CHAPTER 215: THE RETURN OF NOLAN (2)

"The Singularity of Chaos?" Elina was startled. She looked at her brother in surprise and asked again, "How did he save you? Did you meet him?"

Nolan gently smoothed her hair before replying, "That big black monster you saw in the distance—the Singularity appeared to defeat it. I happened to be stranded there, and he rescued me."

Elina flinched, recalling the appearance of the massive black hole. She hadn’t seen the Singularity of Chaos at the time, but she knew that figure had indeed appeared and fought against the mysterious monster.

Back then, she had thought the Singularity of Chaos would show himself before her—but he didn’t. She never saw him at all, which left her feeling like she had overestimated herself.

And now, her brother was saying he had been saved by the Singularity of Chaos. That truly shocked her.

Doubt returned to her face, and her gaze grew filled with skepticism.

Seeing her suspicion, Nolan could only feel helpless. The reason he had asked Malverna for help earlier, instead of directly setting up magic barriers on the two warships, was precisely because of his little sister.

Her instincts and sharp intuition always made her cautious and quick to suspect. Of course, Nolan was glad his sister had such traits.

After all, in this world, the cautious tended to live longer. But at the same time, that very nature often caused trouble.

He and Elina shared the same blood, and their bond was very close.

If one lied, the other could always sense it.

"Ahem! I know it’s hard to believe, but that’s how it is," Nolan said, shrugging his shoulders. "Otherwise, with my abilities, do you think I could survive and make it back here?"

Nolan’s reasonable words quickly eased Elina’s doubts. Her expression softened, and she nodded in agreement.

"You’re right, Brother," she murmured, then glanced at the opposite window and asked in wonder, "But... why did you come in through the window? Couldn’t you have used the front door?"

Her room was on the second floor, with a balcony outside. From the way her brother had entered, it was clear he had scaled a nearby wall or pillar.

Honestly, Elina had no idea how her brother managed that. She had never once seen him show any climbing skills before.

"Well..." Nolan scratched his cheek awkwardly. "I wanted to use the front door, but I figured it might disturb the others who were sleeping. Besides, my sudden appearance would probably cause a commotion. Then I noticed the balcony door to your room was open, so I decided to come in through the window instead."

Hearing that explanation, Elina didn’t feel suspicious at all and simply nodded.

"I see." She let out a small sigh, then released her embrace and tugged Nolan’s hand toward the sofa near the bed.

"Sit down, Brother. You haven’t eaten yet, have you? Coincidentally, I was just having dinner," she said softly, drawing him to the sofa.

Afterward, she walked to the minibar at the end of the room and prepared tea for him.

Nolan stayed quiet, letting her do as she pleased.

Soon, Elina returned with two cups of tea and placed them on the table. She sat beside him, her eyes fixed on him without looking away.

Nolan took a sip, the warmth of the tea soothing his throat.

Her intent gaze made him smile unconsciously.

"Is there something wrong with my face?" he asked curiously.

Elina smiled as she shook her head. "There’s nothing wrong. It just feels like a dream. Only a few days ago, you were declared dead, and I felt like my life was completely ruined."

Tears welled in her eyes as she buried her face in her arms. "Back then, I felt like I had no purpose left in life. I even forgot about the battle for the throne and everything else—none of it mattered without you by my side."

If it had been anyone else, they would have felt too embarrassed to say such things—especially as adults. But that was not the case with Elina.

She and her brother had grown up together and were deeply attached. Their bond was more than that of ordinary siblings—they understood and trusted each other without the slightest fear of betrayal.

It was a closeness even husbands and wives who had been together for years might never reach.

So, when she learned her brother had died, Elina felt a pain beyond what words could describe.

Seeing that, Nolan sighed quietly. He said nothing and simply rubbed her head affectionately.

Ten minutes later, Elina’s sobs had weakened. Nolan suddenly noticed that his sister wasn’t moving at all.

He gently lifted her head and held a finger beneath her nose. The moment he felt her breathing, the weight of his anxiety eased into relief.

"She’s just asleep," he muttered, patting his chest.

In his previous world, he had once read an article about a woman who died alone in her room. At first glance, it didn’t seem like a major case.

But after further investigation, the cause turned out to be severe depression. The woman’s brain, unable to bear the burden, simply gave up.

As a result, her entire body shut down, and she died on the spot. Just now, Nolan had feared that Elina’s depression over the past few days might lead to the same outcome.

Fortunately, she had only fallen asleep, and that brought him immense relief.

Nolan gently ran his fingers through her slightly messy hair before slowly rising to his feet. Supporting her back and thighs, he carefully carried her.

He walked over to the bed and laid her down. Her peaceful sleeping face made Nolan smile unconsciously.

"The little girl who always followed me around has now grown into an adult. Time really does fly," he whispered, shaking his head.

He leaned closer to Elina and kissed her cheek before pulling the covers over her.

"Where have you been? Don’t you know how worried you’ve made her?"

A cold voice came from behind him. Nolan showed no surprise, as if he already knew who it was.

Turning around, he saw Malverna standing in front of the wardrobe, leaning against it.

Her gaze toward Nolan was filled with displeasure and anger.

"I was busy taking care of something," he replied with a casual smile.

"Taking care of something?" Malverna raised an eyebrow. "What could possibly keep you so busy that you forgot about your sister?"

As Elina’s protector, she had witnessed firsthand how miserable Elina had been these past few days. That was why she was furious at Nolan, who had vanished right after the victory against the sea monster.

Nolan, however, wasn’t angered by Malverna’s sharp tone. Instead, he kept smiling, his eyes playful as they met hers.

"Soon enough, you’ll find out for yourself."
