The Grants: Choosing One Between The Two
Chapter 112: The Jennings Family Fights for Summers’ Custody
CHAPTER 112: CHAPTER 112: THE JENNINGS FAMILY FIGHTS FOR SUMMERS’ CUSTODY
"As the kindergarten with the highest safety index in Meridia, how could you allow a child to leave school early without notifying the family? If anything happens to the child, the school cannot escape responsibility." Ethan Grant’s voice carried a strong warning.
"Mr. Grant, the person was the principal himself..." The teacher, terrified, stammered.
"Get the principal here." Ethan was low-key angry as he called Christopher Carter, "Check the surveillance around the kindergarten, see who took Summers away, and do it quickly."
Very soon, the principal came rushing out. "Mr. Grant..."
"My child is entrusted to your school, only for anyone to come and pick him up as they please?" Ethan’s pressure was daunting; he was already cold, but now his fury was even more intimidating.
"Mr. Grant, your child?" The principal was stunned for a while, glancing at the records. "Are you talking about young Summers? It was Old Master Jennings himself who came. He claimed to be the child’s grandfather, coming to pick him up on behalf of the father."
Yvette Aston’s hand froze with her phone in it, Jennings Family... Old Master Jennings?
Did he personally come to take Summers away? What does he intend to do?
"The child has no father, no grandfather... Why did you let them take the child away without my consent, why! You clearly know my phone number." Yvette’s emotions were slightly out of control.
Ethan gently held Yvette with one arm, his voice low and steady. "The school must give me a satisfactory explanation for this."
After speaking, he took Yvette with him and left. "Old Master Jennings acknowledged Summers as a member of the Jennings Family, so he won’t harm him. Summers is smart, even traffickers couldn’t trick him. He wouldn’t leave with strangers easily. Let’s find the child and hear his explanation."
Yvette’s face was pale, her body trembling, as she crouched down weakly, her eyes burning.
She was afraid, afraid that the Jennings Family would truly fight her for Summers’s custody.
"Yvette, take a deep breath." Ethan squatted in front of Yvette, soothing her gently. "Look at me, Summers will be okay. Don’t be afraid; as long as you don’t agree, no one can take Summers away from you. Trust me."
Yvette looked at Ethan, her breathing rapid, her eyes warm.
Perhaps out of sudden emotion, Yvette mindlessly reached out to hug Ethan and began crying.
It was likely an instinctive move; she didn’t realize her act was too intimate.
After crying for a while, Yvette realized that Ethan disliked women approaching him...
Yvette instinctively let go of Ethan, scared white.
Yet Ethan didn’t push Yvette away; he even held her waist when she instinctively reacted and almost fell. "Calmed down?"
His voice was always pleasing to hear.
Yvette felt Ethan was like salvation in the deep sea, always calming her down instantly, easing her anxiety.
"I-I’m sorry."
The principal on the side was terrified, his legs feeling weak; Yvette and Ethan’s relationship was too ambiguous.
"Mr. Grant... It’s like this, we allowed the other party to take him after young Summers agreed. We didn’t expect someone of Old Master Jennings’s identity and social status..." The principal tried hard to explain. "Old Master Jennings said there was no need to inform Miss Aston, and he came with a paternity test. Young Summers is bright, he solved his reading difficulties by the age of four."
Summers was a rare genius, having no reading difficulties except with obscure characters by around four years old.
Caden Summers was very attentive to Summers; when no kindergarten would take him, he bought a dictionary to teach him personally.
Now, Summers was almost five and a half and could identify a paternity test and understand its meaning without issue.
"In this matter, our school is responsible. I have already contacted Old Master Jennings’s assistant. Both young Summers and Old Master Jennings are at Ripple Court International. Let’s first find the child to ensure his safety. Our school will certainly do all it can to make up for this mistake. Do you..." The principal almost cried from fear; the Grant Group, after all, was the school’s protector, and they couldn’t afford to offend them.
Ethan snorted but said nothing, holding Yvette as they got into the car.
Christopher Carter soon called. "Mr. Grant, they’re at Ripple Court International. Old Master Jennings came to Meridia himself! Summers is with him; he didn’t intend to hide."
After hanging up, Ethan looked at Yvette with some concern.
Old Master Jennings didn’t intend to hide it, and Summers voluntarily went with him; this was also a dangerous signal.
The Jennings Family would definitely fight for this child’s custody.
Yvette stared numbly at her phone as Henry Jennings also called. "Yvette! My grandfather... took Summers away; I’m on my way to Ripple Court International. Don’t worry; Summers will be fine."
"Henry..." Yvette’s voice was hoarse. "You promised me you wouldn’t fight me for Summers."
On the other end, Henry was silent. "Yvette, I never intended to fight you for Summers. Summers is yours; I won’t compete. But the prerequisite is, you must also be mine."
Yvette instinctively went to bite her finger, tears welling in her eyes.
Ethan quickly grabbed Yvette’s hand, frowning and shaking his head.
Yvette looked at Ethan for help. What should she do?
How could she possibly keep Summers?
"Yvette, I’m not trying to threaten you. Think it over for yourself; I don’t wish for you to get too close to Ethan Grant." Henry knew Yvette was with Ethan.
He was insanely jealous.
Watching Yvette leave in Ethan’s car drove him mad with envy.
He wasn’t just saying this to Yvette; it was meant for Ethan as well.
Henry hung up, knowing Yvette had no options and had to abide.
He certainly didn’t know that Yvette had already registered her marriage with Ethan.
In Henry’s understanding, it was an impossibility.
He couldn’t marry Yvette, and Ethan was even less likely to.
The Grant Family valued their image over the Jennings Family’s.
"Let’s go pick up Summers first." Ethan consoled.
After all, Henry was Summers’s biological father; he couldn’t say much.
Yvette lowered her eyes, gripping her phone tightly.
Summers was Henry’s child; this was an insoluble problem.
The bloodline couldn’t be cut; sooner or later, they would take Summers away.
How long could Ethan help her?
The end of their three-year marriage would come; where would she go then?
Where would Summers go?
"Mr. Grant... don’t fight for Summers’s custody on my behalf." As the car parked in Ripple Court’s parking lot, Yvette spoke with a hoarse voice.
Once Ethan got involved in the custody issue, the Jennings Family would know about her marriage registration with Ethan.
Apex and Grant Group were strategic partners yet also competitors. Yvette’s reputation was bad, and she was once Jayden Grant’s fiancée; this would bring great trouble to Ethan, even becoming a mark he couldn’t erase.
This is the Grant Family, something Arthur Grant would never allow.
It would be unfavorable for Ethan’s position within the Grant Group as well.
So... she couldn’t let Ethan get involved.
Ethan furrowed his brows, feeling the impulse for the first time to act recklessly, disregarding the consequences.
