CHAPTER 76: CHAPTER 76: I HAVE PLENTY OF MONEY

Hugo nodded, knowing this child wouldn’t let him suffer.

The car quickly stopped at Eleanor Hollis’s residence.

Hugo got out of the car holding Marcus and headed straight to the door.

Skillfully taking out the key, he intended to open the door. But after considering something, he put the key back in his pocket, then lowered his head to speak to Marcus.

"Marcus, let your mummy open the door."

Marcus looked at him strangely; this person had the key, so why not use it?

Seemingly understanding his thoughts, Hugo slowly squatted down, "Your mummy will be upset if she knows I have the key."

Only then did Marcus reluctantly press the doorbell.

Eleanor was already at home worrying about Marcus’s safety; now hearing the doorbell, she wished she could take three steps in one to get over there.

She opened the door and saw a big and a small figure standing outside, a trace of surprise flashing in her eyes.

"Marcus, were you okay? I’m sorry, I really couldn’t do anything at the time."

If she had forced the issue, this person might have gotten hurt as well.

"Mummy, don’t worry."

Marcus quickly comforted her, "I’m fine."

Eleanor looked at this child, and her eyes suddenly reddened.

She truly couldn’t bear to part with Marcus; this child was too obedient. If she couldn’t interact with him in the future, she might feel very lost.

Moreover, in facing Marcus, she felt a very special emotion, one she couldn’t quite articulate, as if the child had already taken root in her heart and was growing.

In fact, she didn’t want to admit that when she first met this child on that rainy night, she had a strange feeling.

The three of them sat inside, and she immediately busied herself with cooking.

Hugo watched her bustling around the kitchen, feeling unusually fulfilled, a joyful smile curling at the corners of his mouth.

"Marcus, what do you think of having her become your stepmother?"

He quietly leaned closer to his son, asking this.

Marcus almost nodded in agreement, his little face full of smiles, "Dad has good taste."

Hugo’s eyes glimmered; it turned out this child always had such an idea in mind.

How strange it was that he had no feelings for Grace Lynch at all, even though she was his mother.

What exactly did Grace do to make the child so averse? Isn’t there a saying that blood is thicker than water?

His brows knit together, "Why don’t you like Grace Lynch?"

He had wanted to ask this a long time ago, but at that time Marcus was always silent and wouldn’t speak a word for months or even a year.

"It’s a feeling."

Marcus furrowed his delicate brows; ever since he became conscious, he had a strong dislike for that woman—it seemed fake.

Even though everyone said she was his mom, he didn’t believe it; he felt his mom wouldn’t be like that.

In contrast, Eleanor was more to his taste.

On that rainy night, while sitting in the car, he noticed the woman walking in the rain.

How strange. Despite her being a mess at that time, he thought she was glowing.

Hugo reached out and touched her head, "In Daddy’s heart, you are the most important."

Father and son were exchanging emotions when they heard Eleanor speak, "Come over and eat."

Hugo immediately picked up the child and sat at the dining table.

Four dishes, two meat, one vegetable, and one soup.

He found himself falling in love with this kind of life, as if life had found a harbor to pause.

Eleanor’s culinary skills compared to the villa’s chefs were far inferior, but he damn well liked these simple meals to the extreme.

After the meal, he remembered Eleanor’s work situation and couldn’t help but frown.

"Did you resign?"

Hearing him ask, Eleanor felt an inexplicable annoyance. Today Sean Cameron called her to apologize; it seemed he intended to continue to make things difficult for her.

"No, I’m temporarily afraid to go to the company, fearing that manager will continue to harass me."

After all, the company was their territory; she going alone was equivalent to a lamb entering a tiger’s den.

So instead of going through resignation procedures, she just didn’t go to work.

"Don’t worry, they don’t have the time to make things difficult for you."

Hugo held a cup of tea; that night he had Lan Yancy take the pile of evidence to the police station. He believed not only that manager but even those two bosses would probably rot in jail.

Yet Eleanor didn’t know this; she thought Sean Cameron was still waiting for her to go back and apologize. So thinking about it made her a little anxious.

Though his comfort was there, she still felt somewhat nervous; after all, she was a small figure, and that one social event probably offended several people.

Seeing Sean’s fawning on those two men, their status must be high, right?

"Why not come to my company as my personal secretary?"

Hugo approached her, speaking very seriously.

Eleanor’s face flushed; those two words ’personal’ seemed somewhat ambiguous...

"I’ll keep looking."

She finally relented, realizing from this experience how hard it was to find a job with her qualifications.

If she were to encounter another person like Sean Cameron, she probably wouldn’t have such luck.

"Alright."

Seeing her finally show signs of relenting, Hugo’s lips curved into a smile.

In the following days, Eleanor applied to several companies, but they quickly rejected her,

In a week, she hadn’t received even one interview.

It didn’t make sense; the companies she applied to were small, with not high educational requirements. How come she didn’t get even one interview chance?

She dialed a phone number and honestly stated her situation, hoping for an interview.

At first, they didn’t know who she was. But upon hearing her name, Eleanor, they beat around the bush before directly saying they weren’t recruiting girls.

Eleanor felt a bit dejected, hanging up the phone and drinking some water in frustration.

Her mouth dry from speaking, yet the result was they still didn’t want to give her a chance.

Recently, she received so many rejection emails; could it be that heaven truly intended to ruin her?

Would she ultimately have to go to Grandeur Group? What kind of company was Grandeur Group; she wasn’t qualified to enter.

But if not Grandeur, where else could she go?

Eleanor’s brows furrowed; she didn’t have many other strengths. Influenced by her grandfather, she could draw, likely able to teach kids.

But such skills were of no use in the workplace.

When Hugo returned home, he saw her listlessly sitting on the sofa.

"What, no company wants you?"

Eleanor inexplicably felt like the other party was taking pleasure in her misfortune. She didn’t quite understand if this person truly wanted her to go to Grandeur Group?

She was decent with clerical tasks, but couldn’t do anything else; wasn’t he worried about the company losing money?

Hugo seemed to see through her thoughts, calmly sitting beside her, "I have so much money it’s countless; supporting a leisure position is perfectly fine."
