CHAPTER 187: CHAPTER 187: LIN FAMILY’S FRUIT GARDEN
Gu Nian responded well with her words, but she had other thoughts in her mind.
After arriving in town, she first sent Dahu to the restaurant and helped Erhu set up his stall. Only then did Gu Nian say, "Second Brother, you, Third Brother, and Little Brother stay here to sell jelly. Cuihua and I will take the ox cart to look at the fruit trees!"
"Didn’t Mom say to wait for us to go together?" Erhu asked.
"That would waste too much time," Gu Nian deliberately said. "Besides, the orchard isn’t far, I’ll just go take a look and come back. And with Cuihua being so skilled, there’s no need to worry about safety, right?"
Erhu thought for a moment, and indeed, she was right.
But he still wasn’t entirely at ease and reminded her, "All right, all right, since Dad and Mom aren’t here, I can’t control you. But be careful, if anything happens to you and you go back, Dad and Mom will definitely skin me alive."
Gu Nian pouted on purpose, "So, after all this talk, you’re not worried about my safety, but about yourself?"
"You heartless little thing, saying that makes Second Brother sad!" Erhu glared at her disapprovingly.
Gu Nian quickly said, "Okay, okay, I know Second Brother cares about me the most. I’m leaving now. If you finish selling first, wait for us here."
With that, Gu Nian pulled Cuihua onto the ox cart.
Fortunately, driving an ox cart didn’t require much skill. Though Cuihua wasn’t smart, she was particularly good at manual work, including driving the ox cart. She sat with Dahu and learned all the way here and now was doing it quite well.
After a journey of almost half an hour, they finally reached their destination.
Cuihua tied up the ox cart and said uneasily, "How about I stay here to watch the cart?"
She knew people said she was dumb, and she was self-aware of it too.
Since she didn’t understand the matter of inspecting fruit trees, she might as well keep an eye on the ox cart.
Gu Nian looked around. The orchard seemed quite large, and there weren’t many people nearby.
Just as she was thinking this, a young boy emerged from a thatched hut, "Hey, what are you here for?"
Gu Nian turned her head, showing a big smile, "Big Brother, we want to buy fruit trees. Do you sell fruit trees from your orchard?"
"We do sell, but how many do you want? If it’s just a few, we don’t sell," the young boy replied. Their orchard was big, not worth the effort for just one or two trees.
"We want to buy a lot of fruit trees, but I have to take a look first," Gu Nian said.
The boy looked at Gu Nian, then at Cuihua, and asked, "Who’s in charge between you two?"
It was always the little kid who was speaking, while the bigger robust-looking girl remained silent.
Gu Nian blinked and went over to grab Cuihua, "Naturally, my sister is in charge."
She made a stiff smile upfront, feeling that something was off with that statement.
"Then come with me," the boy said, leading the way toward the orchard, though he didn’t really pay them much mind.
After all, they were just two kids, probably out playing. If it were really a large purchase of fruit trees, no family would entrust such an important task to two girls!
Gu Nian appeared to trail behind Cuihua, but in reality, she was the one making all the decisions.
The owner of this orchard had the surname Lin and owned the only and largest orchard in Qingshan Town. However, there weren’t many types of fruit trees inside, mostly peach trees, pear trees, and dates. After taking a tour, Gu Nian had a plan in mind.
