Halsey told Calvin straight up that she really loved Shap

Outside the door, Shaun’s lips curved into a small smile. He had known all along–he always had.

Calvin, on the other hand, was stunned. He had nned to tell Halsey what he really telt tonight. If the families could arrange for them to be engaged, it would’ve been perfect,

But now, it was clear that Halsey was taken.

Halsey ced her hand gently on her lower belly, her delicate features glowing with maternal warmth.” Besides, I’m pregnant. Shaun and I are already over five months along.”

Calvin’s eyes widened. Halsey was so slim, and with her loose dress, it was impossible to tell she was expecting.

Still, Calvin was the type who could ept things gracefully. He gave a small, bitter smile. “Esee. Congrattions.”

Halsey returned the smile. “Thank you. I’m really d to have a friend like you.”

She had excellent timing and tact. By being honest before Calvin could contess, she spared him any embarrassment, preserved his dignity, and ensured they could still be friends in the future.

Calvin understoodpletely. He could only smile in acknowledgment.

Outside, Shaun lightly knocked on the door.

    Halsey looked over. “Shaun’s here.”

The door opened, and Shaun stepped inside. He nodded politely at Calvin, “Professor Johnson, good evening.

Calvin stood quickly. “Mr. Lane, hello. I’ve heard so much about you.”

He extended his hand, and Shaun shook it firmly,

Shaun smiled. “I’ve also heard a lot about you. And since you’ve helped Halsey so much tonight, I wanted toe with her and thank you properly.”

    Calvin chuckled. “You’re too kind.”

They released their handshake, and Shaun took a seat next to Halsey.

Halsey said warmly to Calvin, “You should start ordering. We can eat while we chat.”

Shaun held Halsey’s hand, their fingers intecing. They shared a soft, sweet smile, eyes locked in a quiet

    moment.

Calvin realized then that he would never be more than a friend to Halsey.

The meal was rxed and pleasant. When they finished and stepped outside, Calvin said to the couple, ” Thank you both for tonight.”

“It was our pleasure,” Shaun replied.

    “I’ll head out, then. Goodbye.”

    “Bye,” Halsey replied.

Calvin got into his luxury car and drove off.

Shaun and Halsey stayed behind, Shaun still holding her hand tightly. “Come on. Let’s go home.”

Halsey’s bright eyes looked up at him. “Did you know all along that Calvin had feelings for me?”

Shaun arched a brow. “His feelings were written all over his face. You were just too close to notice.”

“I really didn’t notice! No wonder you suddenly came to my college to give a lecture, and then tonight, you insisted oning with me for dinner. Were you keeping an eye on me and Calvin?”

Shaun reached around her waist, pulling her into his arms. “I had to. He’s an impressive rival–what if he managed to steal my girl?”

Halsey wrapped her arms around him. “Not a chance! There are plenty of men in this world, but I only love you.”
