Chapter 388: Just a Child After All
CHAPTER 388: CHAPTER 388: JUST A CHILD AFTER ALL
"That sounds quite interesting. Tell them that if they can develop it, I’ll give them one month of freedom to go out and get some fresh air."
This month of freedom is precious to them because they haven’t seen the outside world for many years since they were captured. They don’t even know what it looks like now or how their family is doing.
"Okay, I will convey that to them."
The man’s voice sounded increasingly respectful.
Behind this drug lies endless wealth, no wonder the old lady is so concerned.
Hugo Quinn hid behind the curtain, listening to everything clearly. He was certain that the old lady and the man were talking about the group from the airplane incident.
The Crawford Family’s parents are geniuses in the field of medicine, and they’re likely imprisoned as well.
He wanted to stay longer and find out where those people were, but the man and the old lady didn’t discuss this further.
Hugo had no choice but to quietly follow the man as he left.
The man is the most trusted by the old lady, having the most authority in the entire estate aside from her.
Hugo followed behind him, noticing the man suddenly turning around, and quickly hid in a corner. This man’s alertness was too high, and if Hugo hadn’t been cautious all along, he would have been discovered long ago.
There are many villas in the estate; those who enter the Wexler Family’s service almost all live there.
There are many standalone villas here, and the man’s residence is one of them.
Hugo followed him easily and waited in the man’s bedroom.
The man went to the study to read for a while, but as soon as he returned to the bedroom, a gun was pointed at his head.
His face stiffened, and he realized Hugo’s face was covered with a mask, seemingly disguised, making it difficult to discern any features besides the eyes.
"Where are those people?"
Hugo spoke, deliberately lowering his voice.
This man was a favorite of the old lady, likely to have contact with her in the future, so Hugo had hastily covered his face.
"What people? I don’t know what you’re talking about."
The man’s expression was calm, slowly retreating.
But Hugo didn’t give him the chance, shifting the gun to his leg and firing accurately.
"I have little patience. The next shot will be to your head, so I advise you to best tell me."
The man’s leg had started bleeding, his face suddenly paling.
He had intended to stall Hugo but found himself decisively outmaneuvered, left with no opportunity.
"Where did the Wexler Family keep the people from the airplane incident? Think carefully before you speak, because once you’re dead, there’s nothing left for you."
Hugo’s eyes were icy, chilling the man’s heart.
He was very certain Hugo was serious, and deceiving him could lead to unimaginable consequences.
He didn’t want to die; he had wealth and power now and cherished life.
"In the Wexler Family’s basement, the basement of the villa where the old lady stays. It’s large and fully equipped with all the research facilities she mentioned. The most dangerous place is indeed the safest."
Hugo squinted; he couldn’t believe those people were in the Wexler Family’s basement.
Earlier, he and Cole Crawford had found the airplane in Africa, assuming they were likely imprisoned somewhere in the world, but surprisingly, the old lady was bold enough to place them directly in the family’s basement.
"Don’t tell anyone I’ve been here, or I’ll kill you just as easily. You’ve seen my ability, and the Wexler Family’s defenses are inadequate for me. If you utter one word, I’ll specifically come to settle accounts next time."
The man’s sweat increased; he had been considering telling the old lady about the intruder, but with Hugo’s threats, he felt his life more important.
This man was indeed strong, having followed him undetected.
The Wexler Family’s guard was so stringent, yet Hugo slipped in effortlessly—could he be an assassin?
He tightened his lips further, choosing silence.
Hugo leaped out of the window, having gathered the most useful information, he didn’t linger, quickly returning through his path, and gave his clothes to the guard behind a tree to prevent any doubt.
Meeting Lan Yancy, he removed his disguise with a look, and they hurried towards the Crawford Family.
"President, any clues?"
Lan Yancy had been on edge since Hugo went in. The Wexler Family was not benign, and if Hugo was found out, regardless of identity, they wouldn’t let him go, making the wait agonizing.
"Those people are in the Wexler Family’s basement. Breaking in will be extremely difficult. We need to find another opportunity to get in."
Returning to the Crawford Family, Hugo sighed in relief; knowing they were alive was enough.
He called Cole Crawford again, this time it connected, but Xavier Crawford answered instead.
"When will you be back?"
Once the Crawford brothers returned, he would share the news and they’d devise a plan together.
Xavier Crawford stared at his brother Cole collapsed in front of him, feeling his heart squeezed by a giant hand; his brother shot while saving him.
The city was rife with chaos, gunfire echoing everywhere. He brought him to the outskirts, not knowing what to do.
No doctor, no medicine, nothing—only a secluded mountain.
"Hugo, please come get me. My brother’s been shot, and the city is in chaos, all pharmacies looted, the bullet near his chest. He’s fading fast."
Xavier’s voice trembled as he spoke.
Hugo almost instantly rose from the sofa.
"Wait for me, I’ll come by private jet."
With Cole in critical condition, Hugo couldn’t delay, briefly alerting the villa before boarding the airplane.
The airport was chaotic but better than the city. Hugo located Xavier’s position and switched to a helicopter, flying over.
Xavier was almost in despair, repeatedly checking Cole’s breaths, fearing he’d suddenly pass.
"Hugo!"
Upon seeing Hugo, it was like seeing hope, his eyes red.
Indeed, he was still a child.
Hugo looked at him without speaking, his gaze directly landing on Cole’s chest, a large area of blood, the bullet near the chest; if surgery wasn’t immediate, he might truly be beyond saving.
