The Headline Queen: President Hawthorne is Her Die-Hard Fan!
Chapter 558: Going Too Far
CHAPTER 558: CHAPTER 558: GOING TOO FAR
It’s just that her dad thinks Maeve is the only child uncle left in the world, so he indulges Maeve a little and has always tolerated her.
If Maeve was grateful and knew her place, it wouldn’t be a problem, but Maeve takes herself too seriously. She thinks that just because she’s lived with the Yardley Family for so many years, she can fight for the Yardley Family’s assets, and now she’s even starting to trip up her brother and her.
Rhona Yardley couldn’t tolerate that point.
And when Maeve heard Rhona’s words, she just thought Rhona was ungrateful, "Maeve, I really didn’t expect you to be like this, is this really how you view what I’ve given to the Yardley Family? I really feel my efforts were in vain..."
Rhona was not polite at all, "If you think it’s not worth it, then leave the Yardley Family. If you really have that courage, I would respect you as a person of character!"
Maeve immediately replied, "I’ve given so much, why should I leave just because you told me to? Rhona, I’m telling you, I won’t leave the Yardley Family. If I do leave, I’ll take what’s rightfully mine with me."
Rhona wasn’t sure what Maeve thought she owned that belonged to the Yardley Family, and seeing her so self-righteous just made her laugh.
"Maeve, since you can’t bear to leave the Yardley Family, then stop whining about your grievances. No one’s forcing you to stay and be wronged."
The way Maeve was acting now, it was like becoming a prostitute and then wanting to be praised as virtuous.
The few executives in the hospital room had already left when the two sisters began arguing.
These two sisters never got along, and every meeting was a quarrel; they were used to it.
Maeve couldn’t find words for a moment, her expression somewhat twisted.
Rhona continued, "My dad felt sorry for your orphan situation and adopted you, but remember, Maeve, my dad only has two children, me and my brother. You will never be a child of the Yardley Family. If you dare do anything to harm my dad or my brother, I won’t let you off."
When Maeve first arrived at the Yardley Family, Rhona truly cared for her.
But Maeve’s scheming ways eventually led to Rhona developing an intense dislike for her, and they became like fire and water.
Maeve clenched her fists tightly, never admitting that anything she did was wrong; she believed everything she did was right, and she had never wronged anyone.
Rhona had no right to criticize her.
Thinking of this, Maeve suddenly raised her head and said to Rhona, "The cooperation with the Hawthorne Group will continue. I’ll get them to sign the contract. You don’t need to attack me over a minor issue like this."
Rhona wore a confident expression, "Something like this might be difficult for you, Rhona, but for me, Maeve, it’s nothing."
Rhona chuckled, "Maeve, what do you think the Hawthorne Group is? Do you think they’re revolving around you? Can you just do whatever you want? Even if Julian Hawthorne has stepped down from the center of power at the Hawthorne Group, that doesn’t mean you can do whatever you want. If you offend Julian, you’ve offended the entire Hawthorne Group. Even if they agree to continue cooperating with the Yardley Group, the terms won’t be as favorable as before."
This project is dispensable for the Hawthorne Group. Whatever happened, if it was enough for Julian to take action, it means Maeve truly angered Julian.
And sending out Maeve is akin to not giving face to the Hawthorne Group, and the Hawthorne Group is fully justified in refusing to cooperate.
Thinking of the mess Maeve made that would make their dad fret for a while, Rhona was in no mood to keep bickering with Maeve.
She stood up and said coldly, "Maeve, I’ll advise my dad to seriously consider whether your capabilities are up to your current position. You’d better prepare to leave the Yardley Group soon."
"You want uncle to fire me?" Maeve widened her eyes, "Rhona, are you mad? Are you really going to disregard company affairs over our personal grievances? If I’m fired, who else can handle the position? You? Do you even know your own worth to think you can join the company? Do you want to run the Yardley Group into the ground?"
Maeve was fully aware of how much Mr. Yardley adored Rhona, his biological daughter. He never refused any demands Rhona made.
If Rhona were to truly approach Mr. Yardley about having her fired, Mr. Yardley might actually do it just to please his daughter.
It was because Mr. Yardley adored Rhona so much that Maeve was so jealous, wanting to replace Rhona’s place in Mr. Yardley’s heart.
But she never succeeded; no matter what she did, Mr. Yardley was always just polite to her.
No matter how much she contributed to this family, Mr. Yardley never truly appreciated her.
Sometimes Maeve thought it was a waste for her to stay, but she couldn’t leave; how could the Yardley Family manage without her? How could she leave?
She was weighed down by familial ties, which is why she suffered so much.
But what could she do? She was someone who valued relationships and treated the Yardley people as family no matter how they treated her.
Rhona had no clue about the messy thoughts in Maeve’s head and said coldly, "Even if I run the Yardley Group into the ground, so what? Destroying my own home has nothing to do with you, how dare an outsider like you interfere?"
"Am I an outsider? Have I really remained an outsider despite all I’ve given to the Yardley Family?" Maeve looked heartbroken, "Rhona, don’t you have a conscience? Without my contribution, how would the Yardley Family have gotten better? Don’t you think you lack honesty in saying such things?"
Rhona chuckled at her pretentious behavior, "Maeve, do you not understand human language? Even now, you think you’ve brought great merit to the Yardley Group instead of causing trouble for it?"
How could such a shameless person exist in this world?
Why didn’t she claim that the Earth’s rotation was because of her?
"Maeve, can’t you stop overestimating yourself? No one in this world can’t live without someone else. The Yardley’s development is because of my dad and my brother’s efforts. When did it become your achievement? The accomplishments you rely on, do you really think you made them yourself? Without the Yardley Group behind you, do you think people would take you seriously? Remember: the Yardley Group did not achieve because of you; rather, you achieved because of the Yardley Group. Stop trying to bolster your own reputation. Anyway, I don’t feel like wasting words with you. In short, I’m not letting you continue to mess things up in the Yardley Group. I’m going to talk to my dad now."
Maeve panicked, "Rhona! Uncle would never listen to your one-sided words! He wouldn’t act on impulse and fire me. Uncle values talent the most and would find ways to keep me, not let me leave the Yardley Group! You’re wasting your energy!"
"If you think I’m wasting energy and consider yourself a talent, why are you worried? Talents are valued wherever they go. Once you leave the Yardley Group, other companies will surely fight over you."
Seeing Maeve panic cheered Rhona up.
See, you’d brainwashed yourself into believing you were exceptional, but in crucial moments, you still have the self-awareness to know you’re not all that great, which is why you’re scared.
"Uncle would never agree, Rhona you mustn’t bother uncle..."
"I’m my dad’s daughter. Even if he doesn’t agree, I can make him agree. As for bothering him... Haha, my dad is always happy when I visit him..."
With that, Rhona opened the door, and Maeve suddenly shouted, "Even a clay statue has some temper. Rhona, don’t push me too far!"
Rhona, "I didn’t do anything to you, and you already think I’m being excessive, that I’m bullying you. You keep complaining to my dad and blackening my name everywhere. Since that’s so, I might as well live up to the reputation of bullying you. It wouldn’t be an injustice to you then."
With that, Rhona left, no longer paying any attention to Maeve.
