CHAPTER 31: NO COMPETITION

DAVINA

I crawled on the floor, leaving a trail of thick blood with the metallic scent almost sending bile up my throat. The pain was horrifying with deep gashes on my back and I feared my body would split into parts soon.

And I begged desperately, with drool running down my mouth, "Please, let me out."

But the door was slammed shut, their receding footsteps bouncing off the walls and I lay there, displeased with myself.

Only if I had listened to Ethan. Only if I got out, before my jealous thinking took over.

Now, I could only wait until the full moon, until the Alpha decided to do whatever he wanted to me.

But then, the door opened and the next second, a limp body was dragged in and thrown straight to the floor. The body rolled, straight to my side and I struggled to see who it was.

Even though the face was mashed to the floor, I recognized the silky hair that now had grime in it.

"Aria..." I muttered.

My body moved within the pool of my blood even when the jolts of pain down my body almost pulled me to the afterlife.

"Hey..." I held her fingers, the best I could, "Wake up..."

Her body was cold, skin pale with several incisions. At that moment, my heart tightened with hot tears brimming in my eyes. She looked like a corpse that had gone through a tragic death.

The only life in her was the shallow breath from her nostrils.

"Please..." I let out, shakily and begging. "Don’t die..."

I dragged my body even closer and I didn’t mind the months of bullying, ridicule, harm, and insults she had inflicted on me.

My warmth radiated to her, my warm blood rubbing on her skin. Anything, just anything to have her wake up. I was losing strength too, alongside the blood loss and before long, my fingers left her and I slipped heavily to the floor.

Two hours later, the scent of blood was still heavy in the air but then, I felt an intense gaze on me like one from the depths of hell.

Aria was looking down at me with my dried-up blood all over her body.

"You are awake..." Her lips curled, with eyes flashing with a burning fury. "What the hell did you do to me?"

I moved to the wall with my body already adapting to the pain, I sneered, "You would have died if I didn’t help you."

"By rubbing your filthy blood on me?"

"Would you rather go back to hell where you belong?" I snapped, eyes narrowing and immediately she looked away, clearing her throat.

And then, she looked at me, "What is going on here?"

"Why are you locked up here and why is the Alpha asking me about his sons? I never thought he would be so brutal..." She rubbed her arms which were lined with goosebumps with unshed tears in her eyes.

"He had multiple razors cutting into my skin."

My heart tightened for her, as I knew she had never gone through any form of brutality and this was probably doing something to her brain.

"The brothers didn’t tell you?" I asked.

"What brothers...?" Her voice dragged out and as her eyes widened slowly, I knew she had connected the dots.

"They are the Alpha brothers?" She gasped, going to her knees. "The triplet sons?"

I rolled my eyes, hating the excitement on her face. I realized she had fallen head over heels for them too.

"Oh my goddess..." She whispered, her eyes twinkling. "That means, I hit a jackpot!"

"Jackpot?" I laughed and as my shoulders danced with the rhythm, I felt even more pain but I didn’t mind.

"Is this the jackpot you mean? You lying in the pool of my blood? You are so fucking stupid."

Instantly, her head snapped at me, "How dare you—"

"Oh please..." I rolled my eyes, turning my face away.

But then, from the corner of my eyes, I could see the anxious look on her face. She bit on her fingers, like a child with no direction, and the way she shoved her head down her palm continuously, I knew she must be going crazy.

"Then what the fuck are you doing here? Are you after the brothers too?"

I pursed my lips, looking away again.

"You..." She got closer, tapping her fingers on my face. "No wonder you fought me when you saw Shawn’s gift."

"You are just a jealous little bitch!"

Those words stung because she was fucking right. But I reined in my emotions, looking up at her with questions.

I desperately wanted to know if she had seen them. If my mates were alright.

"So, how did your meet-up with them go?" My eyes darted.

"I...I..." She stuttered, as a blush rushed down her neck. "I didn’t get to meet them."

"What?"

She sighed, wiping a fake tear off her face, "I waited for hours at the spot they asked to meet until I was taken by the guards."

"Davina..." She moved closer, holding my hands with red-rimmed eyes. "I have nothing to hide anymore since we are here together."

"Wait..." I pulled my hands out of her grip. "What do you mean you couldn’t see them?"

Her lips moved, with no sound before she finally spoke up, "I mean they stood me up."

"What? Weren’t they all over you and sending you gifts?"

"Yeah..." Aria sighed. "That’s because I threatened them. I caught them assaulting Zayne and I made a deal with them."

"So, they didn’t confess their love to you?"

"No..." She chuckled.

I blinked, feeling my heart ease in a second. But then, my brows creased in confusion.

"Why are you telling me this? Just be the nasty bitch you are."

"No need." She shrugged, before pulling up to the wall beside me. Her head tilted, "I know you are as nasty and desperate too."

"They stood me up, just like they did to you. All we need to know is why they brought here? Do you think we will be chosen as the next Lunas?"

"Or is it me, Aria?"

I clicked my tongue, amazed by how she smiled and became delusional even with the screaming danger around us.

But I couldn’t help the gentle smile that crossed my lips too with my jealousy fading with the wind.

What I saw were lies. Aria’s happiness and flaunting. I should have believed what was real, the love and longing inside me, toward them.

My breath hitched, as I wondered what would become of me now. I doubted if they would risk their lives again for someone who wouldn’t trust them.

"Hey, Vina..." She tapped me again. "What do you say about fighting for the brothers when we get out of here?"

"Whoever wins their love will do anything for the other."

As always, the evil never left. She only wanted company in misery.

"What do you want to do? Kill me?"

She nodded and then tilted her head, eyes dimming, "Why don’t I do it here instead?"

"No competition, now or in the future."

At that moment, her eyes darted to a sharp metal object lying around in the room.
