CHAPTER 46: DARIUS

SHAWN

My guards were up, as I trailed behind the man, and then my eyes scoured the streets, checking for guards. The Alpha could have sent him to get me and my brothers while he pretended to be from the Blood Moon Pack.

I couldn’t be fooled.

So, I slipped away, turning on my heels in another direction and straight to the mansion. However, my eyes were starting to get blurry, and my bleeding hadn’t stopped either.

I turned the corner, the mansion in sight, but then I froze.

"Did you think you could get away?"

It was the same man, his brows furrowed in displeasure.

"Why are you coming after me?" I leaned on the wall, as my chest heaved.

"I don’t know who the hell you are and you want me to go with you?"

But he gasped, covering his parted lips, "You didn’t believe me?"

"Why would I?" I sneered. "The bounty on my head could make you rich for life, you know."

Even though I looked at him with chill eyes, labelling him a cunning ass man, he didn’t get angry. And as I slipped to the floor, pressing down on my wound, he sat beside me too.

"Let me help you..." He reached for my clothes, but I pulled away, as if burned.

"No, I am fine." I hated showing this side of me. I hated to be vulnerable and weak with a deep-seated fear that I could be used, or fucked up.

"I am not trying to harm you, Shawn." He insisted, looking straight at me with reassuring eyes. There was no malice in them, even though his eyes seemed sharp and intimidating.

"You might die if you don’t do something to that."

"What’s your name?" I finally relented.

"Darius." He pulled out a powdered herb from his pocket while he tore off a piece of his cloth to clean the injury.

That name didn’t ring a bell at all, and I arched a brow, "Do you know my mother?"

"Of course..." His lips raised slightly and the subtle calmness that crossed his eyes when we spoke of that woman.

I had very few memories of her, but she had a shimmering aura around her. One I couldn’t forget.

And I wanted to know more, "My mother...ahh!"

Pain seared through me, and my words got stuck in my throat as he sprayed the herb on my open wound.

"Fuck! What the hell is that?" My teeth chattered, and my eyes blurred with tears at the edges.

"It’s something I concocted. This will stop the bleeding for now, until you heal."

"But..." I frowned, as he helped me up on my feet. "Why am I not healing up? It’s been hours since I got injured."

There was a fleeting look of worry in his eyes, "I can’t heal that, neither can you. The one who caused it, has to do it."

I stopped, "What do you mean?"

"Do you know who did this?" My hands tightened around his arm, and my fingers dug into his flesh.

"These marks..." He traced the claw marks on my skin around my wounds while he clicked his tongue, "It’s definitely a blood wolf’s doing."

"Blood wolf?"

"Yes." He nodded. "Don’t you know? The blood wolf is native to the Blood Moon Pack. We only see them once in several years."

"A blood wolf has to die before another can be born. There can only be one under the heavens."

I swallowed, feeling the weight of those words sink down my shoulders. Confusion set in too, as I thought back to what I had seen with Davina.

It couldn’t be, right? She wasn’t from the Blood Moon Pack.

"Tell me, where did you meet one? I haven’t seen one since..." His words trailed off, and he avoided my eyes for a moment. He was hiding something.

But then he looked at me, "We have to find that wolf to heal you. Otherwise, you will die."

My lips parted, as I wondered if I could tell him what was going on.

He saw my confusion, and my hesitation and he probed further, "Are your brothers injured too?"

"Yes..."

He pinched his nose, while huffing, "I was only gone from this place for a while and you all have gotten into so much trouble?"

I pulled back, wondering why he was getting so worked up.

"What do you mean? Didn’t you just get into this place?"

"No, dummy." He sneered. "I have been here for...let’s say, years."

My eyes narrowed, my doubts swirling within, "So, you have been watching over us?"

"Hmmm..." He nodded. "I know when you all got your wolves too."

"What?" My mouth stayed open, in shock.

However, he shrugged like it was nothing. As if the Alpha hadn’t done a really good job at hiding us.

"I only left for a while and came back when I found out Alpha Diego would be getting married again."

"Tell me, is the new wife beautiful?" He wiggled his brows, with a twisted smile.

I sneered, as I turned my face away, "It’s so commendable to switch between personalities in minutes."

"Do you have a disorder?"

"Heyy..." He hissed, eyeing me from top to bottom. "You look cold but your tongue is so sharp."

And then he pulled on my arm, "For now, let’s go to your brothers. They need to get treated."

He held me firmly, but not too tight to cause a bruise but tight enough to keep me secure.

For the first time, I smiled ever so slightly and I felt something in my chest shift. It was soft and it quickly it faded away.

And then, I stopped, pulling my hand away from his grip, "I have to be somewhere else."

"Where?" He turned to me with his nose scrunched up. He was impatient. Another side of him.

"The Alpha’s mansion."

"What? Are you trying to get yourself killed?"

"No, I have to get to someone. I can’t go back to my brothers without her."

"Who is that?" He snapped. "Who the hell is that person?"

"My mate..." My lips curled in a calm smile. But then, I closed in on him, with my lips pursed, "Can you help me?"
