The Long Road to Love: The Capable CEO Dad
Chapter 392: Grace, I’m Sorry
CHAPTER 392: CHAPTER 392: GRACE, I’M SORRY
The Wexler Family has constructed these underground facilities over decades, even centuries, hidden beneath their estate. The villa where the matriarch lives is the only entrance, showing just how cautious the Wexler Family is.
Plus, all signals inside are suppressed. Fortunately, Hugo didn’t bring his phone inside. When passing through certain areas, these devices would emit sharp sounds.
Hugo Quinn roughly figured out the layout inside and headed toward the exit.
"Stop, who are you? How come I’ve never seen you here before?"
A man’s voice came, somewhat low, halting Hugo’s footsteps.
"Why does your face look so familiar?"
The man was already slowly approaching, and Hugo’s body froze. If this person recognized him, it could spell trouble.
"You’re Hugo Quinn!!"
The man screamed, immediately sounding the alarm in the room. The entire basement echoed with alarm sounds.
Hugo cursed under his breath and kicked the man unconscious, then dashed through the basement.
"Someone has broken in! Someone has broken in!!"
The men in charge kept shouting.
In no time, the whole basement was in chaos.
They only knew someone had broken in but didn’t know where the intruder was. All the cameras were deliberately sabotaged, indicating the intruder was well-prepared.
Hugo wandered inside for a while, noticing that the people in white clothing didn’t stop him. It seemed they were imprisoned here.
He calmly caught his breath and then hid inside a cabinet next to one of them.
Very soon, several people barged into the laboratory.
"Did anyone see the intruder?!"
They asked, but everyone in the lab silently continued preparing the medicines without speaking.
A few men were furious but eventually turned and went elsewhere to search.
Hugo breathed a sigh of relief. Despite his skills, dealing with that many guards alone was still disadvantageous. Moreover, he hadn’t brought a gun when he entered; no metal objects could pass through the entrance, leaving him without even a knife now.
"Who are you?"
Someone opened his cabinet, staring at him with brown pupils.
It was an elegant woman, though her entire body was enveloped in white attire, leaving only a gentle face exposed.
Hugo inexplicably felt the woman looked somewhat familiar.
"Do you know Xavier Crawford and Cole Crawford?"
In Cole’s photos, it seemed he had seen her.
Could she be Cole’s mother?
The woman covered her mouth in surprise, then cautiously glanced around.
"Honey, come here, this person knows Xavier and Cole."
She waved to someone in the distance, and soon, a man came over.
He was also a refined man. How strange, given Cole Crawford’s somber nature, his parents were so good-natured.
"Are you from outside? Are they well? My children, I haven’t seen them in years."
The woman spoke somewhat incoherently, gripping Hugo’s arm tightly.
"They’re fine. Xavier is about to marry the Wexler Family’s heiress."
Hugo told the truth, seeing the woman’s face suddenly turning grim.
"He can’t associate with the Wexler Family. They’re not good people. No, I need to get out. Can you help us escape?"
Hugo nodded; he could, but not now. He still needed to coordinate with Lan Yancy outside.
Lan Yancy had already contacted the local government. If the Wexler Family’s detention of so many people became exposed, they would face international condemnation.
The woman was agitated, continuously clasping her hands together.
The Wexler Family was also chaotic, with Martha causing disruptions.
The matriarch had already fainted from anger because Martha spoke rudely and even had someone hit Grace, trampling the Wexler Family’s dignity.
Onlookers dared not offend either side and could only do nothing.
Before long, Lan Yancy led local police to the scene, heading straight for the basement entrance.
Wedding guests saw the police and thought they were here to arrest Martha. However, the police ignored the situation altogether, sticking close to Lan Yancy.
Lan Yancy had a stern expression. When the CEO went in before, he mentioned that if he didn’t emerge within forty minutes, it meant the basement truly existed, urging him to bring the police swiftly and attempt to capture the Wexler Family in one go.
But the room was empty, and the captured guards said nothing, insisting he was making false accusations.
Lan Yancy was somewhat anxious, searching around the walls.
His peripheral vision constantly watched the captured guards, whose gaze always lingered on a particular spot on the wall.
A smile curled at his lips, and he promptly went there, found the switch, and pressed it.
Dozens of police officers descended the stairs. The room’s alarm had ceased, and the guards inside initially wanted to resist, but upon seeing so many police, their faces turned ashen, silently lowering their guns.
Hugo heard the commotion outside and finally came out.
"CEO."
Lan Yancy relaxed upon seeing Hugo unharmed.
The prisoners saw the police as a beacon of hope and began chattering to them.
The people from the plane were mostly here, but Hugo searched for a long time without finding the matriarch.
"Where is the Quinton Family’s matriarch?"
He asked around, yet everyone remained silent as the Crawford couple sighed.
"Her health wasn’t good, and she passed away after an illness. We don’t know where the body was taken."
Hugo’s heart sank instantly; he was initially excited, eager to see her and find out how she was now.
The reality turned out to be painfully brutal.
The police counted the people here and immediately reported to their superiors.
The Wexler Family’s halo was completely stripped away, and upon the news spreading, the entire international community was shocked. The investigation into the plane incident revealed they had been hidden by the Wexler Family, forced to continuously research drugs.
All Wexler Family members were implicated.
Grace Wexler was dazed as the police led her forward. She couldn’t believe it; today was supposed to be her wedding, but suddenly she was reduced to a prisoner.
"Xavier, were you scheming against me?"
Her heart was terrified, her hand trembled. She thought she was about to obtain both the Crawford and Wexler Families, but this person had calculated against her.
She had failed again, once more at Hugo’s hands, how ridiculous.
The colossal Wexler Family was effortlessly dismantled by them.
"I... I don’t believe it, I don’t believe it."
Her eyes reddened as she retreated, wishing desperately to rush into the bustling street, hoping to be struck dead by a car!
"Grace, I’m sorry."
