The Grants: Choosing One Between The Two
Chapter 166: Wendy Bell Installs a Virus on Ethan Grant’s Computer
CHAPTER 166: CHAPTER 166: WENDY BELL INSTALLS A VIRUS ON ETHAN GRANT’S COMPUTER
"Mr. Grant, what are you looking for?" Yvette saw Ethan searching for something and walked over to ask.
"Nothing..." Ethan instinctively stuffed the photo into the safe and coughed lightly. "Go to the finance department and have them send over the report for the last quarter."
Yvette nodded blankly and turned to leave the office.
The report for the last quarter? Didn’t finance give it to Mr. Grant?
Once Yvette left, Ethan finally let out a sigh of relief.
He had never felt so guilty in his life...
Summers looked so much like his younger self.
Rubbing his forehead, Ethan got up and walked out of the office.
"Christopher, keep Yvette safe. When she goes to the bathroom, you wait outside, don’t let Jayden get close to her." Ethan pointed warningly at Christopher. "Bring your brain to work."
Christopher scratched his head. "Where are you going? Shouldn’t I drive you?"
"I’m driving myself out. If Yvette asks, just say I had to go out to sign a contract. I’ll pick up Summers on the way back; when she’s off work, you take her home," Ethan instructed and hurriedly left.
Christopher snorted; he’s really become Yvette’s little follower. Whose assistant is he anyway?
But it’s better to follow Yvette than getting reprimanded by Ethan.
Growing up, he was always scolded by Ethan at home, and even now, he still gets scolded. How can life be so hard...
"Assistant Carter." Outside the door, Wendy Bell called gently, her eyes red.
Christopher stood up quickly and looked at Wendy sympathetically. "Miss Bell, are you looking for Mr. Grant?"
"No, I’m here to see Yvette." Wendy whispered.
Christopher glanced around. "Sorry, Yvette might be busy with work. Why don’t you... wait a bit?"
"Then I’ll wait in Ethan’s office for a while." Wendy went straight into the office.
Christopher followed; his duty didn’t allow him to leave Wendy alone in the office.
It’s always good to be cautious...
"Assistant Carter, I’ll just wait here for a while." Wendy smiled at Christopher, looking slightly pale. "Could you get me a glass of water?"
Christopher nodded and walked out of the office to get Wendy some water.
Seeing Christopher leave, Wendy clenched her fingers and stood up, quickly heading to Ethan’s computer. Wendy inserted a USB drive into it.
The USB contained a virus that would penetrate Ethan’s computer, allowing hackers to easily break into Ethan’s defense system and access useful information.
Hearing Christopher’s footsteps, Wendy quickly pulled out the USB and sat back down with a racing heart.
"Miss Bell, your water." Christopher handed Wendy the water.
Wendy, looking pale, thanked him and drank absentmindedly.
When Yvette returned, Christopher and Wendy were in the office, but Ethan wasn’t there.
"Mr. Grant went out to take care of something. Miss Bell is looking for you," Christopher explained, standing aside without any intention to leave.
He had to protect Yvette.
Wendy Bell intended to say something but glanced at Christopher awkwardly. "Assistant Carter, may I speak to Yvette alone?"
Christopher’s mind raced, thinking of a reason to stay.
"Christopher, I’ll talk to Miss Bell." Yvette spoke up.
She wanted to see what Wendy had to say.
Christopher had no choice but to leave the office and eavesdrop from outside.
"Miss Bell, what would you like to talk about?" Yvette asked.
"Tomorrow, our family will hold a press conference to openly acknowledge all the wrongs Claudia has done in the past." Wendy’s eyes turned red as she walked over to hold Yvette’s hand. "Yvette, I genuinely want to be friends with you. I’m sorry... I’m apologizing to you on behalf of Claudia."
Yvette instinctively backed away, uncomfortable with close proximity from others.
"Yvette, we are friends. If you ever face any difficulties, please tell me, okay? I don’t have many good friends; you’re my best friend..." Wendy murmured. "Okay?"
Yvette clenched her fingers, wanting to say no.
"Yvette, don’t worry. Tomorrow’s press conference will only acknowledge Claudia’s mistakes without mentioning you, ensuring you’re not exposed to the public again." Wendy stated Ethan’s requirements ahead of time, so that when the press conference was released, Yvette wouldn’t think Ethan was being considerate of her.
Yvette said nothing.
Delayed justice, one wonders if it still counts as justice.
But delayed is far better than never.
"Yvette, our family will send Claudia abroad. It’s going to be difficult for Claudia to return to Meridia in the future." Wendy moved closer to Yvette. "Yvette, I hope you can become my sister. In Meridia, I’ll protect you."
Yvette remained silent, feeling Wendy was very insincere.
Everyone in the Bell family seemed insincere.
"When I’m part of the Grant family, I promise Ethan and I will take good care of you and Summers. You know Ethan seems cold, but he’s actually very affectionate. Though we’ve had some misunderstandings, he still cares about me; I understand that." Wendy quietly said, shyly smiling. "In the future, we’ll be family."
"I already have a family." Yvette shook her head.
Wendy smiled. "Yvette, don’t be shy. It’s settled then. You focus on your work, and tomorrow let’s go shopping, alright? You’re not off tomorrow?"
"Not off." Yvette shook her head.
"Ah... Ethan is really squeezing his employees, but I’ll help you take a leave. You wait for my good news." After saying this, Wendy happily left.
Yvette stood in place, slowly releasing her clenched hands.
Wendy always spoke to her as if she were the mistress of the Grant family...
This made Yvette very uncomfortable.
But there was no alternative.
The Bell family had already made the maximum concessions, and if Ethan continued to stalemate with Arthur, refusing the marriage alliance... then Ethan’s position at the Grant Group could truly become precarious.
...
Outside the company building.
Wendy got into the car with a composed expression, answering Jayden’s call. "I’ve done what you asked; I told you, I’ll only help you this once."
"Well, thank you, sis-in-law." Jayden spoke with a smile.
He had Wendy insert a virus-laden USB drive into Ethan’s computer, allowing hackers to break into Ethan’s computer defense system in the shortest time possible.
"There’s only Yvette in Ethan’s office. If this matter explodes, I hope the first person Ethan suspects is Yvette." Wendy said meaningfully.
"Of course." Jayden chuckled. "I’ve already arranged everything."
Wendy snorted and hung up the phone.
This time, she helped Jayden, which meant Ethan’s position at Grant Group was bound to be shaky.
Ethan is a smart man. With Jayden’s power growing, he must find a way to stabilize his position.
At this point, agreeing to Arthur’s marriage alliance and being with her obediently is the most appropriate choice.
Otherwise... given Arthur’s temperament, Ethan would lose more than he gains.
She wanted Ethan to know that her worth, Wendy Bell’s worth, was far beyond this.
