Chapter 399: The Blizzard Arrives
CHAPTER 399: CHAPTER 399: THE BLIZZARD ARRIVES
Marcus saw her in a daze and quickly grabbed her hand.
Eleanor Hollis smiled apologetically and put away her phone.
"Yes, I’ve learned it, Marcus, thank you."
Marcus felt a bit shy; it was the first time he had taught mommy something, and he felt very fulfilled.
The mother and son slid in the snow for a long time until dusk fell, and they slowly started walking back the way they came.
"Mommy, it’s getting late; we should head back early. This place is a bit eerie."
Marcus followed closely behind Eleanor Hollis, as they had been playing so intently that they unknowingly walked quite far.
Eleanor Hollis was actually quite scared too, but she had to appear like an adult in front of Marcus.
She held the child tightly and managed a faint smile.
"There’s nothing to be afraid of. Let’s follow this path back."
But the footprints underfoot were nearly gone, and the sky started to snow heavily—with large, fluffy snowflakes.
Eleanor Hollis frowned; the weather was good when they came out, so why had it suddenly started snowing heavily?
"Mommy, the snow has covered our footprints from when we came; what do we do now? We’ve lost our way."
It was bad enough that it was snowing, but then a fierce wind picked up, knocking down several signs, and suddenly they didn’t know which way to go.
"Marcus, hold on to me; it’ll be okay."
Eleanor Hollis tried to hold Marcus’s hand, but Marcus stumbled and fell down.
Turns out, there was a big pit beneath them, obscured by the snow, and neither of them saw it.
Without thinking of anything else, Eleanor Hollis jumped in after him.
"Boom!"
The hole was silent, and she couldn’t see anything, so she took out her phone and shone it around.
This was a natural cave; fortunately, it was relatively clean.
"Marcus, wake up."
The phone had no signal, and Marcus had fainted, so all they could do was wait for someone to rescue them.
Thankfully, she had brought a bag when they went out, and though she hadn’t thought much of it then, now it was going to save their lives.
Because there was water and food inside, enough to last them several days.
Now the snow outside was heavy, and after a while, everything would probably be covered in white snow, making it hard for them to be discovered, so they had to ration the food.
"Mommy."
Marcus made a weak sound and nuzzled into her arms, "Are we not going to get back?"
"No, Marcus, just sleep if you’re scared. I’m here with you. I brought a bag, so we won’t starve."
Marcus nodded, curled up in her arms without speaking; suddenly, he missed daddy, thinking if daddy were here, he’d surely save them quickly.
"Attention all guests, a snowstorm is coming soon. Please hurry back to your rooms and do not linger outside."
"A snowstorm is approaching. For everyone’s safety, please return to your rooms. There will be a designated person to check the number of people."
Such warnings echoed in the ski resort, and everyone hurriedly ran back to the hotel, staying quietly in their rooms.
Soon, the hotel manager came to do a headcount based on the check-in register, ensuring no accidents occurred.
But when they counted Eleanor Hollis’s room, they found she was not there, nor was the child.
"Has anyone seen the guests from room 4208, a beautiful lady and her son? Has anyone seen these two?"
The manager shouted into a loudspeaker in the corridor until someone opened a room door.
"That mother and son seemed to have gone into the mountains; they might be trapped. The snowstorm came unexpectedly at night; I was chatting with that lady back then."
The hotel manager’s face changed instantly and relayed this information to the rescue team.
But the snowstorm outside was growing stronger, making the rescue mission extremely difficult even if the rescue team entered the mountains.
The hotel staff were quick-witted enough to call the man who had come with Eleanor Hollis earlier.
Hugo Quinn answered the phone just as he was coming out of the bathroom; he had already instructed Lan Yancy to send Grace Wexler to the hotel.
"Mr. Quinn, hello. It’s like this: Your wife and child are now trapped on the mountain. Due to the sudden snowstorm, the rescue is very difficult. We hope you can come."
"I’ll be right there!"
Hugo Quinn said and was a bit stunned himself, but he didn’t have time to think much and immediately called Lan Yancy to arrange people to go.
Lan Yancy couldn’t stand Grace Wexler’s pretentiousness anymore; hearing Hugo Quinn’s call felt like being saved. He immediately went over there and contacted several people for the rescue.
Encountering a snowstorm in the mountains is very dangerous; if the storm is too strong, trees can be blown down easily, causing injury.
When the two of them arrived, the rescue mission had been underway for three hours.
Hugo Quinn’s people immediately joined in; he put on thick clothes and stood outside the hotel.
His heart was in turmoil, like something was tearing at his body, ready to burst out.
"Lan Yancy, prepare a car, and let’s head in."
The more people involved, the more hope there is for rescue; he couldn’t stand waiting here anymore.
Lan Yancy’s eyes flashed with amusement; no matter how strong the hypnosis on the boss was, the genuine concern for Miss Hollis emanating from his heart couldn’t be faked.
Hugo Quinn quickly got in the car, which drove toward the mountains.
All along the wind was blowing, something hit the car window, and the glass shattered instantly, like a spider web, looking terrifying.
"Tonight’s snowstorm is fierce, and it’s so dark one can see nothing."
Lan Yancy was worried about Hugo Quinn’s safety but also concerned for the stranded Miss Hollis and little Marcus. The group did not stop and continued driving further in.
The entire valley echoed with the roaring wind, their voices were tiny against it.
"Miss Hollis!"
"Eleanor!"
Hugo Quinn got off the car anxiously and started shouting around.
All he could see was endless whiteness; he desperately wanted to see them, but after turning everywhere here, there was still no sign of the two. Had something happened to them?
Thinking of this, Hugo Quinn clutched his chest tightly, where something seemed to be thumping wildly. His eyes were crimson as he gazed at the snowstorm, taking a deep breath.
The search and rescue went on all night, but there was no sign of them, as if they had completely vanished.
The snowstorm continued, trapping the skiers here and cutting off all contact with the outside world, making everyone anxious.
But the most anxious was Hugo Quinn.
So many people had gone out to search but couldn’t find any trace of them. Where could those two have possibly gone?
