The Fake Heiress Turns out to Be a True Tycoon!
Chapter 504: 504: Harry Whitley's Breakdown
Chapter 504: Chapter 504: Harry Whitley’s Breakdown
Sea City, a certain residential area.
Fiona Harper snuggled in Harry Whitley’s arms, enjoying their quiet time together.
Lately, she could distinctly feel subtle changes in Harry Whitley.
Even though he was still the same person.
Wearing ordinary clothes,
working a job that paid eight thousand a month,
yet his demeanor began to lean towards that of a wealthy heir.
Fiona enjoyed these changes in him.
Although Harry was already great before, the current him fascinated her even more. Once he replaced Chase Jennings and became part of the Jiang Family, her parents would surely regret saying she was blinded by infatuation.
Harry Whitley was equally enjoying the changes.
Today at the office, several female colleagues who used to ignore him found excuses to joke and chat with him.
He could clearly feel their lingering gazes on him.
What Ava Zimmerman said was all true.
Looking at the three-bedroom apartment before him now, Harry felt a bit disdainful.
It used to seem fine, but now it appeared small.
He took another look at his clothes hanging on the balcony, and the more he looked, the more he felt that clothes worth one or two hundred no longer matched him.
He thought for a moment, then said to Fiona, who was in his arms,
“Fiona, today the director talked to me, saying they want me to be in charge of the Y Shopping Mall project. From what I gathered, it sounds like they plan to promote me.”
Fiona was a bit happy when she heard this, “Really?”
But she quickly regained her calm.
Harry would soon become the heir of the Jennings Family, so whether he got promoted or not at his current job didn’t really matter anymore.
Nevertheless, she said many words of congratulations and praise with genuine sincerity.
Harry listened with a smile, then continued,
“After work tomorrow, I want you to accompany me to buy some new clothes. I’ll be in charge of the shopping mall project, and it’s not appropriate to not have a few decent outfits. I trust your taste more.”
As he spoke, he deliberately added, “Of course, I’ll pay for them myself.”
Fiona immediately expressed dissatisfaction, pouting,
“Harry, are you still being polite with me? All your money was taken by your ex-wife, how could you have any extra money left?
I’ll buy the clothes for you, don’t worry. I still have plenty left from the one million my parents gave me.”
When they moved in, Fiona had paid six months’ rent in one go, plus the deposit and caregiver fees, and had bought many things inside and out of the house, spending almost two hundred thousand.
She wasn’t heartbroken, thinking that once Harry replaced Chase as the heir, that money wouldn’t matter.
Both of them dreamed of their future days, showing longing expressions and soon, snuggled into sleep.
Early the next morning, Fiona opened her eyes, out of habit looking at Harry beside her, ready to give him a good morning kiss. However, the next second, upon seeing his face clearly, she was completely startled.
“Ah!”
Harry woke up, seeing Fiona sitting at the bedside looking at him with an indescribable terror,
“Harry, your face…”
Confused, Harry reached out to touch his face, his expression suddenly changed. He quickly turned on his phone’s front camera, shocked by the person in the reflection.
In just one night, several pus-filled sores had appeared on his face.
And he didn’t know if he was imagining things, but while he used to feel handsomer each day, looking at the camera just now, aside from the sores on his face, the person in the lens was just his plain self.
Just like before, his ordinary self.
An ominous feeling crept into Harry’s heart.
…
With his face “ruined”, Harry simply called in sick at work, saying he was going to see a doctor, but he was actually going to find Ava Zimmerman directly.
He needed to find out exactly what was going on.
He felt like all his previous changes had disappeared.
He was still the same old Harry Whitley.
No longer resembling even a little of the wealthy heir Chase Jennings.
Harry easily found Ava Zimmerman, who hadn’t deliberately avoided seeing him.
But upon seeing him, her eyes weren’t as friendly as they were at the first meeting, now filled with cold indifference, bluntly telling him,
“The Life Transfer Technique failed, you’d better just stay true to yourself.”
As for those sores, they were just the backlash from the broken magic, not affecting her, so Ava didn’t care.
After saying this, she was about to leave, but an enraged Harry stopped her,
“What do you mean, it’s failed? Are you just going to ignore me? You were the one who approached me promising I could become Chase Jennings! Now I’ve ended up like this! How can you just abandon me?!”
Harry couldn’t accept this explanation.
How could the Life Transfer Technique fail?
He was all but ready to become a wealthy heir!
Ava looked at him impassively, her face though still scarred, looked much better than before.
“Magic is never guaranteed to succeed one hundred percent. Furthermore, there’s Scarlett Jennings in the Jiang Family, which itself posed a risk. Pestering me isn’t going to help.”
Last night, when the magic was suddenly broken, Ava hadn’t even reacted.
She only saw the two clay dolls placed by Mr. Shen in her room suddenly crack and collapse.
When Mr. Shen contacted her via Talisman, his voice sounded very calm, but Ava could still feel his displeasure.
Although Harry’s case was just a test, Scarlett Jennings’ quiet breaking of the magic made Ava feel threatened.
But never mind, by Scarlett Jennings’ birthday banquet, she and Mr. Shen had another big gift prepared for her.
…
“No! You have to take responsibility for this!”
Harry Whitley was still unwilling to give up; if he had never had hope, it wouldn’t have mattered, but he was just one step away from touching the moon.
Now that he had to abandon it, how could he be resigned?
“If not the Jennings Family, then another family. There are so many wealthy heirs in Sea City, you have to help me change my fate again.”
Harry demanded, as if it were only right.
Ava only shot him an amused glance at these words, then softly spoke, “Those who talk too much are easily choked.”
Harry was puzzled, wanting to say more, but was suddenly choked by his own saliva, resulting in a fit of gut-wrenching coughing.
By the time he managed to catch his breath, Ava Zimmerman was long gone.
Harry walked down the street, disheartened. Worried that Fiona would leave him once she knew the truth, Harry deliberately reassured her over the phone.
He wandered alone outside until evening before heading home, struggling to adjust his emotions before stepping inside, only to see several shopping bags from the mall on the sofa.
Men’s and women’s designer clothes filled more than half of the sofa.
Harry was dumbfounded at once.
Fiona thought he was too surprised to speak, so she grabbed a luxury brand men’s suit and walked towards him,
“Harry, I knew you wouldn’t have time to shop while at the hospital, but it’s okay, I picked everything for you. Want to try them on?”
While shopping, Fiona not only bought menswear but also several new outfits for herself, leaving her savings halved, but she wasn’t worried.
After all, Harry would soon become a wealthy man.
If she was to appear as “Chase Jennings'” girlfriend, she had to dress up nicely too.
What Fiona thought of as considerate nearly drove Harry mad, especially after hearing she spent over two hundred thousand on these, the string he had painstakingly adjusted in his mind suddenly snapped.
Before he even realized, his hand swung a slap across her face,
“Who allowed you to spend money like this?!”
