The Grants: Choosing One Between The Two
Chapter 63: Ethan Grant Publicly Defends Yvette Aston
CHAPTER 63: CHAPTER 63: ETHAN GRANT PUBLICLY DEFENDS YVETTE ASTON
The Nightfall Club.
Yvette was doing a shift change, getting ready to leave work.
Henry Jennings sent her a WeChat message, asking her to wait at the club.
"Yvette, President Jennings is entertaining guests here soon, could you say some nice things on our behalf?" The manager came over, saying with a smile.
Yvette had social anxiety and would instinctively hide when she saw people.
The manager didn’t mind and was very friendly with Yvette.
"Who is Yvette?" Outside the door, a few bodyguards in black escorted a woman inside.
The woman was wearing sunglasses, high heels, a tight leather mini skirt, and a Chanel jacket. In such cold weather, she looked particularly beautiful and captivating.
When the woman took off her sunglasses and the bodyguards cleared the area, the manager finally recognized who she was.
Lynn Chase!
The manager secretly thought it wasn’t good, his heart skipping a beat.
"Are you Yvette?" Lynn walked up to Xiaoya and asked.
Xiaoya was so scared that she shook her head repeatedly.
Lynn surveyed everyone and finally asked the manager, "Bring Yvette out."
Apparently, she didn’t think Yvette was the type Henry Jennings would be interested in.
Yvette was standing in the corner, almost burying her head in the dust. She habitually hunched her shoulders, not daring to stand straight.
Because in jail all those years, she was beaten so much that she became afraid, so she hunched her shoulders to better protect herself.
The manager looked nervously at Yvette. They still didn’t understand the situation — whether President Jennings and Lynn were over, they didn’t know either.
President Jennings was probably just temporarily infatuated with Yvette, but Lynn had been with him for three years.
In terms of relationship depth, it was certainly deeper with Lynn and President Jennings.
"Deaf? Who is Yvette." Lynn asked impatiently.
The manager weighed the pros and cons and pointed to Yvette in the corner. "She’s the one. Do you have something with her?"
Lynn looked at Yvette with surprise, walked over, and pinched Yvette’s chin to take a closer look. "Are you Yvette?"
A face full of shock and disbelief. "Is President Jennings blind?"
Yvette didn’t speak and took a step back, continuing to lower her head.
Lynn grinded her teeth. She had come aggressively, intending to hit someone, but seeing Yvette like this... she hadn’t even acted yet, and the other person already looked aggrieved — a real expert!
"No, are you sure she’s Yvette? The one Henry Jennings personally brings breakfast to?" Lynn suspiciously asked again.
The manager quickly nodded.
Lynn was shocked, once again checking Yvette from head to toe. "Did you and Henry Jennings... sleep together? He’s not into your type."
Yvette remained silent, her head lowered, as if she wanted to bury herself.
"Heh... I thought it was some fairy, turns out, having too much delicacy, he now fancies plainness?" Lynn muttered, initially wanting to see what she lost to, but seeing Yvette like this, she was clearly disappointed.
"With you, competing with me for a man?" Lynn pushed Yvette.
Yvette fearfully stepped back, failed to stand steady, and fell to the ground.
Lynn was shocked, an expert indeed...
She hadn’t even touched her yet!
Why isn’t this acting in a drama?
Lynn’s bodyguards came over and grabbed Yvette.
"Don’t touch me..." Yvette reflexively curled up, clutching her head and hiding under a low cabinet.
Lynn was startled by Yvette’s reaction.
The bodyguards also frowned and stepped back.
Lynn looked closely at Yvette, then at the manager, "What’s with her...?"
The manager quickly smoothed things over. "Yvette is just timid."
"Yvette!"
Receiving Xiaoya’s SOS message, Holly Ziegler rushed downstairs, shielding Yvette. "Miss Chase, don’t trouble her. She has PTSD and severe depression. If anything happens to her because of you, President Jennings wouldn’t let it slide."
Holly felt uneasy, but she had to invoke Henry Jennings.
Lynn looked at Yvette in surprise. "Henry Jennings lately... likes this kind of type?"
Holly shielded Yvette and spoke again. "President Jennings doesn’t like trouble. You know the rules, don’t provoke his people."
Lynn sneered. "I just wanted to see who was competing with me for a man, that’s all."
Turns out, it’s a mental patient.
Yvette’s face was pale. She wasn’t afraid of Lynn, but of Lynn’s bodyguards.
Back then... Claudia Bell brought bodyguards to trap her in an alley. If not for Caden Summers arriving in time, she would’ve been...
Since then, whenever more than two men approached, Yvette would have an episode — shortness of breath, whole body trembling, unable to utter a word.
"Yvette, it’s okay now." Holly, knowing Yvette’s condition, crouched outside the low cabinet to gently reassure her. "It’s okay now, can you come out?"
Holly spent two and a half years in prison. During that time, Yvette attempted suicide countless times. In the end, the prison guards feared something might happen and sent her for over a dozen MECT treatments. Every time she returned from treatment, Yvette seemed like a lifeless corpse, devoid of a soul, with empty eyes, sometimes not even recognizing herself.
Back then, Holly didn’t understand what MECT treatment entailed.
After leaving prison, Holly looked up the treatment and cried for a long time, covering her mouth.
It’s a form of electroconvulsive therapy, basically using electric shocks to numb the body to temporarily forget some of its pain, reducing suicidal tendencies.
But with too many treatments, whether or not the painful memories disappeared is unknown. Yvette became more and more numb, turning silent, mute, and during severe times couldn’t even manage her basic life.
She became forgetful, prone to forgetting things, often getting reprimanded by fellow inmates.
The guards also bullied her.
In short, that was Yvette’s hell.
A hell created by those who once loved her and whom she loved.
"Stop pretending, I didn’t even touch you." Lynn felt Yvette was exaggerating. "You’re wasting your acting skills by not being an actress. Would Henry Jennings really fall for this act, pretending to be weak?"
Her bodyguard barely touched her, is it necessary?
"Miss Chase, don’t casually remark on others. If you knew what she’s been through, you wouldn’t say that." Holly’s eyes reddened, she looked back at Yvette. "Yvette, come out. She won’t hurt you."
Lynn opened her mouth but didn’t speak.
Yvette curled up in the corner, the corner was her only sense of security.
Probably, from hiding under the table during her time in prison, she grew accustomed to it.
"Get your bodyguards out, don’t crowd here." Holly asked Lynn to take her bodyguards away.
Lynn had brought a lot of people with her in a domineering fashion. Not just Yvette, even Holly was scared.
Lynn sneered, put on her sunglasses, and left with disinterest.
"Check out that Yvette for me, see what’s wrong with her."
The bodyguard was also curious; the woman’s fear didn’t seem faked.
Not long after Lynn and the bodyguards left, Ethan Grant and Christopher Carter entered the club.
"Mr. Grant?" The manager quickly greeted him. "Here for President Jennings? This way, please."
Ethan Grant frowned and walked over to Holly.
Holly instinctively shielded Yvette. "Mr. Grant... Yvette was a bit frightened."
Ethan Grant seemed used to Yvette hiding in corners when scared.
That day at the Grant Family’s old house, she was hiding behind the curtain in the corner.
"How long do you want to hide?" Ethan Grant crouched in front of Yvette and asked.
Yvette bit her finger, looked at Ethan Grant for a moment, then lowered her head again.
Ethan Grant reached his hand out to Yvette. "Come out, I’m here, no one dares to touch you."
Yvette blankly looked at Ethan Grant, her eyes a little hot.
