Chapter 21: Come Hit Me
CHAPTER 21: CHAPTER 21: COME HIT ME
Everyone in the private room was shocked. It was long rumored that the chairman of VastReach Group indeed had an only daughter. At first, Skylar Hughes was always by Jared Sullivan’s side, so everyone thought she was the one.
But Jared Sullivan seemed to mind people misunderstanding this, so whenever someone said Skylar was his daughter, he would always clarify.
Later, everyone found out that Skylar was just Jared’s stepdaughter, and the real Sterling Family heiress was very mysterious, seemingly never interacting with anyone in this circle.
Who would have thought that she was actually Paige Sterling, the teenage superstar who became famous all over the country!?
She wasn’t just a woman they couldn’t mess with; she was also someone they couldn’t afford to play with.
No wonder the male celebrity Seth Shaw had such a miserable ending.
Mess with the heiress of VastReach Group? That’s a death wish!
"Miss Sterling, what brings you here?"
"Well, here’s the thing," Paige said seriously. "I’ve quit the entertainment industry, you all know that, right?"
"...Yes, we do."
"Oh dear, I’m just too talented. Kids in our position are always compared to their fathers. I don’t want anyone telling my dad that I’ve embarrassed him, so I’m planning to start my own business."
"So what does that have to do with us?"
"But I have no money."
"..." Then go ask your father.
"But I’m a self-respecting rich kid. I can’t ask my dad for money. I have to be independent, so I came to you guys."
Everyone looked dumbfounded. "I have a guaranteed-to-profit project. I hope to take you all along with me on this money-making venture. Am I loyal or what?"
Everyone, "...You want us to give you money?"
Seeing Paige’s displeased expression, they quickly corrected, "No, no, invest, invest. You mean you want us to invest?"
Paige nodded.
"So how much do you want us to invest?"
A few million would be no issue for them. If they could build good relations with the VastReach heiress with a few million, they’d surely be rewarded by their families.
But then they heard Paige say, "Two million each, to start."
Everyone nearly choked on their drink. She said it so casually, as if two million were just wilted lettuce.
"Miss Sterling, isn’t two million a bit much?"
"To ordinary people, it might be, but not to you guys, right? What’s two million? You guys aren’t reluctant to work with me, are you?"
"No, we’re more than willing, but..."
Before they could finish, the door to the private room was pushed open again, and a young man walked in.
Someone immediately stood up and shouted, "Young Master Langdon is here."
Paige looked over and saw a young man walk in.
It was an old acquaintance of hers, Angus Langdon, from Austin Xavier’s group.
To add to the awkwardness, Paige and he shared a bit of a grudge.
After entering, Angus threw his suit jacket to the side and squinted as he asked Paige, "Paige, what are you doing here?"
Paige replied, "Just hanging out and having fun."
Angus chuckled, clearly not believing her.
Someone next to him leaned in and filled him in on the backstory.
After listening, Angus gave Paige a strange look.
Paige was known for her unpredictable behavior, and who knew if her sudden talk of starting a business and seeking investments was part of some ulterior motive.
"The Eldest Miss Sterling, are you running short of money recently?"
Paige glanced at Angus.
Angus let out a malicious laugh.
"Do you see these drinks on the table? If you can finish them all, we’ll each invest two million. How about that?"
Paige glanced at the table, "Is your two million an investment or a gift to me?"
Angus raised an eyebrow.
Paige said, "If it’s an investment, two million is too little; as a gift, it’s no problem."
Angus, "Then it’s a gift."
Paige didn’t waste any more words and started downing the drinks, her bold demeanor leaving everyone in awe.
Angus watched as she polished off bottle after bottle and sent a message to Austin Xavier, even attaching a video of Paige drinking.
"Bro, I’m helping you teach this girl a lesson."
He knew Austin and Paige had a beef, though he didn’t know why, but judging by how Austin turned particularly gloomy whenever it involved Paige, he figured it must be serious.
So he thought Austin would be pleased with this sight.
But Austin replied with a voice message, sounding like he was gritting his teeth.
"Who the hell asked you to stand up for me? Where the hell are you? Send me your location!"
Angus, "...??"
Is this guy out of his mind? Doesn’t he dislike Paige? Shouldn’t he be happy that I’m doing this?
When Paige actually finished all the drinks on the table, the way everyone in the room looked at her changed.
She was unfazed after drinking; this was a tough cookie.
Angus saw that Paige didn’t make a scene after drinking, found it boring, and said nothing.
Paige called to everyone, "I’ve finished the drinks. Come over and take your money, chop-chop."
What could they do with someone like her?
She was not someone to be easily offended.
A crowd gathered to sign the papers.
Angus noticed Paige didn’t ask him to sign, so he asked, "I don’t need to sign?"
Paige, "Of course not. Their two million is an investment in me; I calculate their shares. Yours is a gift to me. Has Young Master Langdon forgotten what he just said?"
Angus doubted Paige’s capability to achieve anything big, so he never thought investing two million in her would pay off. Still, her attitude of wanting to distance herself from him annoyed him greatly.
He wrote a check for two million on the spot and threw it at Paige, "Here you go."
After handing over the check, he sneered at Paige, "You think you can start a business and make money like this? Paige, how naive can you be?"
"If I can make everyone it with me make money, will you call me grandpa then?"
Angus, "If you really have that ability, calling you grandpa? Sure, I’ll even call you ancestor."
Paige squinted her eyes, "Don’t forget what you said. I’ll be waiting for you to call me grandpa, grandson."
Angus thought Paige was infuriatingly arrogant and wanted to punch her.
A young man, seeing the hostile atmosphere between them, quickly stepped in to mediate.
"The Eldest Miss Sterling, what kind of company do you plan to open? We investors ought to know, right?"
"Yeah, what kind of venture requires so much money?"
Word had it Paige had been raiding clubs for two nights straight.
At two million a person, that amounted to billions. If she weren’t the VastReach heiress, they’d think she was running a financing scam.
Paige straightforwardly said, "Alright then, since you’re my shareholders, letting you know is no big deal."
Paige pointed to a young man, "You, come over and hit me, then I’ll tell you."
