The Headline Queen: President Hawthorne is Her Die-Hard Fan!
Chapter 22: Who Are You
CHAPTER 22: CHAPTER 22: WHO ARE YOU
The young man immediately stepped back, "No, no, no, I’m afraid of electricity."
"I won’t shock you, I’m not doing anything this time," Paige promised.
"I don’t hit women either."
Paige looked at the others, who were also hesitant.
Paige, "Angus, you do it."
Angus looked wary, "What are you up to now?"
He looked like Paige was going to scheme against him, given that she’d done it before when they were kids.
Back then, she looked like a doll, and all the adults adored her, even Angus’s parents favored her and let her play with Angus’s toys.
Angus wasn’t happy and went to take his toys back, but he didn’t do anything to Paige.
Paige then pretended to cry, claiming he bullied her, almost getting him in trouble with his own parents.
Their feud started that way, and now being asked to hit Paige, he was actually quite willing. While others treated Paige like a woman, he didn’t.
She’s a menace, was a little menace when younger, now a big menace.
"Angus, why are you so cowardly? I’m letting you hit me, yet you don’t dare. Can you grow up a bit? Do you really think you can hit me? Why are you overthinking it?"
Angus was provoked and infuriated.
Seeing that he actually intended to hit Paige, the others quickly stopped him.
Angus was fuming, "Didn’t you hear? She asked me to hit her!"
"But you can’t really hit her!"
Paige taunted, "Let him go, he won’t dare to hit me."
Angus yelled and broke free, charging towards Paige.
He only intended to scare Paige, not really hit her.
If he did hit Paige, Jared would surely confront his parents.
But to intimidate Paige, his hand did touch her.
Out of nowhere, as soon as he touched Paige, pieces of armor suddenly covered her body, like special effects.
His hand merely brushed her, without much force, yet he was instantly repelled.
Angus, "...!!"
Others, "...!!"
Holy crap, what is this?
Is this Ultraman or Armor Warrior?
Everyone thought they were seeing things.
Paige started explaining, "This item is just the most basic product I’m developing. Its function is quite simple. To date, its most significant feature is self-protection. It automatically activates protective functions when a person encounters danger, reducing harm in an accident or assault. Of course, the amount of funding determines its capabilities. With enough money, I can improve its functions by a hundredfold. I hope one day this product will become essential self-defense equipment for every soldier and even every ordinary citizen when they go out."
"My company won’t just focus on developing self-defense gear. It covers all electronic product fields, mainly high-intelligence and high-tech. It might extend into other domains in the future. If you invest in me, it won’t be a loss, truly."
Paige proceeded to demonstrate other functions.
This equipment is very convenient to carry. Once the defense armor is activated, whatever material it uses makes it impervious to blades and bullets, surpassing bulletproof vests by a hundred times.
Everyone, "..."
This is not just a non-loss deal. If Paige truly developed something like this, it could be a huge hit in the future, right?
If Paige had revealed her prowess sooner, there wouldn’t have been any need for coercion. They would have willingly offered their money.
"Wow, Paige, you really treat us like your own. From now on, bro will stick with you."
"Paige, you’re really impressive. How did you make this? I studied tech development in college too, but I didn’t learn any of this!"
The previously nonchalant group of rich kids now surrounded Paige, calling her "sis," nearly putting her on a pedestal.
Angus looked depressed.
"Paige, this gear is really impressive. I think investing twenty million is too little. Can you give me a set of this gear first? I’ll show it to my dad at home and maybe get some investment from him."
Paige was very generous, "I’ll give you this set first, but it’s made to my measurements, so it might be a bit tight on you."
"No problem, no problem, just give it to me."
Paige unbuckled the belt and handed it to the young man.
The young man was bewildered holding the belt.
Just this little gadget? How did it fit all those sturdy pieces of armor?
Seeing him hesitate, the others urged him, "Hurry up and strap it on and test it."
The young man put it on, eager to try out its features. The belt’s defense function could be triggered automatically or manually.
He pressed the mechanism, and sure enough, the armor came out.
A group surrounded him, examining it thoroughly, while Paige had already left.
Angus thought Paige was foolish. Did she patent such high-tech yet? It hasn’t even been released, and she’s already given it away. Isn’t she worried others will study it and release it before her?
Paige left the private room and saw Julian at the bar from that night.
His eyes were fixed on the staircase, and as soon as Paige stepped out, their eyes met.
Paige was a bit surprised and walked up to Julian.
"Julian, why are you here again?"
Julian’s response was brief.
"Passing by."
Paige, "..."
Would it kill him to admit he came to pick her up? These reserved and stubborn fans are really troublesome.
"Oh, I thought you came to see your brother again," Paige sounded indifferent, "I’m leaving now."
She staggered slightly, her steps seemed unsteady, and Julian reached out to steady her elbow.
"Did you drink?"
"I drank, but I’m not drunk. They thought a few bottles could take me down? Impossible. I’m never drunk!"
She claimed not to be drunk, and she looked like she wasn’t, but Julian knew Paige was drunk.
She usually appeared distant and cool, but now she seemed more confused and adorable.
"I’ll support you."
Paige shook off Julian’s hand, "I don’t want your help. I don’t lean on anyone. I’ll lean on the wall myself."
After that, she just walked away.
Julian silently followed alongside her. The two walked out of the club, one ahead and one behind, their shadows stretched long, occasionally intertwining like entwined lovers.
Austin drove over in a rush, just in time to see Paige exiting the club.
A step behind her, a man followed, causing Austin to frown and stop his car at the roadside.
"Paige!"
He ran towards Paige, still in a bathrobe, hair damp and apparently hurried, not paying attention to his attire.
He reached out to grab Paige, but Julian blocked him.
Austin’s expression turned cold, "Who are you? What do you want?"
