Outside the hotel, Evelyn had brought Naomi to stay for the night.

Evelyn picked up on her daughter’s worries and said, “Don’t worry. Worst case, you’ll just use Eliza’s international cement. You two are sisters–just give the school some money and it’ll be fine. As for Eliza, she thinks cutting ties with the Rivers family is that easy? We’ve raised her for so many years. It’s only right that she repays us.”

She hung up without hesitation.

“Of course I am!”

Evelyn felt guilty for no reason at all. “She’s just rebellious. Imagine hanging up on her own mother.”

“You went through all that trouble. Why didn’t you just ask what I wanted?”

“I’m not hungry.”

It was nearly four o’clock, but Nn had never had a regr eating schedule.
