CHAPTER 367: CHAPTER 367: SOMEONE CUT MY BRAKES

But everything in the room had already been eavesdropped on clearly by the bug.

Hugo Quinn stared at the computer in front of him, listening to the voices coming from it, his heart slowly sinking into an unseen abyss.

The old man used Samantha Sullivan’s video to blackmail Eleanor Hollis, forcing Eleanor to compromise. And that child, what happened to the lost child?

Thinking of that possibility sent chills through his body, causing him to tremble slightly.

If the child’s death was related to the old man, how would he face all of this?

Hugo Quinn closed the laptop, suddenly no longer wanting to continue listening.

Lan Yancy was standing just outside the hospital room, and upon hearing the door open, quickly turned around.

"President, you should stay in the hospital and rest for a while."

Hugo shook his head in confusion, only feeling his steps were heavy.

"Go find Eleanor Hollis."

He didn’t know what else he could do besides finding Eleanor; it seemed that only seeing her could give him a little peace of mind.

Seeing his distraught state, Lan Yancy dared not say anything more and quickly followed him downstairs.

Eleanor was still worried about the old man’s escalating revenge when she heard that Hugo had already arrived.

She froze on the sofa and shrank back as she saw the man approaching.

Hugo’s eyes were very red, and his nose felt sour. If the child’s death were related to the old man and Eleanor knew all about it but didn’t tell him, then the pain for Eleanor would be doubled because he was also misunderstanding her at that time.

He opened his mouth but couldn’t utter a word, suddenly pulling her into his arms, tears streaming down.

Eleanor felt something cold fall down her neck; she shivered a bit and stopped moving.

"Eleanor..."

Hugo choked out those two words, holding her even tighter, his whole body shaking.

Eleanor also wanted to cry, probably influenced by the emotion; the prolonged suppression made her feel uncomfortable, so she cried along.

"Eleanor, I’m sorry. Let’s not have children anymore, never again. Okay? Let’s just be together, happily."

The doctor had already said that Eleanor’s body had been fundamentally damaged. Previously, it was difficult for her to become pregnant, and now the chances were almost zero.

And all of this was caused by someone close to him. What right did he have to blame Eleanor? He could only blame himself for not protecting her well.

Eleanor’s tears flowed even harder. During this time, she hadn’t wanted to bring up the child, as if by doing so, none of it had happened.

But now, when Hugo mentioned it, the pain in her heart was overwhelming. That was her and Hugo’s first child, gone without even realizing it.

"Husband..."

She nestled in his arms, tears falling in large drops.

"I’m sorry, I should have protected our child, but I didn’t expect, didn’t expect she would..."

The ’she’ referred to Rachel Lynch. She hadn’t expected Rachel to act; ultimately, she had been too soft-hearted.

Hugo embraced her with red-rimmed eyes, letting out a faint sigh of relief.

"Don’t worry, the old man won’t trouble you anymore."

He had heard the old man’s words; it seemed the old man didn’t intend to deal with her any further, but the damage was already done and irreversible.

Eleanor pressed her lips together. So, he knew?

She looked down, biting her lip silently.

"The New Year is coming soon. I’ll take you to the countryside for the holidays, okay? Let’s visit Granny."

Hugo lifted his hand to wipe away the tears on her face, speaking with heartache.

Eleanor nodded; she truly wanted to return to the countryside. At least for this period, she didn’t want to stay in Serenford.

Hugo prepared quickly, telling no one, not even planning to inform the old man.

The three of them rarely had a meal at home together. Marcus went upstairs to do his winter vacation homework, and Eleanor took the opportunity to take out the divorce agreement.

She didn’t want to divorce him, not even if it meant shamelessly sticking by his side.

Hugo saw her staring blankly at the agreement and reached for it, tearing it into pieces with two movements.

"This is fake and has no legal effect. At that time, I sensed you might have your reasons and intended to pressure you a bit, but you wouldn’t say anything. Eleanor, if only you had told me, we could have faced it together. What the old man cares about is nothing more than me. If he could use Samantha to threaten you, why couldn’t you use me to threaten him?"

This woman was just too kind-hearted; kind people always end up getting bullied.

"But you are my husband."

She would rather suffer a little herself than point the blame at Hugo.

This man was the only one who wholeheartedly cared for her, apart from Granny.

"You can discuss it with me. Next time, don’t bear it all alone. We are already married, so we are one. The old man threatening you is threatening me."

He held her hand, kissing it at his lips.

Eleanor didn’t speak, but her heart was filled with emotion.

She didn’t understand why the old man suddenly decided not to go against her. She didn’t want to delve into this issue but simply wanted to go to the countryside with him, living a few peaceful days.

In the evening, Hugo was upstairs handling matters with Apex. His methods were strong, and since the old man didn’t really intend to do anything to Apex, its crisis was safely passed. The online public opinion was cleared overnight because the police investigation revealed that Apex was innocent, and the internal higher-ups were setting each other up; it was Apex’s own business.

Eleanor watched as things steadily improved, feeling a sense of relief, but something in her eyes flickered.

Perhaps all along, she had been too soft-hearted towards Rachel Lynch, which allowed the other to bully her step by step.

She called Lan Yancy in and whispered a few words in his ear.

Lan Yancy looked at her in surprise but didn’t ask why. He took the order and went to take care of it.

At nine in the evening, Rachel Lynch arrived at the hospital promptly; her son had been in a car accident an hour earlier, almost dying.

Upon hearing the news, her legs gave way, almost kneeling on the ground.

Finn Ford continuously patted her shoulder, comforting her. Doctors were constantly coming and going, and the lights in the operating room remained on.

Two hours later, the doctor came out and took off the mask.

"There is no danger to his life, but he will have to rely on crutches for the next five years. Pay attention to rehabilitation to help him get rid of the crutches as soon as possible."

Rachel breathed a sigh of relief but felt somewhat upset at hearing that he wouldn’t walk normally for five years.

She and Finn quickly rushed to the ward to see their son, but he just silently stared out of the window.

"Mom, did you offend someone outside?"

The boy was only sixteen, but his temperament was very calm.

Rachel’s heart trembled, instinctively thinking of Eleanor Hollis. However, Eleanor was kind and soft-hearted and would never do something like this.

"What’s wrong? Why are you saying that?"

The boy glanced at her faintly, "This was intentional. Someone cut my brakes."
