The Favored Heiress
Chapter 888: Opportunity
CHAPTER 888: CHAPTER 888: OPPORTUNITY
Li Qiao lazily lifted her eyelids, looking at Xi Luo in the video, "Are you... in the sky?"
Xi Luo: "..."
What the hell, in the sky.
She flipped the camera, aiming at the night outside the cabin, "Never seen a Ferris wheel?"
"Oh." Li Qiao responded, continuing the previous topic, "Having killed people, what’s killing a dog."
Xi Luo switched back to the front camera, echoing repeatedly, "Yes, yes, the one at your place wouldn’t even regard it as anything if he slaughtered a city. But now the issue is, he’s carrying the title of Archbishop, these things can be done secretly but definitely not openly.
What are you thinking, got any good strategies? If not, I’m hanging up."
Li Qiao, with carefree composure, "What’s the rush."
"You talk nonsense, how can I not be? If this doesn’t resolve well, all the aides on the Archbishop’s side will be implicated, I’m first in line."
Li Qiao smiled ambiguously, raising an eyebrow, "Not that serious."
Xi Luo squinted thoughtfully, shaking her phone, "With that look, got a strategy?"
"Hmm, sort of."
Li Qiao supported her chin with one hand, revealing a faintly intriguing smile.
Xi Luo didn’t understand, nor did she want to delve deeper, turned to overlook the night scene below the Ferris wheel, sighed softly, "This move is so sinister, wonder who you learned it from..."
Before the words even fell, Xi Luo stopped speaking.
This move is not only sinister but also very familiar.
Li Qiao had been using the British Imperial Times Newspaper to expose the Charlman Family’s scandals recently.
Xi Luo pouted, withdrew her gaze and looked at the screen, "Alright, you seem totally unaffected, while my silly brother is getting all worked up for you in British Imperial. Hanging up now."
Both hung up the call, Li Qiao slowly relaxed her brows, glanced at the time, already midnight at half-past twelve.
She closed the computer and walked out of the lab, the mansion immersed in the night was exceptionally quiet.
Just as Li Qiao returned to the living room, Bai Yan’s call came in again.
Shang Yu’s matter has made quite an impact in British Imperial, and over there it’s daytime, the public opinion ferment is very rapid.
Over the phone, Bai Yan sighed, voice warm and hoarse, "What’s going on? Even news like this can be published, has the Xiao family run out of tricks?"
"Who knows." Li Qiao casually leaned on the sofa armrest, fiddling with the robe tie, couldn’t help but yawn.
Bai Yan was silent for several seconds, "What do you plan to do? I checked, the news was released by Global Society, no clear evidence so far, probably there’s more behind it."
Li Qiao looked up, blinked, and laughed lightly, "Maybe there is, maybe there isn’t."
"Speak human language."
Li Qiao smirked, "If it were you, would you use something without proof as a gimmick?"
Bai Yan didn’t hesitate, "Only an idiot would do that."
"So, it’s not without proof." Li Qiao crossed her legs, saying calmly, "He wants to kill two birds with one stone, while testing tires out."
Bai Yan sneered coldly, "The first bird is your Master Yan, who’s the second?"
"Ming Dailan."
Li Qiao cleared her throat, maybe from talking too long, it was dry, she got up to pour water and warned Bai Yan, "Don’t make a move, wait and see."
Bai Yan pulled a face, muttering, "Still wait and see huh? If Shang Shaoyan’s reputation gets ruined, I’m definitely coming after you for compensation."
"His reputation is way better than yours."
Listening to the disconnect signal from the phone, Bai Yan cursed, grabbed a cigarette from the bed, couldn’t help but rethink, is his reputation worse than Shang Shaoyan’s?
Utter bullshit.
...
At one in the night, Li Qiao appeared downstairs at the Yan Emperor Headquarters.
She got out, stepping on the thin layer of snow, looked up as several snowflakes floated down with the wind, it’s snowing again.
Li Qiao came on her own because Luoyu had gone out in the evening.
She gazed at the brightly lit Yan Emperor Building, just about to step in when the exit of the parking lot beside her suddenly lit up with headlights.
Li Qiao halted, listened to the approaching engine, stood in the snow focusing her gaze.
The business car slowly drove out, perhaps seeing Li Qiao, the vehicle abruptly stopped, leaving deep tire marks in the snow.
The automatic door opened, Shang Yu stepped out in a dark suit.
Under the streetlamp, snowflakes cast patchy shadows.
Shang Yu wearing a coat, strides toward Li Qiao, "When did you come? Why not sleep well at home?"
Li Qiao had a few snowflakes on her head, smiled slightly, instead of answering, she asked, "Just finished?"
The man was about to remove his coat from his shoulder, Li Qiao stopped his movement, "Not cold."
"Came specifically to see me?" Shang Yu brushed some snowflakes off her hair, eyes dark as ink, a color thick with light yet not able to disperse.
Li Qiao pulled down his hand, glanced at the empty road ahead, "It’s snowing, walk with me?"
Shang Yu lifted a faint smile, eyes showing a bit of helplessness, "Staying up late just for a walk?"
"This is called fun." Li Qiao held his hand, fingers interlaced, "Let’s go."
Shang Yu always indulged her without limits, it was fortunate that on snowy days it wasn’t cold.
The street lights stretched their shadows, snowflakes fell sparsely, business and Mercedes cars followed slowly behind, safeguarding them.
They walked quietly for a few meters, Li Qiao glanced sideways at Shang Yu, slowed her pace, "Is everything settled?"
The man tightened his grip on her fingers, smiled slightly and lowered his eyes, "Hmm, pretty much."
Li Qiao observed his handsome face unblinkingly, still sharp and unrestrained, seemingly unaffected.
Maybe her gaze was too intense, the man turned towards her, lips curving in a gentle smile, "Why look at me like this?"
A snowflake landed on Li Qiao’s eyelash, she blinked, raised her brows freely, "Seeing if you’re affected."
Even though Ming Dailan’s impact on Shang Yu was not as strong as before, it doesn’t mean there was none.
The heart knot over the years needs an opportunity for complete resolution.
This time, just right.
Shang Yu lowered his eyes to meet hers, the curve of his lips deepened, "The news from British Imperial?"
"Hmm." Li Qiao faced his question directly, each word was precise and valuable, "That past incident wasn’t related to you, no need to be influenced."
Then, she succinctly revealed the truth from eleven years ago.
The snow grew heavier, filling the footprints along their way.
Shang Yu stayed silent for long, eyes heavy with shadows.
His Adam’s apple moved, taking her hand to his lips for a kiss, "No one other than you can affect me anymore."
Li Qiao’s heart stirred, warmth flowing throughout, she turned her face away, paused for two seconds and unromantically said, "Then don’t handle her matters behind my back, I can do it with you."
At this moment, Shang Yu’s warm fingertips turned her face back, laughing softly, "Think I was sorting her matter?"
