The Long Road to Love: The Capable CEO Dad
Chapter 386: Encountering an Air Disaster
CHAPTER 386: CHAPTER 386: ENCOUNTERING AN AIR DISASTER
Which flight did Eleanor Hollis say they were on yesterday?
He almost frantically pulled out his phone, and when he saw the same flight, he nearly passed out.
He didn’t even bother to put on his shoes and ran towards the airport, wanting desperately to reach there in a single step.
The airport was crowded with many people, and quite a few of those waiting to pick someone up seemed to already know the news, squatting on the ground and breaking down in tears.
Hugo Quinn couldn’t shed a single tear; he couldn’t believe it. Struck by lightning? The probability was extremely low, yet how did it happen to Eleanor Hollis?
Impossible.
He trembled as he reached out and inquired about the plane’s status at the window.
"I’m very sorry, sir. Our airline is fully investigating the direction of the plane crash. If there’s any news, you’ll be notified immediately."
The phone in Hugo Quinn’s hand slipped to the ground, his mind going completely blank.
Eleanor Hollis, Marcus, were both on that plane, and now someone was telling him it crashed...
His hand trembled as he covered his mouth, afraid that a hoarse cry might suddenly escape.
Crying surrounded him, as if it would tear the sky around this place apart.
Hugo Quinn was light-headed and slumped against a pillar, unable to move another step.
He raised his hand to touch his face and found it already wet, uncontrollably shedding tears.
His heart was contracting like crazy, trying to squeeze out all the oxygen, suffocating him.
Hugo Quinn had never felt so hopeless before, everything had faded into colorlessness and meaninglessness.
His eyes were long blurred, and he covered his heart with his hand.
It hurt, as if someone was stabbing him with a knife.
"Mommy, why is Daddy sitting on the ground?"
Marcus, holding Eleanor Hollis’s hand, asked in confusion.
Eleanor Hollis was puzzled too, wondering why someone would just sit on the ground while picking someone up.
She glanced around and found many people crying. After inquiring, she learned that there had been a plane crash.
Eleanor’s face stiffened, her heart heavy, as she slowly walked towards him with Marcus.
"Honey, why are you sitting here?"
Hugo Quinn heard the voice and thought he was hearing things. He coldly raised his head, only to see Eleanor Hollis standing with Marcus in front of him.
Marcus had a dismissive look on his face, staring at him speechlessly.
Hugo Quinn’s pupils slowly enlarged; how could the two of them be...
"Eleanor? Marcus?"
Eleanor reached out and pinched his face, and then probed his forehead. He wasn’t wheezing; what was wrong with him?
"I thought you..."
Hugo Quinn’s voice was hoarse, realizing he couldn’t bring himself to mention the word ’death’.
"Did you think we were on the crashed airplane? I remember telling you the flight yesterday and asking you to remember it."
"Sorry, I remembered wrong."
Hugo Quinn’s voice was hoarse, the ecstatic joy of regaining what was lost striking his heart fiercely.
"Mommy, let’s not reminisce here. The uncles and aunties around are so pitiful; the people they are waiting for will never come back."
Marcus whispered; their reminiscing was like rubbing salt into everyone’s wounds.
Eleanor hurriedly pulled Hugo Quinn away towards the airport’s exit.
Hugo Quinn was briefly dazzled by the sunlight outside, then realized it was all true; his wife and child stood safely by his side.
"Where’s your shoe?"
Eleanor looked down and noticed that Hugo Quinn was missing a shoe on one foot, with his sock dirty from stepping on the ground.
Hugo realized belatedly and looked down, then looked around for his shoe.
Seeing him so disheveled and frantic, Eleanor felt both heartache and a surge of affection; this man was surely scared out of his wits.
"Let’s get in the car first; where’s Lan Yancy? I asked him to pick us up."
She took out her phone and called Lan Yancy, intending to buy Hugo Quinn a pair of shoes while waiting, but there was no shoe store around, so she had to wait for Lan Yancy.
Lan Yancy knew Eleanor had already arrived only when he received her call.
When he came over, he saw his CEO with a pale face and missing one shoe, staring in surprise.
"CEO, where’s your shoe?"
Hugo Quinn felt embarrassed and hugged Marcus in his arms as soon as he got in the car.
"Just buy another pair, making a big deal of it."
Lan Yancy chuckled as he looked in the rearview mirror, amused. It was the first time he had seen his usually serious CEO like this.
He had been with the CEO for many years and witnessed his embarrassed moments, always related to Miss Hollis.
The car stopped at the manor entrance; Eleanor seemed familiar with the place as she had been here before.
But Marcus had never been here and was a bit dazed, admiring everything on the way.
"It’s so beautiful here, I thought the villa Daddy bought was already beautiful enough."
The country’s population isn’t as high as in Z country; with more land per person, it doesn’t feel crowded. Housing prices aren’t as outrageous as back home.
Hugo Quinn was wealthy back home but still found it challenging to build such a large manor in Serenford.
"Mommy, is this Uncle Crawford’s home?"
The manor was beautiful and vast, the car had to drive a while after entering the gate, like a university back home.
"Yes, let’s go in."
Eleanor led him inside and found the place empty; Cole Crawford wasn’t there.
"Where’s Cole Crawford?"
Wasn’t Cole Crawford there when she called?
"He went to find Xavier Crawford; it’s chaotic there, and he doesn’t feel at ease about his brother."
Eleanor nodded and sat on the sofa with Marcus.
Hugo Quinn suddenly came to her side, his eyes burning with intensity.
Having been with him for a while, Eleanor certainly knew what that look meant. She pointed outside at the sunlight.
It was still broad daylight; what was this man thinking?
But Hugo Quinn couldn’t care less; he hadn’t seen her for a long time, and after the scare just now, he was eager to have her.
"Marcus, why don’t you go play with Uncle Yancy for a while? I need to discuss something with your mommy."
As he spoke, he headed upstairs, pulling Eleanor with him.
Eleanor was mortified, although Marcus might not understand what he meant, Lan Yancy certainly did; how shameless could Hugo Quinn be!
Lan Yancy snickered on the side without looking up at them; Eleanor felt hopeless as she closed her eyes.
"Mommy, didn’t you say exercising isn’t good for you when you’re tired?"
Marcus said something shocking, causing Hugo Quinn to pause.
Where on earth did this kid learn such things?
He glanced at Lan Yancy, who shook his hands innocently.
"CEO, I didn’t teach the little darling these things; I guess he learned them on his own."
Such an ’autodidact’!
Hugo Quinn’s mouth twitched as he furrowed his brows helplessly.
"Leave adult matters to the adults, kids shouldn’t interfere."
