The Forensic Doctor Better Than a Detective
Chapter 327 - 205: Is There Any Other Possibility?
CHAPTER 327: CHAPTER 205: IS THERE ANY OTHER POSSIBILITY?
Twenty minutes later, Li Jian’s phone began to ring.
He took out his phone and glanced at the caller ID; it was Mr. Liu from the criminal investigation team.
"Hello!"
"Mr. Li, I’m currently at the Jiangcheng City Meteorological Bureau. According to their data, the wind direction on July 24th was northeast."
"Was it northeast all day?"
"Yes! It was northeast the entire day."
"Alright, thanks for your hard work!"
After hanging up, Li Jian said sternly, "The Meteorological Bureau confirms that the wind direction in Jiangcheng that day was indeed northeast."
Just as he finished speaking, Li Jian’s phone rang again.
He looked down at the caller ID, swiped to answer, and immediately pressed the speaker button.
"Mr. Li, this is Zhang Ming from the forensic lab. The pectoral muscle test report you sent over has been completed."
"Based on the peak characteristics of hemoglobin detected in the chest muscle, we estimate the carbon monoxide levels in the two victims’ bodies reached lethal concentrations."
"Got it! Thanks for letting me know!"
Instantly, Zhang Yean said excitedly, "The concentration of carboxyhemoglobin in their bodies reached lethal levels, and the wind direction condition suggests the accumulation of carbon monoxide. Doesn’t this perfectly indicate these two victims died from accidental carbon monoxide poisoning?"
Wan also laughed and said, "Wow! This major issue is resolved just like that!"
The tension on Li Jian’s face eased a bit.
However, he turned to look at Jiang An.
"Jiang An, do you think we can confirm this entire case was an accidental death?"
In response, Jiang An glanced at the gas water heater.
After much thought, he said, "Mr. Li, it does appear the room has the objective conditions for carbon monoxide poisoning."
"But to say carbon monoxide poisoning was definitely the cause of death, I don’t think the reasons are quite sufficient."
"Oh?"
Li Jian was a bit surprised; wasn’t it just you who proposed they died of carbon monoxide poisoning?
How come there’s still another possibility?
Seeing the doubt in Li Jian’s eyes, Jiang An said, "Mr. Li, to be on the safe side, I reckon we could conduct a forensic experiment."
"A forensic experiment?"
"What kind of forensic experiment?"
Zhang Yean and Wan both looked at Jiang An with puzzled expressions.
Jiang An explained, "On that night, both victims had dinner out and did not use the gas stove or water heater at home to cook."
"The only scenario where the water heater could have been used might have been for showering at home."
"Later, let’s turn on the water heater in the bathroom and observe the carbon monoxide generation."
Li Jian nodded slightly after hearing this.
"This method is good! Data from forensic experiments often appear more intuitive."
"Besides, our current assumptions about the source of carbon monoxide are just conjecture; we must thoroughly verify this notion."
Then, Li Jian asked, "Do you need any materials?"
Jiang An replied, "It’s southeast wind today; we could use a fan to simulate northeast wind direction, blowing exhaust from the gas water heater from the kitchen balcony inward."
"Also, we might need to contact the fire department to measure the air carbon monoxide concentration and ensure our personal safety."
Wan immediately gave a thumbs up.
"Brother, you’re quite right!"
"This case isn’t solved yet; we can’t sacrifice ourselves for it."
Li Jian thought for a moment after listening.
He said, "I’ll arrange it right away."
Zhang Yean smiled and said, "Later, we’ll witness a miracle."
Meanwhile, Mr. Ma was still absorbed in his joy.
He was delighted that his subordinates in the criminal investigation team were quite competent.
Just as he stood by the window admiring the scenery, there was a sudden urgent knock on the door.
Mr. Ma turned around, "Come in!"
Mr. Wang from the petition office quickly came in.
"What’s going on? Why the rush?"
Mr. Wang adjusted his glasses and said anxiously, "Reporting Mr. Ma, the family of the 7.24 case are blocking the petition office entrance, demanding to see you."
Upon hearing this, Mr. Ma hesitated for a moment.
"Want to see me?"
Mr. Wang nodded, "They say they won’t leave unless they see you!"
After a moment of contemplation, he asked, "Why do they want to see me?"
"Mainly, they have doubts about the cause of death mentioned in the forensic report, which states it was due to excessive drinking."
Mr. Ma took a sip of tea and said calmly, "No problem! I’ll go with you."
Mr. Li looked anxious, "Mr. Ma, the death cause assessment report for the two victims was issued by Jiangcheng Medical University’s forensic identification center, unrelated to our criminal investigation team."
"How about I send them directly to Jiangcheng Medical University?"
Mr. Ma quickly waved his hand.
"Absolutely not; otherwise, this will escalate conflicts, making us very passive."
After pausing briefly, Mr. Ma continued, "Moreover, there are some new developments in this case currently."
"New developments?"
A hint of surprise appeared on Mr. Wang’s face.
Mr. Ma picked up the phone on the table and said, "Let’s go! We’ll chat as we walk."
Five minutes later, Mr. Ma and Mr. Wang arrived at the entrance of the Jiangcheng City petition office.
From afar, they could see a crowd of people.
He then turned and said, "It’s impossible to talk with this many people around."
"Go find the parents of the two victims; I’ll wait for you in the small conference room."
Mr. Wang quickly said, "Mr. Ma, please wait a moment!"
Five minutes later, Mr. Wang brought over the parents of the victims.
They were the parents of Chen Guang and Liang Yan.
The faces of two middle-aged women were still glistening with tears.
"Please have a seat!"
"I am Mr. Ma, from the Jiangcheng City Bureau!"
