The Last King Of Darkness
Chapter 1254 - 629: Time of Calamity
CHAPTER 1254: CHAPTER 629: TIME OF CALAMITY
The Book of Knowledge, however, did not accept Eve’s words as the truth:
"If igniting the Primordial Fire could purify the world and bring back the light, then how did the Initial Fire become extinguished in the first place?"
Asa unusually agreed with the Book of Knowledge: "The Great Heavenly God was once a revered figure in some Doomsday Cults. Of course, this symbol has various meanings and might just be a coincidence in names, but none of the rumored Great Heavenly Gods possess the ability to save the world."
The Book of the Future, lying on the shelf asleep, suddenly spat upon hearing this.
"Heh, ’some’ Doomsday Cults, aren’t they just the Polluter Sect? I won’t even mention who the Great Sect Leader is, but that so-called Great Heavenly God, is not saving the world but polluting it."
Asa sneered coldly: "You can provoke all you want, you broken book. At that time, I was just influenced by the Supreme Will, unaware of the miracle of excrement, and had not embarked on the path to becoming the great Devourer King of Excrement. It was only after being saved by the Master that I truly understood the essence of power. As for the Great Heavenly God, at certain times, it is synonymous with the Source Heavenly God, and the throne of the Source Heavenly God is where the Life of Man ranks at the top on the Evil Thought Stele."
Rod couldn’t help but ask, "Do you think there’s some connection between them?"
Asa respectfully said, "Master, I’m not sure. The legends passed down from ancient times might have changed, been distorted, or interpreted arbitrarily. Unless we can gain a deeper understanding of the history of the Saint Rel Kingdom, it’s hard to make a judgment."
Rod nodded, noting Asa’s words, planning to delve deeper into these subjects once they reached the Saint Rel Royal City.
About an hour later.
They had traveled nearly 400 kilometers southwest.
This was a quarter of the journey to the Royal City. If they continued at this speed, they would reach the Royal City in four hours.
Evela optimistically believed they could even be faster.
Because the northern part of Saint Rel is essentially divided into two regions, with the Mist Mountain Range as the dividing line. Beyond the mountains lies the outer region, relatively more dangerous, while within the mountains is the inner region.
The Sword City guards the kingdom’s gate. It’s the core outpost of the outer layer. Its fall leads to the outer layer’s downfall, but the inner layer isn’t necessarily compromised.
Evela said, "If the Royal City responds quickly, it would swiftly support Mist City. It once held the same responsibility as Sword City, and over a thousand years ago, it was also a major stronghold defending the north of the kingdom... As long as Mist City can hold, the inner region might not suffer much, allowing us to move at full speed, and we might even contact the Church Court in Mist City."
Rod frowned. He felt things might not be so simple.
"But we can’t contact the Royal City... all communications are like stones sinking into the sea, with no response. The current black mist is not yet enough to block high-intensity spiritual communication."
Evela pondered, "The Black Fog Wall could very well be on the Mist Mountain Range, where dense black fog accumulates year-round. I think it might be what’s blocking our communication."
Vier said loudly, "Yeah, that’s probably it. Once we cross that Black Fog Wall, we’ll see the light."
Lance’s face was full of confidence:
"It’s like the darkness before dawn; we must go through the darkest times before seeing the sun."
Evela smiled and said, "The next day of the sun is coming soon. Surely Saint Rel can be reborn under the sun’s rays."
The gloomy atmosphere caused by the tragic scenes they witnessed along the way was dispelled. Even though Qingyu and the others didn’t understand what they were discussing, emotions were contagious. They also couldn’t help but become optimistic, and even after Rod translated it, they heartily agreed with their sentiments.
Yet Rod always felt something was off, as if a shadow of terror loomed over them, the wailing of the dead echoing in his ears, faintly and continually.
Soon, he identified the issue.
"Wasn’t Sword City attacked by the Abyss? Why don’t I sense the Abyss’s breath in these areas?"
Evela fell into deep thought, replying only after a moment: "Maybe, there is an Abyss Rift right beneath the Sword City’s plane, just that it hadn’t surfaced before."
"But why is there an issue only now?"
Evela pondered, "This might relate to the Sea of No Light and the Abyss beneath it. We’ve been stuck in Sword City for three months. Though these are short months, it’s been long enough for us. The area outside Sword City, even the entire north, falling into ruin, was inevitable. Within the Royal City, we might have been considered fallen warriors already."
Rod frowned, deducing that the only conclusion from this reasoning was that the Royal City also encountered a major catastrophe, which led them to choose to abandon the north.
And the source of the catastrophe is likely from No Light City and Dawn Horizon. Evela mentioned that before she lost contact, their Saint Heir and Saintess seemed to be in No Light City, working on some new plan.
If this plan disturbed the Abyss, causing an Abyss disturbance that not only brought disaster to the Royal City but also affected the distant Sword City.
This inference is quite logical.
But the issue is, there seem to be no more Abyss Rifts surfacing within the kingdom, no vast pollution or monsters from the Abyss. Even when in Sword City, Rod didn’t sense such things. Of course, that might be because he was too far away.
