The Long Road to Love: The Capable CEO Dad
Chapter 322: Not the Sullivan Family’s Daughter
CHAPTER 322: CHAPTER 322: NOT THE SULLIVAN FAMILY’S DAUGHTER
In the departing car, Evan Yancy held Samantha Sullivan tightly.
Samantha curled up into a ball and said nothing, the atmosphere in the car was very oppressive.
The car finally arrived at Hugo Quinn’s villa, and Evan opened the car door, signaling them to get out.
"Don’t worry, I’ll take good care of her."
He said calmly to Eleanor Hollis, who nodded, as if trusting his words.
She was truly worried about Samantha’s state; right now, she wasn’t saying a word, and might end up doing something rash.
She watched the car drive away, then sighed, never expecting that Samantha’s parents would be such people, using their daughter as a tool to retaliate against Evan.
"Is Samantha really their daughter? Would parents really treat their daughter like that?"
She looked up at Hugo Quinn, clutching his sleeve tightly.
"Don’t worry, I will have someone investigate the matter, I want to know too."
Previously, no one had ever doubted Samantha’s identity, after all, she’d always gotten along well with her family, and she never spoke about family matters externally. But after personally witnessing it this time, they realized Samantha’s status within her family. If she wasn’t the Sullivan Family’s biological daughter, everything would make sense; otherwise, how could any parents be so heartless?
Hugo’s people were quick, and the events of those years were thoroughly investigated. However, the results showed that Mom Sullivan brought back only two children after giving birth at the hospital back then.
"We found a few doctors who had long retired. They confirmed that before giving birth, Mom Sullivan was only expecting one child, but afterward, she brought back two. Judging by her current attitude towards Samantha, it’s likely Samantha isn’t her daughter."
Hugo looked at the report, his furrowed brow finally relaxing.
"At least now Samantha won’t feel guilt in her heart anymore. Didn’t she always care most about her family?"
Eleanor looked at the report without saying a word. In truth, she couldn’t understand why Samantha still cared about her parents despite everything. What are such parents good for? Over the years, Samantha had supported herself financially without relying on the family. What Dad and Mom Sullivan gave her was merely a kindness when she was a child.
Hugo took the report from her hand and handed it to Lan Yancy beside him.
"Go give it to Evan Yancy."
Lan nodded, took the report, and immediately headed out.
Evan and Samantha once had a home, but ever since their relationship was discovered, Evan had been living alone these past few days.
Lan handed the report to him through the door crack, saw Samantha curled up on the sofa.
"Thank you."
Evan took the report, glanced over it, and closed the door.
"Samantha, you’re not the Sullivan family’s daughter."
He organized the papers, then slowly sat beside Samantha and saw her still pale.
But after hearing his words, there was finally some flicker in her eyes.
"Is what you’re saying true?"
She didn’t know what she was expecting, her eyes widened, slowly turning to the report.
"This is what Hugo had people investigate. Do you think parents would really treat their daughter like that? Samantha, stop compromising for that family. When Mom Sullivan took you home, no one knows what her intentions were."
Samantha remained silent, staring blankly at the report before slowly closing her eyes.
"In truth, they’ve always been indifferent towards me. When I was young, I was hurt. I thought as long as I behaved well enough, my parents would definitely like me. My brother was always the apple of the family’s eye, and he spoiled me a lot, yielding everything to me. It wasn’t until after my brother’s accident that my parents turned their attention to me. Recently, I realized they weren’t focusing on me because they felt they owed me and wanted to make it up, but to use me to hurt you."
Her fingers clenched the report tightly, her eyes dry, unable to shed a single tear anymore.
"I will get to the bottom of your identity."
Evan held her in his arms, felt her resistance, and sighed lightly.
"I don’t mind what has happened to you, Samantha. Don’t live in others’ sins. Everything with the Sullivan Family has nothing to do with you."
Samantha’s body tensed, then slowly relaxed.
"If I had agreed to leave with you earlier, maybe none of this would have happened. It’s my own fault for being too soft-hearted with my family; I deserve it."
She gave a self-deprecating laugh, her nose souring.
She’s been too foolish. She thought she was carefree, but even after her family started harming her, she kept choosing to trust them again and again.
Before, she thought Eleanor was too foolish, wasting five years with the Quinton Family, but reflecting on it, Eleanor had obtained everything from the Hollis Family and cut ties with her parents.
She was clear-headed, and the most foolish one was Samantha herself.
"It’s alright, the past is gone. Now, no one will disturb us anymore."
Evan held her, truly at a loss for what to say to console her,
The two embraced like that for a while, neither saying another word.
Samantha no longer had the energy to entangle herself with whose child she really was, because from this moment on, she only had Evan, and in the future, he would be the only one for her.
The experiences of the past few days felt like a nightmare; at times, she even thought of ending it all, but when she picked up a shard of glass in the bathroom, she ultimately lacked the courage to do it.
Perhaps her parents anticipated she might consider suicide; afterward, they removed all sharp objects, trapping her in that cage, unable to do anything.
She would never go back again. If she wasn’t the Sullivan family’s daughter, then she no longer had the duty to silently endure their harm.
Days passed quietly. At the hospital, a gasp escaped from Dad Sullivan and Mom Sullivan around noon because their son had woken up, even if only briefly. Both of them saw it, their son had indeed opened his eyes!
"Honey! Did you see that?! Our son was awake for a moment!"
If a person in a vegetative state truly wakes up, it means their son would not fall into a deep sleep again.
The doctor, upon hearing the news, rushed over, performed a full-body check-up on Chelsea Sullivan, and finally looked at Dad and Mom Sullivan with a smile.
"Congratulations, his body has already recovered, but having been asleep for years, his leg muscles have atrophied a bit. At first, walking might feel unfamiliar, so please support him in exercising more, and he’ll fully recover soon."
Mom Sullivan’s heart was filled with excitement, continuously thanking the doctor.
After the doctor left, the two of them excitedly stayed by the bedside, hoping Chelsea would wake again.
In the evening, Chelsea indeed woke up once more. This time, he remained conscious a bit longer, furrowing his brows at the two people before him.
"Mom, Dad, why do you look a bit older?"
