CHAPTER 56: NEW SCHOOL, OLD TROUBLE

DAVINA

"Nothing!" I said sharply and I turned around like a robot, straight to the car while the boys followed after me.

They immediately knew to stop talking and not say anything else while Darius stood back, with his intense gaze on us.

"Do you think he suspects anything? Did I act up too obviously?" My eyes darted, while my back was stiff as a rock.

The next second, Ethan wrapped his arm around my shoulder, squeezing it slightly to ease me up.

"Don’t make it any more obvious..."

The slight raise of his lips and the calmness in his eyes made me relax. He was always mischievous, but then, he had realized the importance of keeping a cool stance at this point.

As he ushered me into the car, Darius caught up with us and he stared straight at me through the car’s mirror.

However, with my fingers wrapped around Ethan’s, I stared back at him, while I spoke.

"Aren’t we going to school anymore, Darius? Hurry, we will be late."

He pursed his lips, and I looked out the window as he drove off.

But then, the air was tense as he kept glancing at us.

"Is no one going to tell me about the meeting with Alpha Damian?"

"Ohh..." I let out calmly. "It went well. It was the usual thing I expected."

"So?" He probed with a raised brow.

"So? What?" I feigned ignorance.

"Are you going to accept his proposal?"

"What do you think?" I leaned forward, with my hand on my chin. "What would you do in this case, Darius?"

"If I accept, I will be going against Alpha Diego. Do you think that is wise?"

The brothers exchanged glances, with deep breaths and I could feel Ethan’s grip tighten around me. He desperately wanted to know about who Darius really stood for.

As we waited with bated breaths, he let out a small smile.

"I don’t know for real, Davina. Anything you want to do, I am solidly behind you, just like the boys."

That wasn’t what I expected. But then, I didn’t know what I expected him to say. To get angry over Ciara’s death and implore me to charge against Diego? Or just to keep calm in the Blood Moon Pack?

"However, you have to think things through properly."

I leaned away, feeling a knot in my chest with no headway in sight. I wished I could speak to the brothers right there and then, but Darius was here.

And soon, we arrived at the school.

It was way different from ours back at home, and it didn’t look like a cage here. Carefree students roamed around the premises but sure enough, our presence quickly attracted eyes.

I almost shrank, recalling the same set of young eyes staring mockingly at me. Even though I tried to fight it, it was ingrained deeply in my memory.

"Davina, it’s okay..." Ethan soothed me, almost as if he knew what was happening as I walked stiffly beside him.

"I am fine..." I let out a sharp breath, but then I was far from fine.

It seemed the news had spread that there were new students and more people came out of their classrooms and lined the walkway, with hawk-like eyes.

A few girls were already swooning over the brothers’ handsomeness and I had a crease in my brows as my fists clenched.

"Are you jealous?" Ethan teased but his hand never left mine for once and the next second, Uriel and Shawn came to stand by my side, rallying around me like soldiers.

I finally realized we didn’t have to hide anymore. We could show off our love and not need to worry about that damned bastard.

And we didn’t have to wait for too long as Darius had everything prepared while standing in as our guardian.

As soon as we received the school supplies, my expectant smile grew, as we all approached the same classroom. I had been anxious we wouldn’t be together but then I didn’t need to be.

However, as soon as we stepped into the class, I immediately felt a cold energy radiating. The students were unlike the ones who had peeked to see us.

They looked uncaring, and frigid.

"Do you think something is wrong?" I glanced at the brothers as I approached my assigned seat.

But, the chair was pulled away in a second before I could get on it. And I came face to face with a boy with a black handkerchief wrapped around his head.

He looked like a school thug with a slimy lollipop in his slightly open mouth.

As his eyes flashed wickedly at me, the boys quickly tried to intervene but I pulled them back.

This was my first day, and I was already facing bullies. I needed to stand up for myself.

"Excuse me, what are you doing?" I folded my arms, with creased brows.

"Are you blind?" He snapped. "This seat belongs to someone else."

"Who?" I snapped back. "I was assigned this specific seat and it shouldn’t belong to anyone."

"Well, my girlfriend owns it. Do you dare sit there? Else you covet me and want me to yourself?"

Suddenly, the class erupted into booing sounds all over. The boy gangster before me couldn’t stop his grin as the other students praised him.

However, I wasn’t ready to condone this rubbish.

My fists clenched, "Step out of the way!"

"And what if I don’t?" He snickered as he sat directly on the chair. "What are you going to do?"

"I suggest you sit your ass down on my thighs, I am sure your bodyguards wouldn’t—"

In the blink of an eye, Shawn had disappeared from behind me and he appeared before the gangster in seconds and the class went still and silent in shock at Shawn’s speed.

Crash!

His back hit the wall, and a sharp crack appeared in it while Shawn’s fingers wrapped around his neck so hard.

"What..." The boy choked as his eyes blinked. "What...what are you doing? Let..let me go."

"Shawn! Let him go..." I stepped forward, pulling on my mate’s arm.

But his head tilted to the side, "Not yet..."

"He still needs to learn a lesson!"

The chill seeping from Shawn’s body made everyone shiver while the boy almost peed his pants. However, a few students stood up, ready to call a teacher for help.

But then, I didn’t want that kind of attention on us yet. It was just our first day of school.

Unfortunately, the brothers weren’t ready to stop Shawn, and I had to keep pulling his arm.

And just at that moment, footsteps echoed in the silent class with a girl standing at the entrance and her weak voice bounced off the walls.

"Haven’t you all done enough?"

Our heads immediately whipped in the direction of the voice. We knew that voice almost immediately and even Shawn’s grip loosened around the boy.

He fell to the floor, breathing heavily as the new girl immediately rushed to him.

"Nate, are you okay?"

Her worried voice, the strained scar on the side of her face and the way her eyes watered made me frown. She looked incredibly familiar but she had a mask covering the lower half of her face.

The boys could see it too, but they were just as confused as me.

As soon as the girl realized Nate was alright, she shot up to her feet. Her red eyes stared at us and the tears in them started to pour.

"What do you guys want?"

"Look..." I stretched my hand, trying to diffuse the situation. "I was just trying to get to my seat and he got so hostile."

"Hostile?" She sneered. "Do you think everyone is hostile to you? Who do you think you are?"

My brows creased, as I felt a bitter pang at the back of my throat.

"I don’t know what you are talking about. All I need is my chair—"

"What if you don’t get it?" She closed in on me, as her eyes narrowed. "Are you going to beat me up again? Are you going to order your bodyguards to beat me up?"

"Look, Davina!" She pointed in my face, with her lips twitching. "I am no longer scared of you because I have support now. Everyone in this class knows who you are!"

"Isn’t that so?" She glanced at the rest of the classmates and they chorused in reply.

"Yes!"

"We support you!"

My eyes darted around, as we slowly realized something was wrong. The boys quickly covered me, pushing the girl away from me.

However, I continued to speak, "I do not know how you know my name and I would appreciate it if you told me what’s going on."

But she folded her arms, with a sassy smirk, "Have you forgotten me so soon, Davina?"

"They say bullies don’t know their wrong. I guess it’s true then..."

Her fingers moved to her mask, and the next second, she pulled it off as she muttered.

"I can never forgive you, Davina. Not in this life and the afterlife."

My gaze was on her face as my stomach dipped in shock with fear crippling up my spine.
