The Long Road to Love: The Capable CEO Dad
Chapter 109: Only Hear the Newcomer’s Laughter
CHAPTER 109: CHAPTER 109: ONLY HEAR THE NEWCOMER’S LAUGHTER
Over time, the classmates also began to compare the two.
In fact, at that time, she was very uneasy because the cheerful Sasha Morgan became more and more silent each day.
Later, after the college entrance exams, everyone went their separate ways and never contacted each other again.
It was only in recent years that Sasha Morgan started becoming active in the class group. She started her own company and had a rich second-generation boyfriend, which was quite a comeback.
The high school classmates who used to look down on her all began to curry favor with her.
Eleanor Hollis tossed and turned, unable to sleep, constantly worrying about the class reunion.
It was only when the sky began to lighten that she finally fell into a daze.
The alarm clock rang right at seven, and she went to wash up with dark circles under her eyes.
Hugo Quinn saw her dark circles and was startled, holding her face to take a closer look.
"Did something happen to you? How did you become so haggard?"
Eleanor Hollis glanced at herself in the mirror; indeed, she looked rather worn. She raised a hand and gave her face a pat.
"I just had a nightmare, let’s hurry up and get ready for work."
Hugo knew she wouldn’t say, so it seemed like he’d have to ask Lan Yancy to investigate.
Now Marcus already had someone to take him to school, so they didn’t have to specifically detour to the school in the morning since the school and the company were not on the same route.
However, just before they reached Grandeur, Eleanor Hollis requested to get off the vehicle.
Hugo didn’t stop her, knowing her personality.
Holding some files, Eleanor Hollis fixed her appearance and slowly walked towards Grandeur’s main entrance.
From the corner behind her, Alice Warren stepped out, her fingers scraping the wall with a sharp noise.
She knew there was something between Eleanor Hollis and the CEO, damn it!
She took out her phone and called that woman, her tone resentful yet furious.
"I saw her get out of the CEO’s car; it looks like they’re living together, I truly can’t wait any longer. When exactly do you plan to deal with her?!"
Her jealousy of Eleanor Hollis was driving her crazy; how could she follow that person’s advice to make friends with Eleanor Hollis?
"Haste makes waste, Alice. Eleanor Hollis is a soft-hearted woman. As long as you can earn her trust, it will be easier to do other things."
Alice Warren stiffened all over, taking a few deep breaths slowly.
She knew that woman was right. After all, Eleanor Hollis had the CEO’s protection now. Even if she really wanted to do something, it would be difficult. She might as well be straightforward and make friends with her.
"I understand. I’ll do my best."
After hanging up, she walked towards Grandeur.
As soon as she entered the top-floor office, she saw Eleanor Hollis carrying a cup of coffee into the CEO’s private office, her face twisting at the sight.
Rumors had been swirling around the top-floor office these days, mostly about Eleanor Hollis and the CEO.
But because of Hugo Quinn’s status, they dared not gossip too loudly.
"That Eleanor Hollis must be involved with the CEO; otherwise, how could she push Alice Warren aside?"
"Yeah, Alice used to be quite favored by the CEO."
"Only see the newcomer smile, not the old cry."
Everyone didn’t know Alice Warren had arrived and so continued to chat heedlessly.
A colleague who looked up accidentally saw Alice standing near them, almost jumping in fright, and quickly signaled for everyone to stop talking.
Alice Warren’s face was sullen, "If you can’t control your mouths, you can roll out of the top-floor office early. If I hear these things again, I won’t hesitate to mention it to the CEO."
The colleagues quickly fell silent, knowing how much the CEO hated people gossiping behind his back.
"Ms. Warren, we know we were wrong, we won’t do it again."
"Ms. Warren, we were just feeling wronged for you. That Eleanor Hollis has only been here for a few days, and she’s already earned the CEO’s trust. You had been in that position for so long, weren’t you really willing to just hand it over?"
Alice Warren wasn’t foolish; there were no friendships in this top-floor office.
These people merely wanted to watch her and Eleanor Hollis fight to the death so they could benefit from it.
"My matters have nothing to do with you, mind your own business."
After saying that, Alice Warren strode to her place.
The colleagues, seeing she wasn’t going to take the bait, could only lower their heads and pretend to get back to work.
Ten minutes later, Eleanor Hollis came out of Hugo’s office with a pile of new documents in her arms—tasks that had to be completed today.
She sat down at her desk, instinctively checking the drawers to ensure there were no unpleasant surprises before concentrating on the documents.
"If there’s anything you don’t understand, you can ask me."
Alice Warren walked past her with a cup, speaking gently.
Eleanor Hollis looked up, not knowing what this woman meant; nonetheless, she couldn’t refuse after being offered help, so she just nodded.
"I used to work in this position, so I’m more familiar with many things than you are."
Alice Warren seemed to just be stating a fact without any intention to brag, her face carrying a consistently amicable smile.
"Alright, thank you."
Eleanor Hollis’s voice grew a little more sincere and then she continued studying the documents.
When it was time for lunch, Alice Warren came over to her side voluntarily.
"I see you have lunch alone every day, why don’t we eat together from now on? I’m alone too, so we can keep each other company."
Eleanor wanted to refuse, as she wasn’t used to dining with strangers.
But this was the only woman who showed her kindness, even though she couldn’t understand why.
"Okay."
She agreed right away, heading to the cafeteria with Alice Warren.
The people in the top-floor office initially thought Alice Warren and Eleanor Hollis would be at each other’s throats, but they were surprised to see the two dining together instead.
This lunch companionship continued for a month, and Eleanor Hollis went from feeling constrained to occasionally chatting with her.
Including work matters, she occasionally asked Alice Warren for advice, discovering that Alice truly knew her stuff.
"I’m sorry, Eleanor, I initially thought you and the CEO had that kind of relationship, which is why I was hostile towards you."
Alice Warren spoke graciously, a slight blush on her face.
"I’ve liked the CEO since my first day at Grandeur. He was married before, so I didn’t dare do anything. Now that he’s divorced, I’m quite happy about it."
Eleanor Hollis didn’t expect Alice Warren to tell her this, and she felt a bit embarrassed.
Over the past month, Alice repeatedly inquired about her relationship with Hugo, which she denied, leading Alice to believe her and become more genuine towards her.
Eleanor Hollis actually felt a bit guilty because she wasn’t truthful with her.
"Eleanor, do you think I should pursue the CEO? He seems rather cold. When I was in your position before, he never said an extra word."
Seeing Alice Warren’s earnest and candid expression, Eleanor felt even more despicable and hurried to comfort her.
