men, take the women, spare the children. Women had always been the desire of conquerors, and I wasn’t any different. That’s how King’s conquered, and they could do so because they had power.

In this weak world, I had unlimited power.

"Now, tell me," I turned back to the rooftop, staring back down at the begging Shido, who had tears in his eyes as he called up for my help again, "Does he look like a beautiful woman?"

"...N-No..." Miku answered me shakily, her eyes still full of fear as I stood in front of her.

"He doesn’t." I confirmed, as Shido might’ve been the farthest thing from that, "But, you are, so you don’t need to be afraid."

I casually reached out, placing my hand on Miku’s shoulder, and in the blink of an eye, we were back within the gates of Fujimi Academy. Shido was gone, along with all the zombies prowling the streets.

I glanced down at Miku, grinning lightly, "You don’t need to fear the undead, and you don’t need to rely on that man. I might as well be a god compared to him. As long as you’re with me, nothing will ever harm you."

Miku stared back at me blankly for a second, her fear lessening a bit as she slowly nodded.

"T-Thank... you." She finally muttered, her shoulders relaxing as she was no longer on the rooftop, and I just grinned as I wrapped my arm around her shoulders. I pulled her into my chest, and her cheeks flushed dark red as she pressed into me.

Now that she knew how I operated, it was time to remind the rest of the humans who they were dealing with. I quickly pulled away from Miku, casually grabbing her hand as I pulled her back into the school entrance.

As we approached the gymnasium, Saeko was already standing in front casually. She’d been one of the few who were unafraid to roam the hallways even when the zombies were still numerous, but now that they were gone, she was standing in front of the gymnasium without a care.

"Did you handle him?" She just asked simply, tilting her head at me as she smiled gracefully.

"He’s getting a bus for us," I said simply, "Whether he’ll make it back or not depends on his ability."

Obviously, Shido did not have the ability to fight off hordes of zombies and run all the way to Fujimi Academy.

"Good," Saeko just blushed slightly at my words, reminding me that despite being drop-dead gorgeous, she was also more than a little crazy.

Granted, most of the people in this world were crazy now, as was expected by a sudden zombie apocalypse, but she was extra crazy. While the other students I saved had either been running or fighting back to defend themselves, Saeko seemed to find joy in hunting the undead and had actually helped me a bit with clearing out the school.

She was surprisingly deadly with a wooden sword.

"Get their attention for me," I said simply, nodding at the door behind her, "I have an announcement to make."

"Of course, Your Highness," Saeko bowed her head at me lightly, licking her lips at my words.

She was also one of the few humans who actually respected my title, as the tsundere Saya seemed to just call me varying insults while she blushed, and Rei was already using my first name as she treated me as if we were dating. Finally, Shizuka was still sticking to ’cutie.’

"Go with her," I pushed Miku forward lightly, and she nodded with a blush. She followed Saeko in, and I paused for a second as I heard Saeko slamming the hilt of her kendo blade on the ground to get the room’s attention.

Then, I stepped forward, walking into the gymnasium.

"Alright, listen up!" I clapped my hands as I stood at the front of the gymnasium, easily drawing the eyes of all the students and the few remaining staff members in the room to me. "You probably recognize me already, but I will properly introduce myself. I am Valon - the Beast King and Monarch of the Underworld. And, as of now, your new King."

I finished off my words by activating [King’s Aura], letting my presence flood the gymnasium. By now, all the zombies in the area had been dealt with, and all that was left was to take control of the traumatized group of humans huddled in the gymnasium.

They needed to understand that I wasn’t their equal - I was a King, even if I was from a world they didn’t know, and my titles were ones that they didn’t understand. All they needed to know was that I had power, and they didn’t.

I blinked, pausing for a second as my method was a little bit too effective. In front of me, any standing humans had instantly fallen to their knees, and their entire bodies were folded as they bowed so lowly that their heads hit the ground.

Even the women whom I was more friendly with already, and who had talked pretty openly with me, weren’t unaffected. Even Saeko, who’d been standing to the side as she watched closely, was on her knees as she bowed down to me like I was a god.

Right, they were still normal humans. Even Saeko, who was the highest level amongst them, was only a bit over level 10. My [King’s Aura] could make even noble devils fall to their knees, so I couldn’t imagine how the humans were feeling.

"I am your King now, and you are my subjects," I continued casually, "Whatever thoughts you had about this world are gone now - the apocalypse has come, and your human governments mean nothing."

My gaze scanned across the various humans, who didn’t dare look up as I continued.

"No one will come to save you. From now on, I am your only hope," I continued dramatically, hefting my sword up and pointing it forward. "If you want to live, then you will accept my rule. This academy is mine now, and so are all of you. If you can’t accept that, then you can leave now, and bet on yourselves against the outside world. I will not stop you."

I finished there, keeping my sword raised as I towered over the crowd of humans. For a second, no one uttered a word, but then the silence was abruptly broken.

"A-All praise the god of the new world, King Valon! If you want to be saved from the apocalypse, praise the new god!"

I blinked again as a suddenly female voice called out, and I looked towards the front of the kneeling humans to see Miku with her gaze slightly raised. Her eyes were wide, her face blushing a deep red, and there were practically stars in her eyes.

What the hell was she talking about? Apparently, when I’d said I was ’like a god’ compared to Shido, she’d taken that a bit too literally.

It might’ve been a mistake showing her what I did to him, as the girl was definitely not right in the head. Granted, considering pretty much everyone was being traumatized by the apocalypse, no one was completely sane, but she extra wasn’t.

In the series, she had been one of the people crazy enough to become one of Shido’s followers - which meant she pretty much followed his word like he was a god and had orgies with his other followers. Definitely not normal behavior.

"Y-Yes! He can kill the undead! He can save us!" A sudden other voice rang out, belonging to a student I didn’t recognize as he had a dazed look in his eyes, "T-That’s why this is happening! The world is ending to welcome our new god!"

"Ah, I prefer King, not-" I started to try and dissuade that notion, but it quickly caught wildfire.

As was the case when humans were put in an unexplainable apocalypse, having to fear for their lives every second, they started jumping to conclusions. They couldn’t accept that there really was just an apocalypse, and that their world was being destroyed.

"The new god! Praise the new god!" Another human shouted, this time a female student with a reverence-filled gaze, "T-Thank you for saving me, Kami-sama! I’ll devote my life to you!"

"Yes, Kami-sama! Please continue to protect us from the world’s end!"

"Please protect me and my girlfriend from the zombies, Kami-sama! We’ll both serve you faithfully!"

"I-I didn’t realize you were a god..." That voice was muttered, and I only heard it due to my supernatural hearing as Rei was also bowing in the crowd, "I-I fell in love with a god... p-please never leave me, Kami-sama..."

Did I accidentally create a yandere?

"Cutie is a god! Whoo!" That was Shizuka, and her shout only increased the praise from the female students.

"O-Of course he’s a god! He’s so handsome... so perfect..."

"A-All praise the new god! Praise King Valon!"

"King Valon will lead us! He’ll protect us! He’ll bless us!"

"Please give me your children, Kami-sama!"

I just stared blankly, not sure what to make of the situation.

In the world of DxD, I was a powerful King. But in this world, I was a powerful god.

I had unintentionally created a cult.
