The Headline Queen: President Hawthorne is Her Die-Hard Fan!
Chapter 58: Understandable
CHAPTER 58: CHAPTER 58: UNDERSTANDABLE
Paige Sterling merely glanced at her, without responding, intending to go inside.
Mrs. Wright hurriedly blocked her path.
"Miss Sterling, what do you mean? I’ve already apologized to you, don’t be too excessive."
"You apologize to me, so I must forgive you? Not forgiving means being excessive?" Paige said expressionlessly, "Your apology is quite sincere, isn’t it? Do you think the world revolves around you?"
Yvette Hughes and Skylar Hughes had already come outside.
Skylar Hughes tried to persuade, "Paige, Mrs. Wright has apologized to you and knows her mistake. As people say, when possible to forgive, one should forgive. Don’t be too excessive."
Paige took no notice of Mrs. Wright. She was very busy and had no time to pay attention to irrelevant people. To Skylar Hughes, this made her appear unforgiving.
Seeing Paige remain silent, Skylar Hughes continued, "Even if Mrs. Wright spoke carelessly, it was harmless to you, causing no damage. However, Mrs. Wright’s family’s business has been greatly affected because of it. Do you really want to push someone to the brink of despair before stopping? Don’t you find yourself selfish and wicked?"
Paige looked at Skylar Hughes, "Why don’t you dare say these things to my dad?"
Skylar Hughes, "..."
Yvette Hughes responded, "Paige, with your dad’s personality, how can we dare speak in front of him?"
"So, you dare to say it in front of me because I’m mild-mannered, right? If my personality is so pleasant, how could I trouble Mrs. Wright?"
Everyone was at a loss for words.
Paige then spoke mockingly, "A father must teach a lesson to those who speak rudely without any morality for his daughter. What can I do? Should I refuse my father’s good intentions for an outsider?"
Yvette Hughes and Skylar Hughes, "..."
Paige’s gaze also fell on Yvette Hughes, "Aunt, I advise you to stop associating with that Mrs. Wright."
Then she looked at Skylar Hughes, "And you, do you really think my dad doesn’t know who spread those rumors about me? Instead of worrying about Mrs. Wright, you’d better worry about yourself. My dad can be terrifying when he denies his own family."
Who knows what Skylar Hughes was thinking, spreading rumors about Paige just to flatter herself? What good did she think she’d gain?
All it did was anger Jared Sullivan, gradually challenging his limits.
Skylar Hughes’ heart sank after hearing Paige’s words.
Paige then stated, "Skylar Hughes, in this household, it’s far from your turn to direct me. My tolerance is my dad’s tolerance, take care of yourself."
Paige returned to the Sterling Family home to get some things and left again.
After some thought, she called Jared Sullivan.
In a father’s mind, a daughter will always be vulnerable. Jared Sullivan didn’t know what he was imagining.
However, Paige underestimated her father’s ability to jump to conclusions; the call only made Jared feel more guilty.
How much has his daughter suffered alone to become so sensible?
Jared shed a few tears in the office, accidentally witnessed by Secretary Shaw, making him almost drop his jaw.
Paige’s words continued to trouble Skylar Hughes.
Skylar Hughes could only console herself, believing that with her capabilities, Jared Sullivan would never abandon her despite Paige.
After all, talented people are hard to find these days, and Jared must consider the company’s wellbeing.
But when she arrived at the company to swipe her entrance card, she found the card beeping, indicating a failed swipe.
Skylar Hughes looked at it puzzlingly, confirming it was the company entrance card, and swiped several more times.
Still, the same result.
At this moment, Secretary Shaw swiped his card intending to enter.
Skylar Hughes said, "Secretary Shaw, my card seems to have a problem; could you help me swipe it so I can go in first?"
Secretary Shaw maintained a polite smile, "Miss Hughes, I’m sorry, I cannot help with this."
"Secretary Shaw, you must be kidding. There’s a meeting this afternoon, and I need to help dad organize some materials. Let me in quickly."
"Miss Hughes need not worry; someone else will take over your work, and you won’t need to be concerned about it in the future."
Skylar Hughes had a bad premonition, "Secretary Shaw, what do you mean? You know how crucial my job is, how can you let an outsider simply do it?"
"This is President Sterling’s decision," Secretary Shaw stated, "I’m now formally notifying Miss Hughes that you have been fired."
"Fire me? You have the authority to fire me?" Skylar Hughes reacted as if hearing a joke, "Secretary Shaw, you think being my dad’s secretary allows you to make decisions without consulting him? Have you asked for his opinion before daring to fire me?"
"I’ve already said, this is President Sterling’s decision."
Skylar Hughes’ heart chilled.
Jared Sullivan fired her?
Jared Sullivan actually fired her?
"Impossible, how could my dad fire me?!"
"President Sterling is an impartial person who abhors tardiness and leaving early in employees. Miss Hughes, your rampant tardiness and early departures often disrupt work, so President Sterling’s decision to fire you adheres to company regulations."
What a compliance with company regulations! Her dad is the company’s president; she’s the president’s daughter, does she need to follow the rules?
This is just an excuse!
"I want to see my dad and ask him personally, open the door and let me in!"
"President Sterling has ordered that Miss Hughes is not to step a foot inside the company henceforth; Miss Hughes should leave."
Quite a few employees were already watching the scene unfold, murmuring among themselves.
Skylar Hughes usually acted presumptuously in the company, relying on her status as the president’s daughter.
Recently, everyone learned she was not the president’s biological daughter but a stepdaughter.
Now that the president has fired her, it shows he’s not as attached to her as she claims.
Skylar Hughes realized her insistence here would only humiliate her further.
"Dad must think I’m too tired, I’ll wait for him at home to discuss."
Attempting to save face, she left.
Skylar Hughes waited at home for Jared Sullivan all day.
When Jared Sullivan returned home in the evening, he brought someone along.
—— Skylar Hughes’ biological father.
Since moving to the Sterling Family home, Skylar Hughes had almost lost contact with her father, now seeing him suddenly left her stunned.
Moreover, her father, with half-gray hair and a somewhat hunched back, contrasting sharply with the tall and polished Jared Sullivan, naturally evoked a sense of resistance in her.
She ignored her biological father and greeted Jared Sullivan with a smile and an obedient expression.
"Dad, you’re finally back."
Her father mistakenly thought Skylar was calling him, subconsciously responding, feeling awkward afterward.
He reasoned that years of no contact led to his daughter’s estrangement, which is understandable.
