The Grants: Choosing One Between The Two
Chapter 55: Henry Jennings Agrees to a Paternity Test
CHAPTER 55: CHAPTER 55: HENRY JENNINGS AGREES TO A PATERNITY TEST
In the room, everyone was shocked instantly.
This is President Jennings’ woman...
No wonder she didn’t want the eight million. She had a secret child with President Jennings. Eight million? Even a few billion would be easy to get.
"You should leave first." Henry Jennings asked Yvette Aston to go out.
Yvette stared blankly at Henry Jennings. That night... was it really him?
In a panic, Yvette fled the room and hid in the bathroom for a long time, repeatedly washing her face with cold water.
Over the years, she has been tortured by the memories of that night, like a nightmare, corroding her soul.
During the five years in prison, she had nightmares almost every night, dreaming of someone reaching out to touch her randomly and then dragging her to hell.
She hated herself for not staying conscious that night, hated herself for sinking together with the drug in the wine.
What Yvette couldn’t accept the most was that night she gave up on resisting, feeling nauseated by herself.
She was catering to the other party.
"Yvette, are you okay?" Seeing Yvette return with wet hair, Xiaoya asked softly.
Yvette shook her head.
"The HR department asked you to fill out personal information. Please fill it out."
Yvette took the information form, glanced at it, and took a deep breath.
The questionnaire was too detailed, even asking if she was single.
In the name section, Yvette was about to write her name but after thinking for a while, she wrote Shannon Summers instead.
The name Yvette had followed her for over twenty years; the first twenty years were full of pride, but the last few years were full of shame.
The Aston Family hated her but wouldn’t let her go. She had been expelled from the Aston Family, and keeping this name had no meaning.
Everything that needed to be filled in was completed, and Yvette handed the form back to Xiaoya.
"Shannon, that surname sounds nice."
Yvette just smiled, saying nothing.
She stayed at the front desk until ten o’clock at night, and when the night shift personnel arrived, Yvette could leave.
"Holly is drinking with clients today, so she won’t go back with you."
Yvette nodded, planning to go home by herself.
After changing clothes, Yvette walked outside the door and hesitated for a long time. She still planned to wait and see when Henry Jennings would leave.
She wanted to ask him clearly.
Sitting behind the parking lot’s reserved spot, Yvette curled up her legs in a daze.
She had escaped and had no money to buy a mobile phone. Holly mentioned having an old phone, but she hadn’t had the chance to get a phone card yet.
The business association’s banquet was coming soon. If she continued to stay here, it would be very dangerous, but if she didn’t, she couldn’t ask Holly to take her in. After all, she promised to help Holly, and the club is lacking personnel now.
"President Jennings, everything at the club has been arranged, rest assured, nothing will go wrong." The assistant followed behind Henry Jennings, helping him open the car door.
The club’s several leaders accompanied him with smiles, seeing Henry Jennings off into the car.
It was evident that Henry Jennings’ identity was one they feared.
Yvette hid behind the curb by the car, nervously peeking through. With so many people around, she dared not show herself.
Henry Jennings got into the car and glanced in the rearview mirror, spotting a fluffy head buried in legs, huddled silently behind the car.
The assistant was about to drive, but Henry Jennings spoke in a deep voice. "You should get out."
The assistant paused for a moment. "President, aren’t you leaving?"
"I’ll drive back myself." Henry Jennings got out of the car, signaling the assistant that he could leave.
Several managers also glanced at Henry Jennings.
"Send them all back." Henry Jennings frowned, disliking such grand receptions.
The managers exchanged glances and left with the assistant.
Once the parking lot was empty, Henry Jennings leaned against the car door smoking.
Yvette hid behind for a while, stretched her neck to peek, and quickly hid again when she saw Henry Jennings glance over.
Henry Jennings’ expression was somewhat amused, as if waiting to see what Yvette intended to do.
Summoning her courage, Yvette got up and walked over with her head down. "President..."
"Is there something you need?" Henry Jennings looked at Yvette with a meaningful gaze.
"Was it you... six years ago." Yvette asked softly, head lowered.
Henry Jennings scrutinized Yvette carefully. Now, if she were in a crowd, he might not even spare her a second glance.
The woman who once dazzled him as the shining white swan on stage was not the timid, dusty humble ugly duckling standing before him.
It could be said that ruining a person is really easy, seemingly taking as little as five years.
"Who do you hope it was?" Henry Jennings asked.
Henry Jennings was aware of everything about Yvette.
Five years ago, he indeed had thoughts of bringing that white swan home.
However, at that time, Yvette was too proud.
She refused to bow, so he could only wait to see her lose her sharp edges and shed her pride.
Yvette said nothing. Hope?
She hoped nothing happened that night, but it’s unrealistic.
"If I tell you it was me, what will you do, blackmail, threaten, or call the police?" Henry Jennings asked with deep meaning.
Yvette lowered her head even further. "None of those..."
She hadn’t blackmailed or extorted money from Stellan Aston and Jayden Grant. They falsely accused her.
But no one would believe her.
Her eyes reddened slightly as Yvette looked up at Henry Jennings. "I don’t want anything... If it’s you, can I ask you to do a paternity test with Summers..."
Henry Jennings looked at Yvette’s eyes and frowned.
This woman indeed continually exceeded his limits.
"Summers is sick, needing a father’s cooperation for tests." Yvette hurriedly explained, afraid Henry Jennings might misunderstand. "I don’t want to use the child... to fight for anything, definitely not."
Henry Jennings extinguished the cigarette butt and threw it into the trash bin, opening the car door. "Get in the car."
Yvette stood still, uneasy, uncertain if Henry Jennings agreed.
"What sickness?" Henry Jennings asked, seeing Yvette remain in place.
"Hemolytic anemia." Yvette spoke softly.
Henry Jennings was silent for a long time before speaking. "Why do I have to help you?"
Yvette paused, biting her lip as if struggling for a long time. "What can I do..."
For her son, she could do anything.
Reputation? She didn’t care about that anymore.
"Stay with me for three years, and I’ll take responsibility for the child’s sickness." Henry Jennings said, seemingly waiting for her response.
Yvette just stood there blankly, looking somewhat lost.
If it was the Yvette from six years ago, she would have directly refused Henry Jennings’ words.
Back then, Yvette was always proud, seemingly never to bow even if it broke her spine.
But now, her head hung too low.
"I’ll check the paternity test first." Yvette wasn’t foolish. She first needed to confirm if Henry Jennings was actually Summers’ biological father.
Henry Jennings raised an eyebrow, a smile on his lips. "Alright, I’m ready anytime."
Yvette’s tense heart remained suspended in her chest.
Henry Jennings wouldn’t randomly recognize a child as his. It was likely him that night.
"Get in the car. I’ll take you back."
Yvette shook her head. "No, it’s fine."
"Afraid I’ll eat you?" Henry Jennings looked at Yvette with a deep gaze.
Yvette said nothing.
"Leave a contact. Surely you wouldn’t want me searching everywhere?" Henry Jennings handed over his phone.
Yvette was stunned, lowered her head, and didn’t move.
She didn’t have a phone...
