CHAPTER 2: CHAPTER 2: YOU WERE SHAMELESS BACK THEN
"Then return the bracelet my grandmother gave me. It’s a family heirloom passed down through generations. Now my grandmother is ill and needs a lot of money."
This has always been Eleanor Hollis’s plan. Either she gets a divorce and takes alimony to treat her grandmother’s illness, or she gets the bracelet back and sells it for money to treat the illness.
"You want the bracelet?! Eleanor Hollis, you’ve been married into the Quinton Family for five years, eating from us, wearing our clothes, and now you want to take back your dowry! Let me tell you, if it wasn’t for your shameless act of climbing into my brother’s bed and losing a baby for him, do you really think our family would care for you?!"
Nathaniel Quinn’s sister, Joelle Quinn burst in from outside, her gaze toward Eleanor Hollis was as if it had been poisoned.
Eleanor Hollis’s face turned pale; that incident was a deep pain in her heart.
If it hadn’t happened, she could have completed her college education instead of marrying Nathaniel Quinn so early.
"Nathaniel, my grandmother is ill and needs money. You’ve always wanted a divorce, right? Just give me a million, and I’ll sign immediately."
Her tone was somewhat conciliatory; a million to Nathaniel Quinn was nothing.
The incident back then caused an uproar. Nathaniel Quinn, under pressure, married her, yet over the years he had never touched her, showing clearly how much he loathed her.
She was almost begging; her grandmother’s biggest worry was her marriage. Plus, her grandfather when he was alive, wished for her to marry into the Quinton Family and be taken care of.
So for five years, she had forced herself not to divorce.
But to others, it seemed she was clinging shamelessly to the Quinton Family.
"Slap!"
A heavy slap landed on her face, causing Eleanor Hollis’s head to tilt, her ears ringing.
Joelle Quinn was filled with rage; she had endured enough over the years, being criticized for the incident back then.
Clearly, her brother was such a great person, yet forced to marry this sister-in-law no one cared for! Now she even wants a million, dream on!
"You want a divorce from my brother, right?! Hurry up and sign; the bracelet is with me. As soon as you sign, I’ll return the bracelet to you!"
Eleanor Hollis, unjustly slapped, would have retaliated according to her true nature.
But now her grandmother was seriously ill, and the bracelet was valuable. If she could successfully sell it, her grandmother’s condition would surely improve.
She saw the bracelet in Joelle Quinn’s hand and knew Joelle had flaunted it often over the years. Such a quality couldn’t be found a second time in Serenford.
Eleanor Hollis didn’t have time to feel upset about her face; she grabbed the pen and signed, feeling relieved—this was her goal for tonight.
Nathaniel Quinn watched her finish signing, expressionless as he took the divorce agreement, signing his name, eager to get rid of this woman.
He had thought about divorce countless times before, but the old man felt indebted to Eleanor Hollis and always favored her.
This time she initiated the divorce, and the old man likely had nothing to say—the marriage was certainly ending!
"I’ve signed the papers. Can you return the bracelet to me now?"
Eleanor Hollis stood up, reached out to take it, but saw a malevolent glint in Joelle Quinn’s eyes as the priceless bracelet shattered to pieces on the floor.
Along with it, the hope of saving her grandmother shattered into fragments.
"No!!"
