CHAPTER 366: CHAPTER 366: THE TRUTH CAN’T STAY HIDDEN
"Two."
Hugo Quinn reached out and affectionately ruffled his hair.
Marcus squinted with satisfaction and then looked at them with a smile.
"First, I want Dad and Mommy to reconcile now. Second, you have to kiss Mommy, for ten minutes."
After saying this, he took out his watch, "It has to be ten minutes. Adults must keep their promises, you promised, so you have to do it."
Warmth flashed in Hugo Quinn’s eyes. He thought the child would want a yacht or amusement park, but he didn’t expect Marcus to be sensitively aware of the adults’ emotional issues.
He glanced at Eleanor Hollis and found that although Eleanor’s face was flushed, she didn’t refuse aloud. If it were any other time, she probably would have spoken out long ago.
"Okay."
He agreed softly, then turned and pressed his lips against Eleanor Hollis’s.
Eleanor Hollis’s heart was about to jump out. She truly felt that she hadn’t pampered this child in vain, as he was reliable at critical moments.
It seemed she hadn’t kissed Hugo Quinn in a long time. Feeling his breath and tenderness made her entire body soft, collapsing into his arms.
Hugo Quinn felt the same way. His kiss deepened, and the tenderness in his eyes seemed to overflow.
As soon as ten minutes passed, he released her, wiping his lips calmly, although his heart was already surging.
Both of them were silent for a moment, neither knowing what to say.
"Dad, Mommy, since you’ve reconciled, can we move back to our old home? I miss the aquarium there; it still has so many jellyfish."
Marcus put away the report card. Earlier, he didn’t care much about his grades, but now he was indescribably happy seeing Dad and Mommy reconcile because of his grades.
"Okay, we’ll move back."
Hugo Quinn promised, then turned to glance at Eleanor Hollis.
"What about you, are you willing?"
Eleanor Hollis blushed and was about to nod but her face froze as she thought of something.
Samantha Sullivan’s video was still with Old Master Quinn. If he knew she hadn’t left Hugo Quinn’s side, would he immediately release that video? If so, Samantha Sullivan would be ruined.
The past few days with Hugo Quinn had been sweet; she almost forgot about this matter. But now, she was ultimately brought back to the real world.
"I..."
She uttered a word, then fell silent.
Hugo Quinn’s brows furrowed tighter. He was now more sure that Eleanor Hollis was hiding a secret from him. When they kissed earlier, it was so intimate, she was so engaged; she clearly wasn’t indifferent. So why refuse to go back?
Could she be threatened?
Hugo Quinn’s face darkened, carefully eliminating a few people in his mind, finally pinpointing Old Master Quinn. The one who most wished for his and Eleanor Hollis’s separation was undoubtedly Old Master Quinn.
Understanding this, he remained unchanged in expression.
"You take Marcus back to the apartment first. I’ll have the doctor accompany you back; take good care of your health these next few days."
Eleanor Hollis nodded in disappointment. She did want to spend more time with him but dared not gamble with Samantha Sullivan.
After they left, Hugo Quinn slowly rose, putting on his coat.
"Lan Yancy, give me a listening device."
His face showed no expression, but Lan Yancy felt inexplicably afraid, sensing something major might happen.
Soon, he brought the most advanced listening device available. It looked like chewing gum but could stick anywhere and pick up sounds clearly within ten meters.
Hugo Quinn placed it on his sleeve, then left the ward, heading to Old Master Quinn’s room.
Old Master Quinn wasn’t on the same floor as him.
Recently, Old Master Quinn’s health had slightly improved but still wouldn’t last long, likely a brief resurgence.
After entering, Hugo Quinn sat on a chair next to him.
"Dad, how’s your health?"
Old Master Quinn felt gratified; his son finally knew to take the initiative to visit him.
They had too many unpleasant moments between them, and hadn’t talked heart-to-heart like they used to in a long time.
"I know my own health best."
Hugo Quinn stuck the listening device under the bed, his face expressionless.
"Listen to the doctor and eat on time."
A smile appeared on Old Master Quinn’s face, setting aside the newspaper in his hand.
"I just miss Marcus. He hasn’t come to see me in a long time."
Marcus is Eleanor Hollis’s child; mother and son share a bond. No wonder the child was biased towards Eleanor Hollis from the start; he hadn’t realized it.
But now, things had reached this point where mistakes could only be made as they were.
"I’ll have Marcus visit you."
Hugo Quinn stayed in the ward for a while, then got up.
"Marcus scored full marks in the finals; remember to prepare gifts."
Old Master Quinn’s face was filled with smiles, waving his hand, "Don’t worry, he’s my grandson. Whatever he wants, I’ll give him."
Hugo Quinn left and returned to his ward.
"Lan Yancy, bring the laptop."
Lan Yancy didn’t know why he suddenly went to see Old Master Quinn, but nodded and quickly handed the laptop over.
Hugo Quinn opened the laptop, entered a string of numbers, then listened quietly.
All the sounds from Old Master Quinn’s room could be heard clearly.
However, Old Master Quinn was unaware of all this.
After Hugo Quinn left, Old Master Quinn sighed heavily and stared blankly outside.
The bodyguard suddenly walked in and spoke respectfully.
"Old Master, Eleanor Hollis did not leave Serenford. She’s not on that plane, and there’s no one received over there."
Old Master Quinn’s face showed no expression, guessing easily where Eleanor Hollis was now.
"Hmm, I know."
The bodyguard’s face showed a bit of difficulty, knowing? Then again, hadn’t Old Master Quinn always opposed Eleanor Hollis being around the Fourth Young Master?
"Don’t bother with her for now, and delete Samantha Sullivan’s video. It might not be used in the future; don’t let Hugo know about these things. He cares so much about Eleanor Hollis; if he learns I used Samantha’s video to threaten her, he might get very angry."
Old Master Quinn rubbed his temples worriedly. Had he known Marcus was Eleanor Hollis’s child, and that Eleanor was indeed the woman with Hugo that night, he wouldn’t have stopped them from being together, as she’s Marcus’s biological mother.
But now, everything he did had pushed their relationship to an irreparable state; he believed that even if he apologized to Eleanor now, she wouldn’t forgive him.
Moreover, he had caused the death of her unborn child.
Thinking about this, Old Master Quinn felt very afraid that the paper wouldn’t cover the fire. If Hugo found out the whole truth, how would he deal with him?
Though he was a dying man, being hated by his own son was something he didn’t want to see.
