The Grants: Choosing One Between The Two
Chapter 172: Ethan Grant Counter-Hacks Jayden Grant’s Computer
CHAPTER 172: CHAPTER 172: ETHAN GRANT COUNTER-HACKS JAYDEN GRANT’S COMPUTER
CEO’s office.
As soon as Yvette Aston entered the office, she noticed a cup of hot milk on the desk.
"Christopher Carter, is this for me?" Yvette asked in surprise.
"Yeah." Christopher nodded.
Yvette smiled and said thank you.
"Oh, no need to be polite. I lost a bet and now have to be your errand boy for three months." Christopher waved his hand, revealing nothing about Mr. Grant’s arrangement.
He did the work, so naturally, he took the credit.
"Don’t worry about it." Yvette quickly waved her hand, speaking softly. "Mr. Grant will forget about this in a few days."
"My ears aren’t deaf." Ethan Grant tapped on the desk from where he sat.
Yvette giggled, took a sip of the milk, it was sweet; seemed like some sugar was added, but just a little, perfectly balanced.
"Mr. Grant told me to buy milk with a hint of sweetness, said you might like it." Under Ethan’s sinister gaze, Christopher finally admitted the milk was bought by Ethan.
Yvette was a bit flattered, glanced at Ethan, and softly said, "Thank you..."
"I’m heading to a meeting, send the desert project details to my computer, encrypt the files." Ethan reminded her.
Yvette was taken aback; Ethan really trusted her, but isn’t this typically the secretary’s task?
Ethan had not touched Secretary Ziegler yet, but he was gradually sidelining him.
Yvette understood that when she’s temporarily able to take over Secretary Ziegler’s duties, Ethan would move against him.
Secretary Ziegler likely had sensed this as well.
This person needs to be cautious.
"Mr. Grant..." Yvette sat in front of Ethan’s computer, glancing at the powered-on device.
Ethan just reached the door and turned back, "Hmm?"
"The computer..." Yvette was a bit unsure.
When she was incarcerated, computer systems hadn’t upgraded so rapidly, but while in prison, they had to learn computer maintenance. She was always bright, quick to grasp applications related to computer programs.
Though not professional, Yvette had a fellow inmate, an elder sister, who was a hacker and ended up in prison for unlawfully hacking into a financial system causing massive company losses.
Initially, this sister joined others in bullying Yvette, but eventually, Yvette spoke for her, earning the elder’s favor, who then taught her many things.
"You don’t know how to use it?" Ethan thought she couldn’t use his computer and came back to guide her.
"No..." Yvette shook her head, invoking the task manager with CTRL+ALT+DEL, expertly checking for suspicious processes.
Ethan stood by Yvette’s side, smiled in surprise.
"Mr. Grant, this..." Yvette pointed out the peculiarly named process. "Did you launch any suspicious programs?"
Ethan’s computer might have been illegally infiltrated.
Ethan’s face darkened, looking at Christopher. "Call Zane Quinn."
Zane Quinn was an expert hacker.
Yvette opened the system log and indeed found unauthorized access and other visits unrelated to Ethan.
"Mr. Grant, check quickly for any missing important files." Yvette panicked a bit. "Call the police."
"No rush, let’s play along." Ethan glanced at the time. "Christopher, inform the meeting is canceled, reschedule for the afternoon, say I need to finalize the desert project’s progress urgently this morning."
Christopher nodded.
Clearly, Ethan had already guessed the perpetrator.
"Enter the project proposal." Ethan instructed Yvette to input the final draft into the computer.
Yvette was a bit scared, "Mr. Grant... this is too risky."
"No worries, we have alternative plans." Ethan tousled Yvette’s hair.
Her sharp vigilance... is heart-wrenching.
If she was a wealthy heiress sheltered in comfort, she’d never be so alertly perceptive.
Ethan knew Yvette always maintained a vigilance toward everyone and everything, never truly opened her heart.
Yvette bit the corner of her lip, her ears reddening a bit, and diligently entered the files.
Zane arrived at the company in twenty minutes, disguised as a delivery guy, made his way to the office.
"Hey, when did you hire a cute new assistant?" Zane casually placed the delivery nearby and playfully nudged Ethan.
"Behave, don’t scare her." Ethan frowned, warning Zane.
Yvette nervously watched Zane, subconsciously distancing herself; this man seemed a bit odd.
Zane realized this was... Ethan’s hidden precious "beauty." "Hi sister-in-law, I’m Zane Quinn."
Yvette stuttered, "Ah, ah?"
What sister-in-law... Isn’t her relationship with Ethan supposed to be secret?
"Told you not to frighten her." Ethan frowned displeasedly.
Zane nodded. "Figured who the opponent is?"
"The most crucial lately is the desert project, apart from Jayden Grant, no one else." Ethan’s voice was low.
"Alright, then let’s create something he’d be interested in, make a new file." Zane raised his brows, plugged his USB into the computer. "To catch big fish, we have to hack his computer without him realizing."
"I wouldn’t know what interests him." Ethan frowned, a bit agitated.
"Just... just put my name on the file..." Yvette hesitantly suggested, sneaking a glance at Ethan. "Yvette, Yvette Aston."
Zane froze for a moment, not understanding.
"Huh?" Zane turned his head and saw Ethan’s face had darkened.
Dark as though ready to devour someone.
"I’ll, I’ll type it." Yvette moved away from Zane, typing ’Yvette Aston’ on the keyboard, edited the file name, and sent a passport photo over.
Zane glanced back at Ethan again.
Seeing Ethan remain silent, he softly said, "Sister-in-law, will this work?"
Yvette nodded earnestly, "It will, it will work."
She knew Jayden, seeing a file about her on Ethan’s computer, Jayden would definitely open it.
Sure enough.
As soon as the file was edited here, it was downloaded over there.
The file contained a virus.
It could infiltrate the opponent’s computer.
"Ha, amazing." Zane slapped the desk. "It worked."
Zane excitedly looked back at Ethan, hoping for some praise, only to find Ethan’s face darkened as if poised to devour someone.
"What’s funny, keep an eye on him for me." Ethan snapped, face grim.
Zane puzzledly looked from Ethan to Christopher.
"Mr. Grant’s been on edge lately, hormonal issues, mood’s unstable, you’ll get used to it, used to it." Christopher whispered.
Yvette kept her head down, not daring to speak up.
"Come with me." Ethan, face darkened, beckoned Yvette to follow him out.
Christopher was a bit scared, Ethan’s demeanor seemed ready to devour someone, calling Yvette out... he wouldn’t reprimand her, would he?
"Mr. Grant, surely this isn’t Yvette’s fault; she’d never do something like this, why not double-check?" Christopher assumed Ethan suspected Yvette of leaking information, planting a virus on his computer, giving hackers an opportunity.
"Step aside." Ethan brushed off Christopher, feeling very irritable.
"Ethan Grant! Quick, quick, Jayden Grant opened an encrypted file."
Ethan was about to take Yvette to a secluded room for a thorough ’education’ when Zane yelled.
"What’s there to see in Jayden’s encrypted file?" Ethan scanned the computer’s desktop with a heavy face.
It’s alright if unnoticed, but noticing, Ethan’s face darkened further, beyond simply intent on devouring.
But murderous.
