The Fatebound Monarch
Chapter 81: From the Fairytales
CHAPTER 81: FROM THE FAIRYTALES
Neo walked towards the eastern defence while looking around.
He could see the corpses of star beasts lying around. Most of them were humanoids with fish fins and grills. Their teeth, however, were much longer and sharper, and they had grey-coloured skin.
"Who are you?" One of the awakened Seekers questioned as he pointed his spear at Neo.
The awakened wore a short sky blue robe with a fish scales like texture and similar sandals with a necklace made up of shells, fish bones, etc.
Neo studied him for a few moments.
’Not bad of a stance, but his grip isn’t suitable for humanoid beasts...’
"I am with a guardian of The Night Tower," Neo said as he stepped forward.
The awakened raised his eyebrow as he questioned scornfully.
"Why would a guardian let an unawakened join us?"
Neo didn’t reply and just unsheathed his sword and swung it.
The awakened scoffed as his eyes glowed with a dim white, allowing him to see things in slow motion.
But, he still couldn’t see Neo’s attack. The awakened panicked and closed his eyes.
Moments passed, but nothing happened. He opened his eyes and looked where Neo was supposed to be. He turned around and his eyes fell on a merkin that was cut from its head to torso.
He looked up and saw Neo walking towards the outer end, green blood flowing down from his sword.
"What was that?... Is he really an unawakened?" The Seeker mumbled with a dumbfounded look.
The settlement was not nearly as developed as Xyonthra City due to continuous attacks by the star beasts. Most of the houses, shops, etc, were made up of wood and cracked stone.
Hanna stood between the settlement of the islanders, looking around. She saw the unawakened islanders treating the injured awakenders or those who had taken part in the defence.
She walked towards the place with the most injured with a determined look.
A Seeker with a healing trait was trying to heal another Seeker who had his shoulder ripped apart by the deadly gnashers of the merkin.
"Let me have a look at him," Hanna spoke as she walked beside the healer.
The healer lifted her head, tears streaming down her face as she questioned in a voice with subdued fury.
"Who are you?"
Hanna took a step back out of fright. She shook her head and clenched her fists, and spoke in a soft tone.
"I am a healer. I came with a guardian of Night Tower."
The healer looked at her for a few moments and shifted her gaze to the wounded Seeker as she spoke in a worried voice.
"P-Please help him..."
Hanna smiled and knelt near the wounded Seeker. She placed her hand around his shoulder, making him wince.
"Just bear it for a moment."
The wounded Seeker opened his heavy eyes and looked at Hanna as he spoke with a smile.
"I can bear anything except seeing her crying," he looked at the crying healer as he said so.
Hanna smiled at his words, and her eyes began to glow bright green; flower petals started to fall from her palms and entered the wounded Seeker’s body.
A few moments later, his body began to glow a dim green; he winced a little as his wound started to heal at a visible speed.
Hanna turned towards the healer and spoke in a gentle voice.
"You don’t have to cry anymore..." She paused and turned towards the healed Seeker before continuing.
"And you don’t have to see her cry anymore."
The nearby islanders who were looking at this suddenly spoke.
"Miss, please look at my son," a mother called out with tears in her eyes.
"Please look at my brother," a sister called out as she knelt, her head touching the ground and her tears wetting the floor.
"Take a look at him, please!" a person begged for the life of his friend.
Hanna looked at them with a shocked expression... as a single thought entered her mind.
’Who would help them if I ran away from my powers?’
For the first time, Hanna Morgan saw her powers as a blessing.
Anna was in the air, falling towards the western defence. She had already turned her golden threads solid by flowing star essence in them.
"I still can’t control them well enough." She spoke as she was falling at a staggering speed.
Anna wrapped herself in the threads as she was about to fall on a large—as large as a small truck—jellyfish-like star beast. It had a star core at the centre of its body, and its flesh was pale blue. It was a Seeker-ranked star beast, but the actual issue was its regenerative abilities.
Anna flapped her wings, slowing her descent as much as she could and landed on the gloomjelly, sending ripples throughout its body as she sank in.
Anna unwrapped the threads coiling her. Looking around, she found herself lying on the body of a strange starbeast.
She read the fate threads of an unawakened islander nearby—obtaining the needed information.
"A Gloomjelly huh..." Anna spoke as she spread her threads throughout the Gloomjelly’s body, covering it whole.
She spread her star essence throughout the threads, turning them sharp and solid and pulled them.
The Gloomjelly wiggled as its body was shredded into small bits. She didn’t cut its star core; she pulled it towards herself and crushed it in her palm. Absorbing the unrefined star essence within.
Doing so during a battle was nearly stupid, but Anna’s trait made her more than capable of doing so without an issue.
Anna took out her daggers and lunged at the nearest merkin and dug her daggers into its back. She formed her threads and commanded them to coil around the nearby merkins, placing them in the best position for her to begin her slaughter.
"Aye! Have I turned stupid, or did she just drop from the sky?" An awakened questioned as he nudged the one beside him, his voice full of disbelief.
The other awakened shook his head and answered.
"Nah... She had golden wings too... like an angel from the fairytales." The other awakened said with sparkling eyes.
