The Grants: Choosing One Between The Two
Chapter 100: Henry Jennings Forces Yvette Aston to Beg Him Again
CHAPTER 100: CHAPTER 100: HENRY JENNINGS FORCES YVETTE ASTON TO BEG HIM AGAIN
The company cafeteria.
It was noon, and no one invited Yvette to lunch.
Yvette wasn’t familiar with the company either.
Normally, HR should have arranged someone to help Yvette get acquainted with the company, but Lilith didn’t think Yvette would last long at the company, so she deliberately made things difficult.
"Hey? Why aren’t you going to eat?" A kindhearted female employee asked from outside the door.
Yvette glanced at the time and quietly asked, "Hello, where’s the company restaurant?"
The female employee checked the time. "At this hour, there’s probably nothing left to eat. Didn’t HR show you around the company?"
Yvette shook her head.
"Then let me take you there." The female employee was about to lead Yvette to the cafeteria, but someone else pulled her aside.
"Why are you bothering with her? Don’t you know she got in through connections? I heard she’s just a high school graduate and has a criminal record. Stay away from her; I’ve heard she’s a thief."
The kindhearted employee was shocked and turned to look at Yvette. How could someone with just a high school diploma get into Grant Group?
"Sorry, I’ve just got some work to do. You should ask someone else." The female employee made an excuse and hurried away.
Yvette lowered her eyes, looking at her fingers, as she had already anticipated this.
Walking through the hallway, Yvette noticed not even the janitors were willing to talk to her. Everyone avoided her; as soon as she passed by, there were whispers behind her.
Yvette had already guessed that this was their way of intimidating her.
"Excuse me, may I ask... where’s the cafeteria?" Yvette cautiously asked a janitor in the restroom.
The janitor focused on mopping the floor as if Yvette wasn’t there.
Yvette quickly stepped back, feeling a bit aggrieved, and lowered her head in silence.
After wandering around the company alone, Yvette found the cafeteria, but the staff had already started cleaning up.
"Are you new here?" The cafeteria caretaker softly asked seeing Yvette standing alone at the door.
Yvette nodded.
"Lunchtime is at eleven forty. It’s almost time to start work again. Come earlier next time," the caretaker reminded her.
Yvette nodded, turned around, and left.
"If you’re hungry, walk about a hundred meters into the alley behind the company. They sell lunch there; you can check it out," the caretaker added.
Yvette thanked him and walked out of the company.
"That’s Yvette, right? Do you remember the fake and real heiress case from six years ago? It was all over the news because of her."
"She’s the one who swapped the real heiress’s life with her own for over twenty years. A thief with a criminal record and only a high school diploma."
"How shameless to come to Grant Group."
Yvette kept her head down.
These people weren’t afraid of her hearing them at all.
"I heard she has a trick for serving men. There’s no man in the Meridia social circle she hasn’t been with."
Yvette’s steps stalled for a moment, but she didn’t look back.
There was no need to explain.
When she tried to prove her innocence, she was already considered guilty.
"I heard that Special Assistant Carter recommended her to come; maybe she slept with him too?"
Yvette quickly walked out of the company, her fingers trembling.
In truth, she was already used to these rumors. If HR wanted to force her out with this method, it was too rudimentary.
Buying a cup of soy milk in the alley, Yvette glanced back at the direction of Grant Group.
The building was really tall.
A height that most people could never reach in their lifetime.
"Yvette, is that you? It’s Xiaoya, do you remember me?" Someone called Yvette on the phone; it was Xiaoya, the receptionist from The Montville Club.
Yvette remembered; this girl was very kind-hearted.
"Xiaoya, did something happen?" Yvette softly inquired.
Her phone number was new, Xiaoya couldn’t have known it, and the only person at the club who knew was Holly.
Yvette had contacted Holly after changing her phone number.
"Holly Ziegler asked me to call you. She’s in trouble; can you come to see her?" Xiaoya cried.
Yvette’s heart tightened, her grip on the phone tightening. "What’s happened?"
"The old client Mr. Aldridge, whom Holly always took care of, his wife came and... they assaulted Holly. Holly was pregnant; she didn’t know, and she’s having massive bleeding... Even if they save her, her uterus... her uterus can’t be saved."
Xiaoya’s voice trembled from crying.
"Holly and Mr. Aldridge have nothing to do with each other; they’re clean. Holly has a boyfriend, one of our club’s managers, and the baby is his. Holly was beaten, and that man actually hid."
Yvette took a deep breath.
She actually knew Holly had a boyfriend; even though Holly never said it, Yvette could tell during those few days they lived together.
"Did you call the police..." Yvette numbly asked.
Even though she knew full well, calling the police would be useless.
"The other side has connections that we can’t afford to offend," Xiaoya cried on the phone. "Yvette, I don’t know what to do; I don’t have enough money for the medical bills. The club won’t cover them either. You know President Jennings; could you ask him to make a call? Please, I’m begging you, could you ask President Jennings for help?"
"He could solve it with a single call." Xiaoya’s plea was filled with helplessness.
"Which hospital?" Yvette’s voice trembled.
Asking Henry Jennings for help?
"Montville Central Hospital."
"I’ll figure something out..." Yvette squatted down, feeling helpless as she clutched her hands.
What could she figure out?
It was her first day at Grant Group today, and if she left now, she might not even pass the probation period.
If she left now, Ethan Grant would be very disappointed, wouldn’t he?
But if she didn’t go, what would happen to Holly?
Holly had once saved Yvette’s life.
Besides asking Henry Jennings, she had no other option.
...
Ripple Court Hotel.
Henry Jennings sat on the sofa, looking at Ben Ziegler. "Yvette isn’t staying with Caden Summers and the others?"
Rubbing his temples, Henry was a bit frustrated. "Can’t even find one person?"
"President Jennings, this is Ethan Grant’s territory in Meridia. If he doesn’t want us to find someone..." Ben sighed.
"Buzz." The phone rang.
Henry picked up and looked at the unfamiliar number. "Hello?"
"Henry..."
It was Yvette on the other end.
"Yvette? Where are you?" Henry straightened up, genuinely concerned about her.
"Could you... help me with something," Yvette asked awkwardly.
"Where are you?" Henry just wanted to know where Yvette was, whether she was safe.
"Holly Ziegler is at Montville Central Hospital and needs money... to save her. Please help me. I’ll pay you back," Yvette urgently said.
Henry frowned, glanced at Ben, signaling him to handle it. "Don’t worry, I’ve already sent Ben to deal with it. Where are you? I’ll take you back to Montville."
Yvette remained silent. "I... found a job. It’s my first day, so I can’t leave right now. I’m off at five thirty. I’ll figure something out myself..."
"I’ll take care of Holly’s situation. I’ll wait for you until five-thirty to take you to see her." Henry wanted to seize the opportunity to bring Yvette back to Montville.
"Okay..." Yvette agreed. "Thank you."
Hanging up, Henry looked at Ben. "What’s the situation with Holly Ziegler?"
Ben, who had also just hung up, seemed flustered. "Carl Aldridge’s wife found the club, got into a fight with Holly, and Holly fell down the stairs. She was pregnant, and now there’s severe bleeding."
Henry frowned, massaging his temples.
He had purposefully let Carl’s wife know about Holly, thinking that if Holly ran into trouble, she would surely contact Yvette, and Yvette would have to come to him for help.
He didn’t expect things to get so serious.
"Handle it quickly!" Henry, agitated, lost his cool and kicked the table.
