CHAPTER 26: ON THE RUN

DAVINA

I ran, like fire was under my bosom as Aria came storming after me. She had been disgraced right before the class and needed to regain her dignity, but not on my watch.

Not now! The thrill of having my lick back after several months of bullying wouldn’t let me stop.

We ran across hallways, and that same strength that pumped in my veins came back with full force.

"Come back here! You bitch!"

My eyes zeroed in on a secluded corner in the school, and I was determined to run in and ambush Aria right there. If I could do it once, I could do it again.

Right at the nick of time, I turned sharply, turning into the corner. But like a flash of light, I saw a dark figure rushing at me and the next second, my body moved in the air like paper, and in the blink of an eye, I had disappeared from the corner.

However, I could hear Aria’s shrill voice, "Where the fuck are you, Davina?"

"I am going to kill you when I get my hands on you!"

She continued to yell, but then her words blurred as I set my eyes on the dark figure who had taken me far away.

My chest tightened as I muttered, "Ethan..."

He was dressed in black clothes with a black mask over his face.

"Shh..." He shook his head at me, as he ran across the school buildings, ducking past several offices. I held my mouth, making sure I wouldn’t let out any sound.

Before long, he stopped before a door and the next second, it was pulled open. He dashed in and it slammed shut.

I let out a harsh breath, with his chest heaving against mine.

The room was dark and I hardly saw through anything when he slowly placed me on my feet.

Quickly, I held his shirt, staring deep into his eyes, "What happened?"

"Where are Shawn and Uriel? I woke today and the guards were all over, looking for you all. Is something bad going to happen?"

"I can’t stand this, please."

"Relax, Vina." He whispered, cupping my chin lightly.

"How can I...?" I shook my head, with a lone tear streaming down my face. "I caused this..."

"No, you didn’t!" He hissed, grabbing my shoulders and holding my gaze. Even though I could see him, I could feel the tension and the gripping emotion in his eyes.

"All you did was try to save us and we did the same too! We are even!"

"But..."

"No buts!"

I nodded, swallowing the rest of my words.

"Shawn and Uriel couldn’t come. I was sent to see you and you don’t have to worry, we are fine."

"Fine?" I frowned. "Is this what you call fine? I am sure you don’t have a place to stay! Will you keep running around the Pack until the Alpha gets a hold of you?"

"That is not going to happen—"

"Don’t be delusional!" I hissed.

"As soon as the Alpha gets back, the search for you all will intensify! Everybody will want to find out who the hidden Alpha brothers are, don’t you get it?"

"I do..." He sighed, pinching his temples.

"No matter what, we will find a way—"

"No!" I shut him up, almost immediately. I couldn’t sit still and let them run around the pack.

"My mother’s house is still empty, and I am sure she is never going to go back there. You all can stay there for now. No one is going to suspect your whereabouts that way."

"Really?"

"Yes. I will get the keys as soon as I get back home."

"Alright." Ethan nodded. "I will call you. I have to go now."

He pulled me into his embrace, and my hands wrapped around him tightly as I felt a bitter taste down my throat.

I was bitter, and angry. I finally found the love I crave, but it was slowly slipping from my hands.

"Are you sure you will be fine?"

"Of course." He chuckled. "Trust us..."

He brought his lips to mine, kissing me lightly. His usual mischief was gone, his taunts which would make me pant for him were nowhere to be seen.

Ethan was drained, on the run for his life and that of his brothers.

"I hope things go back to normal soon."

He laughed, as if to mock me, mock my words and the situation we were in.

"We were never living normally. And it would never go back to how it used to be. Makes me regret clearing up those bodies last night, we should have left them to rot if we knew we were going to be found out so early."

"Don’t say that..." I almost cried out loud but I had to hold it in and deep down, I knew it was the truth.

The Alpha would never forgive his sons for defying him.

It would be much worse if he knew of my involvement.

"For now, we can’t meet each other, Vina. After you give us the keys to the house, please stay away and stay back at the Packhouse."

"No..." I shook my head. "This wasn’t what you said..."

I jabbed his chest, my heart wrenching in its cage. They had said they would protect me, and now they were leaving me to rot in that hell?

I could always sneak out of the house to see them, but they wanted me to stay away?

"We promise we will come back for you, before the Alpha lays his hands on you. We are doing everything we can so he won’t suspect you."

"Liar!" I sneered, my eyes turning red. The bitterness was taking over, alongside the anger I had suppressed.

"Is this your way to keep me away so you can bring Aria in?"

"What?" He gasped.

"Do you think I don’t know?"

"Know what?" He feigned ignorance, but I was done with him. But I also hated that I was selfish and wanted to have them to myself at all times.

The next second, I left him, storming out of the place. I didn’t look back even though he tried to come after me. I ran, hurriedly approaching the group of students who were scattered around.

Ethan had no choice but to slip back inside and I stormed toward my class and the itch to slap that bitch across the face fueled me again.

But as I got to class, I heard her bragging, "Hera, do you want to see what Shawn gave me?"
