The Ex-Wife's Revenge: Rise of the Real Heiress.
Chapter 62: Delusional or the real Betrothed?
CHAPTER 62: DELUSIONAL OR THE REAL BETROTHED?
"Where to, sir?" Alen asked, his expression unreadable as he saw his boss returning with a satisfied expression on his face.
"To the Grand Gardenia Residency," Daniel said, his words surprising Alen for real.
"You are meeting with Mr. George? Right after meeting his sister, whom you should remember he clearly asked you to stay away from," Alen inquired, though nodding at the driver to start the car.
When Daniel didn’t say anything and just kept looking out of the window, Alen, who had hundreds of thoughts, couldn’t control himself anymore.
"What is going on inside your mind for real, sir? When you met Miss Elara for the first time and acted like this, I really thought your low EQ was making you delusional, but it’s clearly not the case," Alen accused, turning around in his seat to glare at his boss.
Kevin looked at Alen and wondered if he had truly lost his mind just because his date didn’t go well. Because who in their organization would dare to talk to their boss like that?
Daniel’s eyes flickered to Alen briefly. His brows arched before he adjusted his position to sit more comfortably because of his wound.
"For an assistant, you are surely acting like a mother," Daniel commented.
Alen huffed loudly, clearly displeased.
"I am your subordinate who only wants well for you. How can you expect me not to act like this when you don’t keep me in the loop?" Alen said.
Daniel massaged his forehead in annoyance before taking a deep breath, still not willing to talk.
"You know Miss Elara from way before, don’t you? This meeting wasn’t a chance encounter. The way you arrived here just at the time when she went for a divorce, everything was your plan, wasn’t it?" Alen randomly started speculating about things.
When Daniel still didn’t say anything, he added some more random facts to annoy his boss, and just like he had thought, Daniel finally snapped.
"Quit it. Will you? Fine. I’ll tell you. I indeed knew Elara from way before. We... you can call us childhood sweethearts," Daniel said.
To say Alen’s pupils dilated when he heard those words would be an understatement. For a second, he couldn’t digest that his boss was a childhood sweetheart to someone.
However, something confused him.
"If you guys were childhood sweethearts, why did Miss Elara go ahead to marry that bastard Andrew? From what I found out, she was in love with him," Alen said.
Daniel looked away, the line between his brows creasing in displeasure just at the reminder.
"Because we were sweethearts during childhood, only when she was five. No connection after that," Daniel said.
Alen—"..." Sir, that’s not what you call a childhood sweetheart. Do kids even know what love is at that age?
Alen shook his head. So his boss’s obsession ran that deep?
"What exactly happened?" Alen asked generally rather than asking a particular question.
Daniel sighed.
"Elara’s and my grandparents decided for us to get betrothed, and that was how we got close. We used to play together a lot. For me, she was my wife, someone I would protect from the world no matter what...." Daniel started narrating the story.
It was a dark, rainy night when Elara’s parents had gone out to a party with his parents. They were alone at home.
She was wearing his clothes because she didn’t want to dirty her beautiful dresses.
Elara always used to play and dance at night, and that was what she did that night too.
However, when she rushed out, a van appeared out of nowhere, and men in black rushed out and forced her into the car.
They kidnapped her and took her away. The kidnapping was meant for him, but since she was wearing the boy’s clothes, they mistook her in the night and took her away.
Since she was the daughter of a prominent family, it was still a winning game for them.
He didn’t know what exactly happened. One moment, she was dancing before him with a big smile, and the next, he was rushing inside the house to call their parents and inform them of what happened.
Elara was found three days after being admitted to the hospital.
According to what police said, when they reached the site where the kidnappers kept her hostage, she was barely conscious. One of the kidnappers, to flee, used her as bait and threw her from the third floor of the building.
It was a miracle she even survived the fall. The police officers admitted her to the nearest hospital before calling everyone.
Elara recovered well, but she forgot all her childhood memories, even who her parents were. Since she was just a child, no one ever forced her to remember.
Little Daniel wanted to meet her, but during the time Elara was unconscious in the hospital, Elara’s mother went to various temples to get her chart read, and they found that Daniel’s stars were harmful for Elara.
Since then they didn’t allow him to ever meet her.
But in his heart, she was already his wife.
He didn’t say anything at that time because he partially blamed himself for what happened to Elara. Thus, he promised himself to become strong and powerful to be able to protect her for life.
Even if his stars were wrong for her, he was ready to protect her from afar, but...for some unknown reason, four years ago, the Frost family declared their daughter dead for the world.
Daniel looked out of the window when he remembered the night he heard about Elara’s death.
For the first time in his life he had felt so much rage, for not ever going to meet her once, for not ever trying to talk to her, seeing her smile in real life...
After that, he never expected to see Elara there at the horse-riding arena.
Though he had never seen her before after her accident, it didn’t take him long to figure out who she was. She was Elara, the person who was supposed to be his wife, his betrothed, the one he protected, the only woman he ever got on his knees for.
Daniel sighed.
As Alen heard the entire story, he felt his heart flutter, not because of how romantic it was, but because he was suddenly reminded of that night from four years ago.
He didn’t know what happened that time. His boss just received a call, and the next thing they knew, the man went on the rampage, even killing the biggest mafia drug-dealing rings single-handedly. That night, he looked like a monster.
Now that Alen knew the reason behind it, he couldn’t help but pity his boss a little.
It turned out, his boss was never delusional; it was just his coping mechanism to find a way to force himself into her life...
Alen looked down at his hands, feeling guilty for all the time he thought his boss was dumb in that zone.
"So what’s the plan?" Alen asked after some time.
Daniel looked at his subordinate before taking a deep breath.
"I don’t know, and I don’t care. I just know the end result of it is going to be making Elara mine," he said before he looked out again, hoping Elara would open her heart towards him sooner.
