CHAPTER 411: JUST AS A DEMON WOULD
Alice felt she wouldn’t be able to sleep on time with her doubled stats. She just needed to offload a bit to exhaust herself.
So, she took permission from Adolf to raze the red zone to the ground. The very red zone that their country was having a little hard time clearing.
It was that same place Devon had caught the three-eyed red wolf for Leo to make grilled monster meat with.
Adolf wasn’t skeptical, but he wondered why she decided on that all of a sudden. And it would be dark too.
He heard they had a fun day at the beach, so why was she suddenly looking to exhaust her strength?
"I just feel I need to train a bit more, you know." Alice said, and though it wasn’t an excusable excuse, it was still fine.
"Alright then. Take your time." He said to her, but he did not expect her to do too much. Just enough to feel alive, he thought.
Alice got his permission. And the next morning, there was breaking news that all living monsters in the red zone had been discovered dead.
None of the gates that had been left open for the longest time could be found. It was as if a mysterious power had cleared it in the dead of the night while everyone was deep in slumber.
Many raised speculations and answers were being demanded from the agency, not looking towards the association since this was a singular country affair.
And it was something unplanned.
Who could this mysterious power be, and just what were they aiming for by ridding their country of the most dangerous zone?
"Alice, you have to wake up!" Miss Stella said as he barged into the ’mysterious being’s’ room and found her sleeping like a log.
Alice’s eyebrows twitched, and she opened her exhausted eyes.
’Fuck! I got too excited last night.’ she thought.
She only planned to exhaust herself so she could get a good night’s sleep, but then she decided to try taming her demonic energy. It was such an amazing power that she didn’t even need to use gravity manipulation so much. She only used it at first to understand the range she could reach with doubled stats, and she nearly covered the entire plane.
It was amazing.
And then she tried her doubled demonic energy.
It literally ripped the monsters to shreds, leaving nothing but bones and torn flesh.
It was such a cruel power to use on living things.
She knew that, but she got carried away, suffering the monsters and putting them through hell... Just as a demon would do.
At the end of it all, there was nothing but a wasteland filled with a river of blood and monster corpses.
"I know you’re exhausted from working hard." Miss Stella said as she looked through her wardrobe.
"Wait, how do you know that?" Alice asked, dragging her body out of bed.
"The news is talking about you, after all." Miss Stella said. "Who else would be capable of razing the red zone to the ground in one night?"
"The chairman?" She shrugged while guessing half-assedly.
"Haha, he’s not that reckless." Miss Stella said. "But I did call him to confirm my suspicion."
"And the old man tattled on me." Alice said, scratching the back of her head, and Miss Stella laughed.
"But don’t worry, your secret is safe."
Miss Stella was there to get her ready for the orientation ceremony. They would be getting their temporary license but Alice was certain she would need more than just a tempo if she wanted to get into more dungeons in the future.
So, she asked the Chairman to help her with that, and he agreed. After all, this subjugation wasn’t something someone with a temporary license could partake in.
She was glad she had her connections.
She yawned as Miss Stella brushed her hair.
’I think I’m on sloth mode again.’
It was probably because she didn’t sleep for more than three hours. She’d get over it.
"I picked out something nice for you." Miss Stella said. "You’ll have to look the part if you’re going to be taken seriously, Alice. The subjugation starting tomorrow will be hard and ..." She paused, her lips quivering, but she bit it, trying to hold back.
She didn’t expect they’d send Alice alone to take care of the coast of Canada. (Technically, she’s going with Leo, but anyway)
Even if she was very strong and capable, weren’t they being too much?
She talked to her father about it, but he said it was out of his hands, and Alice had proved to be even more capable than he was.
’She told me, I have to train harder because what’s coming isn’t something simple,’ she recalled his words.
But even so... If she let Alice go with the heart that she currently had, she wouldn’t be able to take it if anything happened to this child.
"You have to be careful." Miss Stella said. "The world... Is very dangerous."
"Yeah, thanks ’mom’." Alice said, and Miss Stella paused. What did she just call her?
Alice glanced over her shoulder at her, twisting her lips lightly as she peered to see her reaction with a soft blush on her cheek.
"What did you just...?"
"Don’t take it to heart if it’s weird." Alice said, pouting her lips, and turned to face her reflection in the mirror.
She had watched from the mirror as Miss Stella bit her lip while looking at her with those eyes that made it seem like she was getting executed or something.
And seeing her worry like that, it touched her heart, and for once, she wanted to use that word. After all, no one had been a mother figure to her since her mother died.
"I was worried about you." Alice said softly. "That day, when the minotaur attacked in the classroom. I thought I’d be too late and that scared me."
"But you saved me." Miss Stella said. "I still haven’t thanked you."
Yes, she did save her, but at that moment, she had been hesitant, as if her entire body had frozen in place.
It wouldn’t take her long to get to Miss Stella and move her out of the way normally, but her body froze.
She kept thinking about it, and the horror of Miss Stella actually dying in front of her made her blood run cold.
She was lucky and was able to pull her away by the hair, but...
"I’m sorry," Alice apologized to her, holding her hand. "I’ll make it up to you."
