The Long Road to Love: The Capable CEO Dad
Chapter 107: Grace Lynch’s Fall
CHAPTER 107: CHAPTER 107: GRACE LYNCH’S FALL
Eleanor Hollis inexplicably felt that this feeling was really nice, giving her a sense of peace.
"It’s okay."
She stepped out of his embrace, "Are you going to pick up Marcus this afternoon, or should I?"
Hugo raised his eyebrows, wondering why they couldn’t go together.
"I feel like what happened today was because of you; there must be someone in the office secretly in love with you. Last time in the cafeteria, you were too flamboyant."
So, was she trying to keep her distance from him?
Hugo reached out and gently pinched her cheek.
"Sometimes I think you’re kind, and sometimes I think you’re a bit cruel, but this cruelty seems to be directed only at me."
Eleanor didn’t speak; she hated trouble, especially trouble caused by a man.
"Alright, I’ll pick up the child in the afternoon. I know you don’t want to ride in the same car with me."
Eleanor nodded, then opened the office door and walked out.
Hugo returned to his chair, stared blankly at the documents in front of him, and finally sighed.
Although the surveillance footage was eventually retrieved, they still couldn’t find out who planted that snake.
Eleanor had to be extra cautious; whenever she left her seat for a while, she would check everything over again.
"Here’s the data you’ll need today, take a good look at it."
Near the end of the workday, Alice Warren placed a pile of things in front of her.
Eleanor knew about Alice because someone else told her; before she came, it was Alice who sat in this position.
"Okay."
She picked up the qualifications, feeling a pair of intense eyes on her. She looked up to find Alice watching her.
"You and the CEO... what is your relationship?"
Eleanor dreaded this question the most, and she felt that Alice seemed to have thoughts about Hugo.
"Just ordinary friends."
A fleeting gleam appeared in Alice’s eyes, and her smile grew more complex, "I thought you were... never mind, I misunderstood."
Alice was twenty-five years old this year and had been with the company for two or three years. Everyone knew about her affection for Hugo.
However, she didn’t dare do anything while Hugo was still married. Now that Hugo was divorced, she would drop by his office to report every few days.
"CEO, let me accompany you to tonight’s social engagement."
She had specially put on beautiful makeup today and wore a fiery red dress. Even the stylist said she looked great in shades of red.
"No need."
Hugo frowned at the document in his hand, noting that Alice handled it well, and casually set it aside.
"Anything else?"
Alice’s smile froze for a moment; every time she showed enthusiasm, it was effortlessly deflected by this person.
She used to accompany him to almost all social events.
"If there’s nothing else, leave."
Hugo turned on his computer, seemingly not noticing her dress or makeup today at all.
Alice’s smile stiffened, and she left the office reluctantly.
Her current position at Grandeur was earned through her own efforts, and this person had inexplicably made her vacate her spot for Eleanor.
At first, Alice felt unwilling, but since Hugo didn’t demote her and merely transferred her to another department with the same status, she resigned herself to it.
But recently, seeing Eleanor frequently visiting his office and staying inside for long periods each time, she was genuinely a bit jealous.
She certainly didn’t believe Eleanor’s lie about just being friends with the CEO. She once noticed Eleanor’s lips.
After leaving the CEO’s office, Eleanor’s lipstick was gone. Even a fool would know what they were doing inside.
Alice’s gaze wandered over to Eleanor. She truly didn’t see any appeal in this woman.
Eleanor felt Alice’s gaze but continued doing her work quietly.
This made Alice feel as if her punch had landed on cotton—weightless and quite frustrating.
Walking to a corner, her phone screen lit up. The other party suggested she become friends with Eleanor and gradually gain her trust.
So now, she couldn’t do anything but had to maintain a good relationship with her.
When it was time to leave work, Hugo walked over to Eleanor and knocked on her desk, "I’ll pick up the child, leaving the car for you. You take the car home."
"No need, I’ll just take a cab home."
Eleanor replied, already standing up.
Hugo entered the elevator with her, thinking she was still on edge over what had happened at noon.
"Someone tampered with the surveillance, so we can’t identify who put the snake there. But I’ve replaced the staff in the surveillance room, so if that person acts again, they’ll be caught."
Eleanor nodded, her face relaxing a bit, "I’ll go home and cook first, bring Marcus back early."
The two parted at the company entrance. Eleanor was about to hail a cab when she saw Grace Lynch appearing nearby.
Despite wearing huge sunglasses, she recognized Grace at a glance.
Grace sat in a luxury car, which wasn’t Nathaniel Quinn’s. Besides, Nathaniel wouldn’t come to Grandeur.
After a while, a bald man walked toward the car. Eleanor recognized him, seemingly a company director here for business with Grandeur.
Her gesture to hail a cab froze because she saw Grace embracing the man, and the two kissed in the car. As the window wasn’t closed, she had a clear view.
Grace and the man were kissing passionately. Looking up, she saw Eleanor watching them.
She stiffened all over, hastily closed the window, and instructed the driver to leave, her face turning pale.
"Honey, what’s wrong? Did you see someone you know?"
The man held her in his arms, his lecherous gaze fixed on her face, hands restless.
Grace feigned composure, gently snuggling into his arms.
"It’s nothing, just saw a woman I didn’t want to see."
After Nathaniel threw her out last time, she hadn’t seen him again, and he didn’t answer her calls. When she called again, she found she was blocked.
She never knew before that Nathaniel could be so ruthless.
She left the marriage with nothing, unable to take away anything belonging to Hugo. Plus, she had been spending extravagantly over the years, leaving her with no savings. Now she could only cling to this man.
This man had been secretly pursuing her before, so it was a mutual fit.
He could let her continue living a luxurious life, and that was enough.
"Let’s go. We’ll continue where we left off as soon as we get out of the car."
The man pulled her eagerly. Although Grace felt angry inside, she had nothing to say.
Eleanor stood there, watching as the car drove off into the distance. She truly hadn’t expected Grace to fall to such a level.
She laughed mockingly and waved for a cab to go home.
