The Headline Queen: President Hawthorne is Her Die-Hard Fan!
Chapter 44: Skewer Party
CHAPTER 44: CHAPTER 44: SKEWER PARTY
Dylan Dunn walked up to Paige Sterling, neither yelling nor making things difficult for her. Instead, he bowed politely.
His voice was firm and sincere, "Miss Sterling, I’m sorry for having offended you before. I’m sincerely apologizing now, and I hope you won’t hold it against me."
Skylar Hughes was dumbfounded. Was Dylan out of his mind, apologizing to Paige?
Is he crazy?
Paige shot Dylan a bland look, "Could you move aside? You’re blocking my view."
Dylan immediately stepped aside but looked at Paige full of hope, "Miss Sterling, have you forgiven me?"
His dad had thoroughly looked into the grudges between him and Paige, ultimately pointing out that he was simply used as a pawn by Skylar.
Skylar was not even a proper daughter of the Sterling Family, just a stepdaughter not on their household register.
Even though she knew Paige’s real status, she never mentioned it to Dylan, intentionally misleading him just to create trouble for Paige—truly a cunning diva.
Dylan was brainwashed by his dad for several days and gradually felt his dad made sense.
So he came to apologize to Paige.
Seeing how Jared Sullivan favored Paige so much, if she were to speak well of him, maybe The Dunn Family could still secure the cooperation project.
When Paige saw that Dylan wouldn’t leave until she forgave him, she said, "Don’t worry, I won’t bother to argue with someone so foolish."
Being called a fool, normally anyone would get angry, right?
But Dylan didn’t; his tone remained extremely reverent, "Thank you, Miss Sterling, for being so magnanimous."
Skylar Hughes, "...", almost thought she was hallucinating.
Was Dylan really crazy? Paige insulted him, and he accepted it?
Skylar’s cheeks twitched uncontrollably. She had no idea what had happened between them, but this was not the outcome she wanted to see.
She stood up, walked to them with a smile, "Paige, Dylan, I’m so glad to see things smoothing out between you two."
Initially, Paige and Dylan didn’t have such a good nor a terrible relationship; Dylan targeted Paige because of Skylar’s influence.
Now Skylar stepped in to say this, claiming the credit for being the good guy.
For the first time, Dylan realized how devious Skylar was. He used to think his cousin was jealous and deliberately belittling Skylar, but now he understood; women’s insights about each other are indeed the sharpest.
Once the rose-tinted glasses were removed, Dylan saw that Skylar was just an ordinary being, nothing appealing about her anymore.
He said, "Miss Hughes, this matter is between Miss Sterling and me; it doesn’t concern you, does it?"
One moment ago a suitor, the next a cold stranger.
Man’s love is like a bowl full of tears.
Skylar was utterly embarrassed, "Dylan, you..."
Before she could finish her pitiful expression, Dylan decisively said, "Rest assured, I know you don’t like me. I won’t bother you anymore!"
Then he left.
Skylar, "..."
Her expression frozen in disbelief that Dylan would treat her like this.
She didn’t care for Dylan and didn’t even see him as significant.
But she enjoyed being adored by him; she didn’t cherish it, yet couldn’t stand the idea of him losing interest.
She suddenly looked at Paige, "Paige, what did you tell Dylan?"
Skylar looked pitiful, as if she and Dylan were mutual romantics and Paige was the intruder.
"What a joke, that has absolutely nothing to do with me."
Paige couldn’t be bothered to acknowledge Skylar, pretending she didn’t exist, and continued her meal.
Many witnessed Dylan apologizing to Paige, not just Skylar, but also some of Dylan’s friends.
"Buddy, what’s up with you? Did you not say before you wanted to teach this celebrity a lesson? Now you’re apologizing, doesn’t it hurt to slap yourself in the face?"
Dylan felt a bit awkward, "This Paige Sterling’s background is not simple. You all better not provoke her."
"How so?"
As Dylan didn’t elaborate, a friend suddenly said, "I heard recently that Paige is the daughter of VastReach Group. Is it true?"
Dylan remained silent for a long time, then slowly nodded.
Everyone, "..."
Paige planned to use the 30 million compensation from The Dunn Family to set up her lab first.
The seventeenth floor of Hawthorne Group was office space, and the eighteenth floor, the technology floor, would have a tech lab built as well.
Her true research lab, she intended to directly construct on the island, making it much more convenient.
She had visited the island to find from a local that several islands around, including the shore, had been purchased.
Paige felt a bit regretful; she planned to buy it herself once she had the funds.
Returning to the city, her stomach grumbled a bit, and she decided to grab a bite at a restaurant before heading back, only to bump into Miles Morgan and a group on the street.
This group possessed none of the typical appearances of wealthy heirs, huddling at a street food stall eating skewers.
Seeing Paige, they immediately called her over warmly.
"Paige, join us for some skewers!"
The aroma awakened Paige’s craving, and she walked over.
A few guys quickly grabbed her a chair, "Here, Paige, sit down."
Miles, with great enthusiasm, said, "Paige, this stall has exceptionally good skewers. Order whatever you like, my treat."
Paige ordered a few things, and soon the group peppered her with questions.
Everyone was most concerned about whether Paige had any new tech breakthroughs.
Paige casually mentioned a few, as if discussing how she planted a potato, yet it aroused immense excitement among the youths.
"Paige, why did you get into showbiz anyway? It’s such a waste of your talent. If you started research earlier, our country’s science would be years ahead of others."
Paige chuckled, "Do you think research is easy? Without money, all your ideas go to waste."
Miles asked, "So, did you enter the entertainment industry to fund your research?"
Paige didn’t respond.
Miles’s admiration for Paige soared even higher.
Comparing himself, he felt he wasn’t living as ambitiously as this woman.
No, he had to start striving too; otherwise, when Paige becomes a world-class figure, how dare he call himself her underling?
Meanwhile, Julian Hawthorne was driving past the area. When stopped at a red light, he noticed Paige seated at the street food stall.
She always had that kind of allure that made her stand out instantly among millions to him.
