CHAPTER 141: GOING TO END SOON

Jenna dug her nails into her palm so hard that she marked the crescent moon in them. She sat in the carriage heading towards Rhane and sitting beside her was Lois who had the same dress as her. Jenna knew she didn’t have to worry, but with her mind still burdened with the dream she couldn’t help but wonder if Lois was the woman she saw in her dream with Rhane.

Olivia, who was sitting opposite the two women, shuffled her feet restlessly, her eyes searching Jenna’s face at intervals.

"Do you have something you wish to say, Olivia?"

Jenna raised her face when she heard the young woman’s voice, her eyes settling on Olivia.

"I...um..." Olivia pressed her lips, "You didn’t want the dress that was why I brought it to Jenna...if I knew it..." her voice fell, so did her eyes that were now filled with guilt.

"I’m so sorry to you two, I didn’t mean for you to have the same dress on a day as grand as this." Olivia apologized, with her head lowered in sincerity, her lips pressed tightly.

Jenna sighed, she knew it wasn’t Olivia’s intention to have two women dressed the same, especially on the day a bride would be chosen. She opened her mouth to console the girl, but Lois spoke first.

"That is not something to worry for," Lois replied with a smile, "I really don’t think anyone would notice that, right Jenna?"

"But Jenna needs to stand out for her man...you know after he wins and comes to lift her up...what if he mistakes you to be her...you know how these things happen." Olivia whined, rubbing her forehead tiredly.

Jenna nodded mentally along with the girl.

Lois threw her head back and laughed, reaching forward to shake Olivia’s leg. "You must have read too many books," the woman remarked. "I am very sure Jenna’s man can tell her apart even in a crowd filled with her twins...except he doesn’t love her as he claims to do."

Jenna wetted her lips with her tongue and exhaled softly, her mind was too occupied to think of something at the moment. "Well...I’m sure it doesn’t really matter."

"You see?" Lois snapped her fingers and relaxed, "You bother for nothing you little fly," she squeezed Olivia’s cheek.

The young girl was still not convinced; she pinched her nose. The girl didn’t want to be the reason one woman lost her man. It was never her intention to pit two women against each other, and it really bothered her, knowing what such a situation could do.

"But what if he gets injured and can’t see clearly or the rain blurs his vision, and he can’t move—"

"That’s enough, Olivia." Jenna finally snapped. Not because she was angry, but because the young girl’s words seemed to make meaning, and Jenna was beginning to feel a rising ache in her forehead from overthinking and creating scenarios.

Olivia chewed her lips, but she didn’t say another word. "I’m sorry once again, Jenna." she mouthed before relaxing her back and looking out of the window.

Jenna did the same, but this time with her eyes closed. She needed to be stable and not let silly things occupy her mind when she should be cheering for Rhane.

For the rest of their ride, the carriage maintained an unsettling silence, but not without the noise from the friction against the cobblestones and moving wind. When the carriage stopped, Olivia was first to jump down, going to stand beside Lady Rachel.

Jenna followed, making sure she didn’t step on her dress. She still loved the simplicity and softness of the gown, despite the slight inconvenience she was still excited to have Rhane see it. Jenna’s imagination sailed wild, thinking of how Rhane would rip it off of her once she was in his arms.

Jenna bit her lower lip, this time would Rhane hide her in a carriage and slowly ruin her dress and makeup while still telling her how much he adores and cherishes her? Or would he wait after he wins to grab her waist and...Jenna blushed at her own thoughts.

Rhane was really having an effect on her that only left her thinking of him and his wonderful skills on her body.

"Jenna?" Lois whispered.

Jenna turned around with a low hum.

"Don’t worry about it...I’ll make sure I don’t step forward when your lover comes around. He wouldn’t see me in this dress," Lois said with a low voice only she and Jenna could hear.

Jenna raised her brows, she would have agreed but Lois didn’t know who actually her lover was and—"You were never keen on dressing for the men...I’m wondering what changed?"

Lois blushed, turning her face to the side. "I’ll let you know after the...but don’t be surprised." the young woman giggled to herself.

Jenna smiled along, she was surprised that a man was able to melt the heart of a woman like Lois. And what man could it be? Because Gerald was an idiot, that can be confirmed easily with discernment. Hart was a...well, a gentleman, and Lois already thinks he’s her man. And as for Rhane...she wouldn’t be thinking about Rhane now, would she?

No.

Jenna shook her head. The young woman had insulted Rhane, putting him in the same position as Gerald, she won’t turn around and dress up for him. Jenna nodded to herself, or maybe she wanted to believe herself so much.

"They are here! The men, they are getting ready!" Olivia ran back to them excited, she tugged their hands. "They’re hunting first, come see them."

Jenna forgot about everything else and ran along with the girl, she could see Rhane holding up a bow and picking the arrows with seriousness.

"I heard they would hunt first, then make a meal from it...also there will be a drinking contest and um..." the girl bit her lips, "Oh yes...the trial of veil and finally hearts..."

Lois inhaled, "The trial of veil...the mountain is usually slippery during this time. Someone almost lost their life the last time," the woman muttered worriedly.

"Rhane..." Jenna whispered when her eyes met with Rhane’s. For a brief moment he smiled in her direction before he turned to leave with others. Jenna clasped her hands together, placing them on her chest. She had the confidence that Rhane would return in no time, hunting wouldn’t be a task. And for that...Jenna wasn’t worried a bit.

It was going to end soon...

"Please don’t win," Lois murmured her own prayers, her eyes on Rhane. She noticed he was looking in her direction...it looked like he was looking in her direction Lois corrected. She followed Rhane’s eyes and found it was Jenna who was smiling.

Lois dropped her hands to her side, her lips parted. "It was him...Jenna wanted him?"
