“Sir, someone’s here.” Lnd’s voice snapped Carl out of his reverie.
Carl shook off the nostalgia, his attention shifting as Jacob entered briskly from outside.
Jacob paused briefly when he caught sight of Corrine and then approached with a respectful nod. “Miss Hond.”
Startled, Corrine responded, “Jacob, what brings you here?”
With a downward nce, Jacob replied calmly, “Your grandfather had me investigate something recently. I’vee to report the results.”

He rose slowly, his voice firm. “Let’s discuss this in my study.”
As they departed, Corrine yfully nudged Jules with her shoulder. “I have a feeling Jacob is keeping secrets from me.”
“Really?” Jules responded, raising an eyebrow.
With a wry smile, Corrine looked at him sharply. “Don’t you think so?”
It seemed not only Jacob, but Jules too might be concealing something from her.
Under her scrutinizing gaze, Jules shifted ufortably. “You’re reading too much into it.”
Once breakfast was done, Corrine headed out for the office.
However, just as the car left the Ford Mansion, she suddenly instructed the driver to stop.
Puzzled, the driver nced at her. “Miss Hond, aren’t we headed to thepany?”
“Give me a moment,” Corrine said, turning her gaze to the window.

She crossed her legs and rested her hands on them, her fingers tapping rhythmically, signaling her anticipation.
Soon, the gates of the Ford Mansion swung open, and Jacob’s car slowly made its exit.
Narrowing her eyes slightly, Corrine instructed, “Follow that car.” Though confused, the driver obeyed hermand.
They trailed behind for two blocks before Jacob’s vehicle came to a stop, prompting Corrine’s driver to halt the car as well. He turned to Corrine, visible in the rearview mirror. “Miss Hond, he’s stepping out now.”
Corrine gave a slight nod. “Step out for a moment, please.”
“Understood,” the driver replied, unbuckling his seatbelt to step outside.
Just then, Jacob opened the passenger door and slid into the car. “Miss Hond.”
Corrine, fingers brushing the ring on her finger, cut straight to the chase. “I need to know what’s going on.”
Caught off guard by her forthrightness, Jacob hesitated. “Miss Hond, I…”
Before Jacob could borate, Corrine interrupted him sharply. “Jacob. I believe you work for me.”
Her voice carried a clear message. When she asked questions, she expected truthful answers. Anything less would be considered disloyal and deceptive.
