The Enhanced Doctor
Chapter 459 Seeking Benefits for Qiaoqiao
CHAPTER 459: 459 SEEKING BENEFITS FOR QIAOQIAO
Ding! Surgery completed.
Gained 300 experience points, 100 points in Diagnostic Skills Proficiency, and 500 points in Intestinal Surgery Skills Proficiency.
This mission rating is Flawless, gaining 300 experience points, 100 points in Diagnostic Skills Proficiency, 500 points in Intestinal Surgery Skills Proficiency, and 5 Glory Points.
"Very good. The surgery took 3 hours and 26 minutes," Liu Banxia said with a smile.
"Since Huang Bo was the primary surgeon, you’ll handle communicating with the family and transferring the patient to the ward. Liu Yiqing, go back and tell the other four to send someone up; there will be a small-incision appendectomy in forty minutes."
"Then, have them switch every half hour. We can utilize all the operating rooms tonight, aside from one reserved for emergencies. This way, we can save a lot of time."
"By the way, Su Wenhao, get me some food and send it to the VIP ward. I’ll just grab a bite there. Let’s try to finish the rest of the surgeries as soon as possible so the patients’ families won’t be so anxious."
After rattling off a bunch of instructions, he headed out of the operating room. He still needed to check on Tang Feifei, whose condition was quite complicated.
Su Wenhao didn’t dare delay; he had to prepare food for Liu Banxia.
As Liu Banxia had made very clear, the remaining surgeries would be performed consecutively, and he only had forty minutes to eat and rest. Compared to the others, Liu Banxia was even more tired.
"How are you feeling?" After arriving at the ward, Liu Banxia asked Tang Feifei, who was sitting on the bed.
"The results of the blood and urine tests are normal, and I also had an ultrasound, which was also normal. Dr. Xu said there are still many people waiting for MRIs, so I have to wait," Tang Feifei said.
Liu Banxia nodded. "Continue to monitor your daily water intake and urine output. Let’s wait for the MRI results."
"Dr. Liu, have you encountered this kind of illness before?" Tang Feifei asked nervously.
Liu Banxia shook his head. "I’ve only encountered diabetes insipidus, which we can completely rule out for you now. And don’t worry too much; even if there is a condition, it likely won’t be too serious."
"By the way, are you on a diet or something? Your hospital gown is practically swimming on you. You weren’t like this the last time you were here, were you?"
Tang Feifei nodded. "A new role requires me to be even thinner. Could it be a problem caused by my dieting? But I don’t skip meals, I just eat a bit more carefully."
"Let’s not jump to conclusions; we still have to wait for the test results. It must be boring staying here alone, right? Later, I’ll see if Dr. Liang has time to come and keep you company."
"She’s busy. I messaged her," Tang Feifei said, shaking her head.
"That’s a bit of a problem. I’ll give my girlfriend a call. Otherwise, being so nervous and anxious all by yourself might affect the diagnosis," Liu Banxia said with a sigh of helplessness.
In his heart, he was actually quite pleased; this was killing two birds with one stone.
He hadn’t seen Qiaoqiao for a few days, and video calls weren’t enough; he loved seeing her lively and energetic in person. Plus, Qiaoqiao would find it fun too—this was a celebrity, after all. Of course, if anyone asked, he was just being considerate of his patient. That was his "official" reason.
"Whatcha doin’?" Qiaoqiao’s lazy voice came through once the video call connected.
"I have an important task for you," Liu Banxia said seriously.
Qiaoqiao immediately sat up from the couch. "Awaiting your instructions, Leader!"
"Hmm, good attitude, Comrade. Do you remember Tang Feifei? If you don’t have other arrangements, come to the VIP ward of our Emergency Center and keep her company for a while," Liu Banxia said.
"Holy crap, seriously?!" Qiaoqiao was instantly thrilled.
Tang Feifei, who was listening, was somewhat stunned. Was Dr. Liu’s girlfriend a bit too uninhibited?
"Mind your manners, I’m in her ward right now," Liu Banxia said, a bit helplessly.
"Hahaha, I was just so excited! I love her TV shows. Anyway, should I bring some tasty snacks?" Qiaoqiao asked cheerfully.
"Have you had dinner yet?" Liu Banxia asked Tang Feifei.
Tang Feifei shook her head. "How could I have any appetite for dinner right now?"
"Qiaoqiao, bring some fried chicken. Don’t bring beer; bottled water will be fine," Liu Banxia instructed.
"Alright, I’ll buy a little extra and bring some for Qing Kewa and the others too. They were complaining to me about you recently, saying you’ve been acting strange and that I need to straighten you out," Qiaoqiao mentioned casually.
Liu Banxia rolled his eyes. So they’d been complaining about him, huh.
Just then, Su Wenhao brought him his dinner. Liu Banxia, with no regard for etiquette, started eating while examining Tang Feifei’s test results.
"Don’t worry too much. At least all the current tests are normal," Liu Banxia said after taking a sip of soup.
"Probably after eight o’clock. If there are no emergency patients, the MRI machine should be free. Qiaoqiao should have arrived by then, and she can accompany you for the scan."
"I still have five surgeries. If I’m lucky, I should be done by then. If I don’t have anything else tonight, I’ll study your medical records."
"You still have to perform so many surgeries?" Tang Feifei asked in surprise.
"They’re all minor surgeries: three appendectomies and two gallbladder removals," Liu Banxia said casually.
"For the next two days, go back to your regular diet and let’s see if your symptoms improve. You shouldn’t restrict your fluid intake because of this; you still have to drink normally, or your body will develop other problems."
At his words, Tang Feifei shyly lowered her head. Even though Liu Banxia was a doctor, formally discussing her bedwetting problem was still quite embarrassing. And she had indeed been doing that lately, controlling her water intake each day. But it was no use; she continued to wet the bed.
Liu Banxia swiftly polished off the food in his lunch box, then gulped down his soup with relish, finishing with a satisfying burp.
"Alright, entertain yourself. Watch TV if you want. Other than my girlfriend, no one else will come to bother you. When Qiaoqiao gets here, eat whatever she brings. Just try to relax for now."
Tang Feifei nodded. It was rather lonely here by herself. Being alone in a hotel room was one thing, but a hospital room, no matter how VIP, just didn’t feel the same.
Liu Banxia returned to the Emergency Center and took a short rest. Even though he hadn’t personally performed the afternoon’s surgery, standing by and observing wasn’t exactly relaxing either.
"President Liu, Dr. Xu also mentioned that unusual case to me during the handover, didn’t he?" Wang Huan asked, approaching him.
Liu Banxia nodded. "If it’s quiet later tonight, we’ll do an MRI. I suspect it might be a problem with her brain. So far, all her tests are normal, so the only thing left to check is her head."
"I feel the same way. If it weren’t for her special status, a diagnosis would likely have been made much sooner," Wang Huan commented.
"But why are you pushing yourself so hard today? You still have five more surgeries tonight. Even if you’re fast, that’s got to be at least two, almost three hours, right?"
"It’s just one tiring day, then tomorrow I can relax. Plus, Shi Lei is sympathetic; he’s letting me have a good night’s sleep tonight," Liu Banxia said with a smirk.
Wang Huan couldn’t help but shake his head. Liu Banxia was just spouting nonsense. He was the Chief Resident; how could he possibly get a good night’s sleep?
Normally, performing seven surgeries in a day wasn’t unheard of. But for Liu Banxia, it was extraordinary, especially with two major surgeries already completed.
Only Liu Banxia could handle such a grueling schedule; anyone else would have buckled.
Wang Huan didn’t disturb him further. Even a short break like this was precious for a surgeon.
When it was almost time, Liu Banxia hurried to the operating room. He was a bit curious about who would be assisting him this time.
After scrubbing in and entering the operating room, Liu Banxia grinned when he saw it was Xu Yino.
"Are all the preparations complete?" Liu Banxia asked.
"All done," Xu Yino responded quickly.
"Adjust the table. Make a 1.5-centimeter incision. You handle the opening; I’ll find the appendix when you’re done," Liu Banxia instructed.
Just as expected, Devil Liu hadn’t softened a bit. Fortunately, she was mentally prepared and wasn’t caught completely off guard.
"Don’t worry," Liu Banxia said to the patient while assisting Xu Yino. "Although she’s still an intern, she performed a liver tumor resection this morning."
"The key to a small-incision appendectomy is finding the appendix. The initial steps are just standard opening procedures. This surgery was scheduled a bit late, but at least you’ll be able to sleep soundly tonight."
"Dr. Liu, they say it’s extremely painful once the anesthetic wears off," the patient said.
"It won’t be that painful, at most a slight ache. The truly painful ones are anal fistula and hemorrhoid surgeries, because of the pressure from the hemostatic gauze we have to pack in," Liu Banxia said with a smile.
"We’ve completed the opening procedure, and now I’m going to find your appendix. While I’m lifting and resecting it, you might feel a slight pulling sensation. If it’s too uncomfortable, just tell me, and we can give you something for it."
"It’s fine, go ahead and pull it! I’m done worrying about this thing. It acts up at least once a year, and I really can’t stand it anymore," the patient said.
"That’s a good way to look at it," Liu Banxia said as he operated. "If it’s not causing problems, it’s fine to keep it. But if it is, then it’s best to remove it. Otherwise, it could become purulent or perforate, which is much more dangerous. Alright, Xu Yino, switch with me. You do the suturing."
"What? It’s over already? You’re going to suture now?" the patient asked in surprise.
"Yes, it’s all over. It’s not that complicated. Once the suturing is done, you can take a good look at your appendix. It’s tormented you for so many years," Liu Banxia said with a smile.
"Worth it... definitely worth it! This money was so well spent; it’s such a relief. I was worried I wouldn’t be able to stand the pulling sensation, but I barely felt a thing," the patient exclaimed.
"That’s mostly because you were too worried. This was just a routine minor surgery. You’ll recover very quickly," Liu Banxia replied casually.
This wasn’t the first time a patient had praised him on the operating table. In the past, he would have been overjoyed, but now he was used to it.
