CHAPTER 54: DARIUS TOO

DAVINA

I let out a shaky breath as two guards stepped out from the car first and then followed by a clearly strong man who looked to have seen a number of battles.

His eyes were sharp with an unsettling aura around him, however, he let out a smile and in the blink of an eye, everything went calm.

He suddenly didn’t look harmless, but deep in my heart I knew this was a camouflage.

But then, Darius stepped forward, meeting him halfway.

"I didn’t know you would be coming out this way, Alpha."

Alpha Damian glanced away from Darius and looked straight at me. The next second, I had my head down for a moment, unable to meet those eyes.

"I figured you wouldn’t want to bring her. I was right."

Darius immediately protested, "It’s not what you think—"

However, his guards pushed Darius to the side and he almost stumbled on the side of the road. I had the Alpha coming for me and it seemed every step he took was a storm incoming.

And still, I wasn’t able to raise my head.

But the unexpected happened.

"Get your fucking head up, Davina!"

It was Seraphine, harsh and commanding, and as if on command, my head whipped up to look straight in the Alpha’s eyes.

The sharpness seemed to blur, as my lips curled, "Hello, Alpha."

He stopped, a fleeting look of shock flashing in his eyes as he nodded with a small smile.

"She is brave..."

"What do you expect?" I tilted my head to the side. "I am the blood wolf after all."

"I hear you were eager to see me. Is there anything I can do for you?"

He folded his arms behind him, "I have heard stories of quite a number of blood wolves, but you seem to be very different."

"Ohhh..." I raised a brow. "In what way? Don’t tell me you have some sort of prejudice against them?"

"Oh, of course not!" He laughed. "You just seem to fascinate me..." He stepped forward and stretched his palm to me.

"Why don’t we take a walk? We can get to know each other after all, you have come to live in my Pack."

"A walk?" Seraphine sneered inside me. "At this time of the night? He seems to think we are a bunch of fools."

Darius glanced at me, waiting for what I would say next.

"I don’t think that’s appropriate, Alpha." I took a step back, as I stared at his palm with my nose scrunched up. "I never knew I was going to meet you."

"Why don’t we set up a proper meeting another time?"

He glanced at Darius, with a slight crease of his brows and then back at me.

"You seem not to understand how serious this is—"

"Trust me, I do." I smiled. "Darius has spoken of your benevolence and I am grateful. However, you wouldn’t force your guests to do your bidding, would you?"

"I could just leave the Pack if that’s the case."

My smile turned into a grin, with no single flicker in my eyes. I would do what I said, hook, line, and sinker. And with such an Alpha who looked like he had caught his big fish, he would be reluctant to let that big fish go.

He let out a heavy breath and drew his hand back, "Let’s meet tomorrow then, at my place. I have a proposition for you."

He waited, with bated breath for my reply but I turned around sharply while waving at Darius.

"Quick! Come drive!"

He followed after me, rushing to the driver’s seat while I sat comfortably by his side. However, he kept glancing at his car mirror, checking on the Alpha.

"You have angered him."

"I know." I chuckled. "I just had to. I hate it when someone tries to force me."

He glanced at me, with raised brows, "You seem different than earlier."

"Yeah..." I shrugged. "I think I have multiple personalities now. With such an entity inside me, who wouldn’t be so fleek?"

He laughed, the sound echoing through the car and I let out a small smile—a proud one. Even though Seraphine had been in control just a tad bit earlier, I had some traces of me in there too.

A sassiness I never knew I had and the ability to stand before those sharp eyes and bounce off the attacks without letting them touch me.

I wished I could go back in time, and embody this part of me before my mother and Alpha Diego, and of course, Aria and her goons.

"What do you think the Alpha wants to speak to you about?" Darius cut in, with creased brows.

"Well, he wants a piece of the cake, doesn’t he?" I sank into my chair, while glancing at the road.

"Do you know the story of Ciara? The boys’ mother?"

I sat up immediately, "Not really. All I know is that she died and Diego was the cause."

My intrigue pushed him further to tell me everything about the previous blood wolf.

"Do the boys know about her? I mean, her powers?"

"I don’t think so..." He shook his head. "Diego never told them after all, he took all the glory for having two packs under his belt."

"I see..."

"So, can you guess what Damian wants to speak to you about?"

"I guess I can..." I smiled. It wasn’t far off what I thought of him after all.

"What will you do?" He glanced at me again, his eyes searching for answers only I could give and a flicker of doubt. And I watched the way his fingers tightened around the wheels as if he was tense.

I turned to the window with a defeated gaze, "This is my safest place to be. I have to play by his cards at least, for now."

I reclined in my chair, shutting off every other noise in my head.

But Seraphine wouldn’t keep still, "Don’t tell me you are going to listen to that Alpha tomorrow?"

"All that bravado was for nothing?"

"Of course not..." I chuckled inside. "Darius doesn’t have to know everything. Who knows if he is working with the Alpha?"

If he were a backstabber, I would want him to tell the Alpha that I was just a weak ass girl behind the scenes and only putting up a front earlier.

It would let Damian’s guards down.

"I have a question, Seraphine." I probed, as my curiosity rose.

"Do you know Ciara? What was she like?"

"No, I don’t." She snickered. "Who is that?"

"The last blood wolf?" My brows creased.

"Oh, I don’t recall any other person. Once they are dead, they disappear from my memories too and I get a new person."

"A worthy person." She said proudly.

But it wasn’t a proud moment for me at all as I felt a knot in my chest. My eyes blurred at the edges as a cold trickle of sadness went down my body.

"Do you mean you are going to forget me the minute I die?"

She went quiet, as if my question had choked her which was unusual for Seraphine.

"Uhmmm..." She stuttered. "I...I think that’s how it works."

"You won’t remember me either. So, I think that’s a win-win for us both."

However, it still didn’t quench the ache in my heart. I went silent too and even though she bugged me and tried to get me to speak to her, I didn’t say a word.

I got out of the car, straight to the living space that had been prepared. It was a house, with four bedrooms and I must admit Darius and the Alpha had put a lot of consideration into it.

However, as soon as I got to the door with Darius following after me I turned around.

"I think you should go back home." I bowed my head. "Thank you for everything today. I will see you tomorrow."

He gasped but then bowed his head as he stepped back. He went back to his car and I watched him drive off before I got in.

But just as I got in, I felt a pull.

It was Uriel, with eyes red in anger, "Where the hell have you been?"

"Uhmm..." I smiled, sheepishly. "I had to do something with Darius."

"What is that?" Ethan and Shawn’s voices bounced off the walls as they appeared in the living room.

Uriel dragged me toward them, and soon, I was surrounded by three boys oozing with pheromones. Their anger, the danger made me squirm and that wouldn’t let me stay still.

I glanced at the couch, "Can I sit for a moment?"

"No." Shawn refused, with a cold voice that sent chills down my spine.

Ethan and Uriel had the same cold look Shawn had and it seemed they had embodied themselves. I couldn’t even tell them apart with their faces at this moment.

I had to quickly speak up, narrating all that happened and assuring them I didn’t give Alpha Damian an audience.

But they didn’t ease up, still and the air was still just as tense.

"Is anything the problem?"

Shawn walked to one side of the room, bringing out a thick envelope and as he pulled out the contents for me to see, Ethan began explaining.

"We received that from an anonymous source when you were away."

I grabbed the documents, pictures, and other things inside the envelope and I checked through every single one of them with my brows creased.

"It’s about our mother’s death. Apparently, Alpha Diego wasn’t the only one involved."

I nodded, as I muttered, "Darius too."
