CHAPTER 37: THEY REALLY CAME

DAVINA

"Davina!"

I saw my mates swimming atop the waters, with the moon their only guidance. However, diving deeper meant unseen harm for them.

They turned around, diving away from the spot where I had sunk and my heart plummeted.

"I knew it." Seraphine sneered. "Mortals would always save themselves first."

The water had already rushed into my body incredibly and breathing was extremely hard now. Seraphine was the one holding me on, and with the painful knot in my chest, I didn’t know how to fight her.

"The minute you get out of here, you should reject them. They are not worthy—"

Boom!

We heard the surface of the water break, three huge wolves had burst into the water, flapping their legs and diving deep.

Their eyes shone in the darkness that shrouded the water and for a moment Seraphine went quiet.

"They really came..." She muttered.

"Of course..." I let out, even though I was almost broken, losing hope, and also afraid that she would force me to reject them.

Their eyes were like piercing beams as they reached me. I forced my hands up, waving for them to see and they came rushing at me, circling me and growling in the water.

Uriel’s wolf nudged me on, and I got on his back as they swam straight up to the surface.

The minute I breathed in the fresh air that went down my watered lungs, I choked.

A strong fit of cough followed, with my chest heaving and it was a struggle to breathe.

"Easy..." The boys had morphed back, and now they surrounded me, with eyes heavy with worry.

A few minutes later, I was back to normal and I stared at them, with eyes carrying a tender glow.

"Thank you."

However, Ethan ignored that as he clamped his hands on my shoulders.

"How did you end up here?"

"Well... I..." My eyes darted, wondering if I should tell them about what had happened. The crazy walk I had done down to the forest and met Seraphine.

"Seraphine?" I called out in my mind, wanting her to meet my mates. But I felt like an empty shell, as if she were nowhere inside of me.

"Davina?" Shawn shook my arm while Uriel had his narrowed gaze on me.

"Huh, I..." I stuttered. "I was being pursued by the guards, and they found my mother’s house. The forest was the only place I could think of."

However, Ethan probed even further, "And the water—"

"Are you guys alright?" I twirled my head, roaming my eyes through every inch of their bodies.

"Yes." They nodded, but then Uriel had gone to stand behind me.

"You were injured when we got you out of the Packhouse. Your injuries are gone,"

I felt his fingers trailing down my back, gently and it sent sparks of electricity through me, all flowing down to my nether regions. I realized I was even more aware of their touch, their gaze, and my arousal for them.

I saw their nose sniff the air, catching my scent but still, they wanted answers.

"I don’t know what happened." I lied, as I shrugged my shoulders.

This time Shawn had his cold eyes on me as if he could drill the answers out of my head. But I couldn’t be intimidated by his stares.

They exchanged glances, took deep breaths and Uriel pulled away from my back. I felt a sense of relief knowing they had dropped the topic. Before I could talk to them about Seraphine, I needed to straighten things out with that crazy blood wolf.

"We need to leave the Packs tonight. Your mother’s house is no longer safe."

"What?" My brows creased. "To where exactly?"

I was reluctant, with my head churning with thoughts. I didn’t think I would want to leave my education and a place I had known for all my life.

What if danger awaited us outside?

The brothers had gone silent, they had nowhere to go too and would only lead blindly.

"Let’s go to our mother’s Pack." Uriel’s voice dropped and all heads whipped toward him.

I looked at them, wondering why they had such a reaction. Their awkwardness and the redness that spread across their faces made my heart sink.

"What...what’s wrong?"

Ethan smiled wryly, "That’s out of the question."

"Why?"

Uriel didn’t spare me the details, "The previous Luna is dead, however, her death wasn’t natural."

I understood immediately knowing how vile the Alpha was. It meant their mother must have been killed by the Alpha.

But Shawn glared at him, "You should also tell her that our mother’s pack does not want to see us coming! They think we chose the Alpha over them."

I immediately realized this was a pool of information I shouldn’t intrude on. And the way they glared at each other so hard, a fight could break out.

"Stop!" I stepped in their middle. "We can go somewhere else."

"Where?" They snapped.

"I have a friend. He can take us in."

"He?" They frowned.

"Yes..." I swallowed.

On the way, I kept explaining my friendship. Telling them there were no strings attached and the cherry on top was when they asked if we could trust the said friend.

His house was on the outskirts, as after being abandoned by his parents, almost like me, he worked hard to provide for himself and eventually dropped out of school.

I knocked on the door thrice with one little tap, and immediately from the other side, I heard him approaching the door.

"He knows it’s me..." I grinned but then the brother’s stern gazes made my smile falter.

The door was pulled open and a sleepy boy stood at the door. His eyes brightened when he saw my face and the next second, he pulled me into him.

We hadn’t seen each other for a long while and my hands were outstretched, ready to embrace him.

However, I felt a pull from behind. My friend’s grip loosened around me, and I was thrown into Shawn’s arms.

He wrapped his hands around my waist possessively while his eyes shot daggers at my friend.

"What’s going on, Vina?"

"Can...can we stay here for the night, Chris?"

Chris’ brows creased as his eyes landed on the brothers and the inherent dislike in them was too obvious.

"No." He sneered and the next second, he slammed the door shut in our faces.

My stomach dipped and at the same time, my ears picked up the sound of guards rushing toward the outskirts with lamps in their hands.

The brothers heard it too, and quickly, Shawn ordered.

"Break down the door."
